Mayor Tilghman steps in her own Poo and wants Ireton to apologize

If you missed the press conference Jim Ireton gave Tuesday (you know, the one Barrie Tilghman claims Jim misrepresented facts about crime and disparaged city employees) it was posted in it's entirety on youtube. Check it out, it's worth it. Part 1 Part 2

Here are the specifics of the speech which, according to Queen Barrie, just ain't true:

"We stand here today in a city that was second in 2007 only to Baltimore City among municipalities in violent crime incidents. A city second only to Baltimore City among municipalities in forcible rape incidents. When looking at acts of violent crime per resident, Salisbury is actually ahead of Baltimore City. As of 3 weeks ago, we are still seeing more Part One crimes year-to-date than we have seen in the last two years in the same time period."

"What does that mean to us? Part One crimes, year-to-date for January and February: 2007, 495 and in 2008, 489 and now in 2009, 522."

That’s what he said. EVERY WORD IS TRUE.
Every. Single. Word.
And the per capita statistics he cited were true, too. No apologies needed.

Don't believe me? Check out the Salisbury Police Department's own webpage. And look at Part One Crime for Jan-Feb '09 compared to Jan-Feb '08 and Jan-Feb '07. And here's the data comparing cities in Maryland in 2007.

What gives Barrie, what gives? Can you really be that stupid not to even check your own police chief's website to see if Jim was even telling the truth? I guess you aren't as savvy on the interweb as those "vicious bloggers." What a joke. Did you think he was pulling numbers from thin air? Just because you might do that, it doesn't mean everyone does. Mare, it's time you are put out to pasture.

Note: Special thanks to Duck Around who I plagiarized half this from.

  1. Mr Comegys has been strangely silent this past week. Has he decided to distance himself from Barrie, or just to let her campaign for him? She apparently hasn't figured out that she is not a candidate & should have no part in the campaign. Does Gary have to report the campaign contribution of Barrie's 'press conference' as in-kind funding?

  2. The audacity of the woman is amazing. Geez, makes you wonder if she's checked her hormone supplement lately. If not, her docs need to check her other medication. This is simply outrageous.

  3. Even the media knows Barrie is full of poo. The lead in by the anchor woman on Fox 21 (WBOC) at 5 started it off with "Mayor Tilghman held a press conference today for the sole purpose of slamming a mayoral candidate." I don't know her name but she is to be commended for finally taking a stand against this evil woman and smear tactics.

Once again Barrie makes a fool of herself, in public. How proud her husband and children must be.

Does that surprise you? After 12 years she never figured out that she was only a guest at the city council meetings.

  5. Fine article, Two Sentz!

I can easily believe the Mayor didn't bother to check SPD's site before opening her big yap. She didn't need to. The purpose of this "news conference" was not to deal with anything like facts.

It was for one purpose: To slander Jim Ireton in the public eye and make it seem as if he did the city a grave injustice by telling the truth, just as your article says. How ironic is this? The person who's the biggest liar that ever breathed on the Eastern Shore and should spend the rest of her life apologizing to the city...THIS is the person demanding an apology from a decent, honest, sober man like Jim?

Mayor, you drunken sot, do all of us a favor by observing the following points until you're out to pasture: (1) Don't give any more public statements about anything because if your lips are moving, you're either lying or slandering someone,(2) If you won't follow point # 1, at least keep your tongue inside your mouth. You really showed one of our star bloggers (G.A.) your IQ at Monday's damage control -er I mean news - conference when you stuck your tongue out at him. He knows what a snake's tongue looks like. He doesn't need to see yours touching your nose, (3)Stop trying to rescue your stick man Comegy's campaign by trying to make the people's choice (Jim Ireton) look bad. It's a waste of time. PooGate marked the end of you and Comegys. Stop these desperate tactics; we the people aren't falling for them.

Oh, and one more thing. Leave Mrs. Campbell and Mrs. Cohen the HELL ALONE! They're fabulous public servants and they conduct themselves like the accomplished professionals they are. I watched them very calmly do their jobs Monday night. I watched you squirm like the worm you are then make a hasty exit. You see, Mayor, that's an example of their professionalism. A lesser person like me would have slapped you across your face for accusing me earlier that day of "leaking" documents that were never confidential to begin with.

