Joe, yesterday was the Maryland State Fireman's Association's Annual Fireman's Parade in Ocean City.
Salisbury Fire Department was late to arrive with Tower 16. They went to through the parade and then to the awards ceremonies where they didn't get a single trophy for their unit. There is a category for Platform units (Tower 16) with 4 trophies given out, none to Salisbury.
The entire State of Maryland realizes that this is a big piece of junk.
I can't understand why you would consider this "a comment worthy of a post?" Did the fire department buy this equipment primarily to win prizes in parades?
ReplyDeleteTHAT IS GREAT! So hilarious! Maybe were should buy a bigger one! Or maybe get them to create an award for the "Most unnecessary apparatus"!
ReplyDeleteI`ll bet if you needed to get out of the upper floors of a burning building you would`n care if they brought a brass pole from a strip club. Why don`t you leave firefighters alone they do a great, most of the time thankless job and a lot of them for FREE.
ReplyDeleteI was there and this comment partially true. I was there. The parade started at 13:00 I saw Salisbury arrive around 10:30 with parsonburg lining up behind them.
ReplyDeleteThe awards ceremony only had 1 arieal catgory it was titled "best arieal device/elevated platform." With only 3 trophies given out. 1st place going to colonial beach va. 2nd going to Bay district vfd and 3rd going to trappe, md..
The group we were with at trophy ceremony were shocked that the truck from Salisbury didn't win an award.
Thanks,
Jamal Nutter, Singerly VFC
They get an award and we got the bill. These fire compnaies are out of control.
ReplyDeleteWhy did salisbury news not cover any of this event? Joe you need to have a staff to help you cover the area better.
ReplyDeleteEnough is enough. Tower 16 is here to stay. Yes it was diffently an over kill and a waste of money. But we got it and now live with it.Have you folks every tought that if this piece saves one life that it is well worth the money they spent. Lets move on and hope that there will be responsible spending in the future for the SFD...

You can hardly base the value of fire apparatus on the results of a parade. The rig was made by Pierce who produce the finest quality apparatus on the market today. It has received good reviews and comments from fire departments all over the region and as far away as California. I would personally stack the design and function of this rig up against any in the country. Your comment clearly shows the readers here that you know nothing about fire apparatus and the fire service.
ReplyDeleteThere was an Judge's Award for another Arieal Platfrom that was also given out.
ReplyDeleteThat fact of the matter is that Salisbury invested money in a paint scheme and other needless accesories so they could look cool, MSFA showed them that they just look stupid.
Does Salisbury FD think that the bad boyz of metro is a cool slogan? Do they think they all the other "cool" things written all over their truck is cool? No! IT'S NOT! It's unprofessional, had that tower not had all that pointless crap all over it may have won, but MSFA realized that SFD is a bunch of unprofessional clowns.
If this was a MARYLAND State Fireman's Associate event, then why did a Department out of Colonial Beach, VIRGINIA win an award? Shouldn't MD departments be winning these awards?
ReplyDeleteDid they put the back bumper back on it again? I saw it about a month ago and the bumper was off it. Maybe they can glue it on long enough for the parade!

ReplyDeleteIf you were half smart you would know it's not the bumber that is off but merely a cosmetic cover that goes over the bumber.
Get your story straight.
Out of curiosity how many office and administrative buildings in all of Wicomico County are over three stories where people are actaully occupying the floors past the 3rd.

Any more?

That same ladder truck they gave to Pittsville would have done the same job. No need to waste tax dollars on this worthless POS.
Thanks Jamal Nutter, how sad that a ladder truck from Colonial Beach VIRGINIA wins an award at the MARYLAND State Fireman's Convention and Salisbury Maryland doesn't win anything. Jim Ireton are you listening?
ReplyDeleteDid any of you know that apparatus less than 1 year old is not judged in this parade. This rule existed at one time and I believe it still does.
ReplyDeleteThis just shows that some speak before researching what the truth may be.
Good call 1:53... though the actual (not remotely sarcastic) question is: Why do we need a 100' ladder when Salisbury has no buildings over 5 stories tall?

I'm sorry but YOU are MISTAKEN! There was SEVERAL units present at yesterday's parade that are less than a year old and recieved awards. I encourage you to look at the list. SEVERAL UNITS! The rule used to be 8 months but due to a lack luster showing yesterday it was removed. So you stand corrected.
And I have to agree that the idiotic slogans plastered all over Tower 16 show nothing more a lack of professionalism and intelligance. They put that on there to impress people, yesterday they didn't impress anybody!
Yesterday the only thing Salisbury got was a cold shoulder because there was other ladders and trucks there that are actually needed, that actually get put in service, that actually see fire. They are idiots, pure and simple.
I don't understand all the fire department bashing that this blog seems to attract. There was a time following 9/11 that most of us were proud of our firefighters and EMS personnel.I agree that the"Bad Boyz of Metro" decal looks bullsh*tty and is 1st cousin to those decals showing a little boy peeing on a Ford or Chevy logo--the chief would gain some points with the more mature among us by having that removed. But...to continue to rundown everything the fire depts(including the Allen, Fruitland, Pittsville, Berlin, Parsonsburg, and Hebron fire companies)attempt to do is stupid and unfair.Let's hope that you never need them !!

I don't know what parade you were at but you are a liar.I was there at 8 am and they showed up at between 10 and 10:30 and when they did there were guys from all over waiting to get a peek at it.The firemen on the tower 16 were guys from the volunteer side of the department,I spoke to one of them, they were great guys they were telling me things I didn't understand but wow they seemed to know what he was talking about. Those guys set up and that thing on the end of the ladder, they went up in when they came back down there were as many as 12 guys who wanted to go up in it and they had too turn them away.I wanted to go up in it too but maybe another time. Then about 12:30 I went up to the parade line before the parade strted they might have been20 to 30 people in my area somw were firemen from all over,I can't remember them all and just regular people like me and when they came up in there truck oh my god all the people started cheering and saying great things.I had to cheer my self.So you need to be nice and tell the truth.Do you lie to your mother too.If I was you mother I would put you over my knee and give you a spanking.
Dotty Pickler I am from Ocean Pines. My thanks go out to those Salisbury firemen.

Ms. Pickler or who ever you are. Thanks for letting the citizens of Salisbury know that the guys you are praising violated insurance rules by allowing bystanders to "ride" in that thing on the end? Good thing know one got hurt. Those "guys" need to be reprimanded for there stupidity.
By the way why do I get the feeling there is no such person as a Dotty Pickler?
I am Miss Pickler to you young man.You have no respect. How dare you pick on me.I told the truth and no they woundn't let any of the firemen go up in the thing or me.I wanted too so I could get pictures of the board walk,I thought I could show my friends.I wish I knew your mother you would have some explaining to do young man.I would never thought you all couldn't get along.I am very mad and shame on you.
ReplyDeleteDotty Pickler
Nobody even as so much associated with Salisbury Fire Department at the parade, they were/are the laughing stock of the Maryland Fire Service.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure "Dotty Pickler" is a made up character from the SFD (how ironic Kelly Pickler has a video right above this post).
I have to agree with just about everyone else on this topic, Salisbury is FULL of idiots.
Joe, here is a question for you. I think many of us from Salisbury would LOVE answers to.
ReplyDeleteI hope Mayor Jim is reading.
Why on Earth were there non-Salisbury Fire Department members/employees up in the "bucket" almost 105 feet in the air while staging for the parade? I personally witnessed people in the bucket with cameras. I don't understand why.
105' feet in the air (10 stories), that is not a safe place for someone without the training.
And you can't tell me that they were SFD people because I saw their shirts, all of SFD was in uniform, who were these people? And why were they allowed to take pictures? This Tower 16 has become a very expensive camera tripod on behalf of the tawpayers of Salisbury.
anonymous 10:46, I can't answer that for you. However, Chief Hoppes is only a phone call away and I'm confident he'd appreciate knowing this was going on and I'd find it very hard to believe he participated in allowing it.