With that said, Mayor get off the blogs and go back to work. On second thought, spend the day on the blogs. You've done enough damage to Salsibury.

  6. She is clinging to the fact that Total Calls or Service are down. That's her definition of lowering crime. And in that case, she's right - total Calls For Service are down. Fewer people are calling to get their cat out of trees, I guess.

But read what Jim said. He was very specific in his citing of facts - per capita rate of violent crime is up, we are in the top 5 in the state in actual incidents of violent crime for 2007, and as for Part One violent crime (you know, what me and you would call CRIME), the amount of those incidents are up for the first two months of THIS year. The facts are what the facts are.

Just because Jim told the truth about them and hurt her feelings doesn't mean she deserves an apology.

I'm still waiting for WBOC, WMDT and The Daily Times to ask one simple question: "Mayor, can you cite one example of a fact Mr. Ireton got wrong?"

  8. Somebody is bashing Mike Lewis in today's Grapevine for the right to his own opinion by endorsing a candidate. Maybe because people trust Mike Lewis to do the right thing, what he thinks his best for his community.

The mayor is using her office, every city and media resource to manipulate the election for her boy Bubba!

  10. In my opinion, if Mayor Tilghman has to debate whether crime has increased in Salisbury, she just doesn't get it. We desperately need a Mayor who is transparent on crucial issues that effect the citizens of this community. The current administration has failed us under her leadership.

  11. Mr Comegey's only chance to win is on the coat-tails of Shannie with greater voter turnout. Thats why he has attended church recently on the westside.

  13. I am going to send Jim Ireton a letter today encouraging him not to worry about bad City Employee moral.

I'll gladly include my resume to help him rid this God forsaken town of the extreme left wing radicals.

Remember the ole adage. . .where one door closes another one opens?

Good riddance to the Beast and all her Satanic angels.

  14. SBY Police Dept web site isn't accurate...says no homicide to date, well what about the man that was duct taped during the home invasion and died of suffocation? They don't even know their own statistics!!!

  15. After the events of the last few days (Ireton's speech Tilghman's weak counter attack) is there really any choice? How in the world could we want more of the same? It's Jim Ireton or the poster boy for special ed.

  17. She has no shame. Madame Mayor, I demand an apology from you to Jim for your steady harassment and for suggesting that he was lying when, as we can clearly see, he was telling the truth. Maybe I'll hold my own press conference! How about it folks, should we as citizens have a press conference to demand an apology from the mayor?

  18. I wonder if they are going to count the student who was mugged near campus yesterday! Oh wait, that didn't really happen. There is no crime in Salisbury.

  19. Now we have a REAL problem...Salisbury Police seems to not be properly reporting crime according to their website at:

    Salisbury Police Stats

Salisbury has had NO HOMOCIDES in 2009? I'm going to have to call bullsh!t on that one... Remember this one:

Breaking News, Man Shot In Salisbury

I assume that there might be a couple other ones, but I know that this incident was within the City Limits-others might be slightly outside of Salisbury's Jurisdiction. Regardless, this needs to be properly reported!! QUIT LYING TO THE PUBLIC!!!

  20. I guarantee that they did not report a guy who was caught breaking into cars in our neighborhood. I realize that isn't the crime of the century, but if they are not reporting that, how much more is being set aside? You cannot fix what you don't acknowledge.

  21. I had my car broken into back in May. I actually helped the State police catch they guy by getting his number when he tried to sell my stuff. It turned out to be three guys who were also wanted for at least 7 armed robberies. I waited and waited and never heard a word of it on the news. In court, after several postponements, all three finally walked.

  22. Anitra Pirkle comes to mind. Her body may have been found in the county but the crime began at Tastee Freeze, smack dab in the heart of the city. Her vehicle and the murderers were all located living within the city as well.

  23. 1054 Very good point I recall a storie about those people asaulting a boy on Snowhill rd that morning and the police didn't exactly perform a excellent job investigating or detaining those punks

  24. the two murders that happened in the county were both by city residents.
