A Letter To The Editor

Anyone who believes Gary Comegys would make a good mayor is either a fool or an imbecile. He is unresponsive to constituents; he acts like a dolt in council meetings and before the public and generally wags his tail when outgoing Mayor Barrie Parsons Tilghman smiles at him.

Whether the statistics about crime in Salisbury are inflated is beside the point. We all know it is dangerous here. Comegys wants to augment the "Crimestoppers." What a joke. That outmoded strategy failed years ago. The fact is Comegys has no real idea what to do.

The time has come to whisk away the old hacks and sweep in some new talent. Jim Ireton has youth, integrity and good judgment going for him. With the support of a new council comprising Cynthia Polk, Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen, there will be a chance to turn things around for good government, prudent decisions and a level-headed administration.

  1. Scott, I couldn't agree more which is why I will be campaigning strongly for all three this week. Comegys is a buffoon and more of the same. Jim, Debbie and Cynthia will offer a breath of fresh air to this city. Good Luck to all three.

  2. There's also a letter by the one and only Robin Cockey, who supports Comegys. But that's no surprise. Barrie was Cockey's campaign manager when he unsuccessfully challenged Paul Martin in the 1994 mayoral election. Then he was Barrie's manager in 1998. And he is T. J. Maloney's partner, too -- they both helped Barrie get rid of Police Chief Dykes, and got paid by the City for their services in doing that.

Many folks say that the rancor in Salisbury's elected government began with Cockey's term on the City Council.

His letter is yet another good reason to vote for Jim Ireton!

  6. Scott - Wouldn't anyone supporting Cynthia Polk also be classified as "a fool or an imbecile". This woman can't even manage her private life, let alone a city with a multimillion dollar budget. Actually, NONE of the people running will provide "prudent decisions and a level-headed administration". The truly capable people in Salisbury don't want to be associated with clown act they call the city government. As always, vote for the lesser of the evils. A "sad state of affairs."

  7. At lunch time today, I finally saw what looked like a moving van at the empty rental house on Truitt St. close to the Rt. 50 intersection. As I was waiting for the light to change, a man in a white long sleeved shirt pulled up the red Gary sign and set it back in the ground up straight so it was not leaning. Sorry Joe, no cell phone but would have a pic for you if I did. I think he was either the owner or the rental person. I had considered many times, calling the number on the rental sign and ask to rent but only if they removed the sign but did not want to move there in the first place...lol

  9. WBOC just led the 6:00 news with a brief mention that the state police are investigating charges of bribery in the Salisbury mayoral race! Someone needs to head over to Maloney's house with a new pair of underwear.

  10. 6:14 Maybe somebody should go take Richard Insley, Jr. a pair also. He had the nerve to practically beg me to vote for Bubba. His points are mute...I am a Jim Ireton supporter all the way.

  11. So I hear today this it was the official last day of work for Gary Comegys. He is offically retired from his state job. I guess he figures he has the election in the bag.

  12. Today was Gary's last day but not because he wanted it to be. He had an option, retire or be fired. How's that working for ya Bubba, finally got caught at it, didn't ya?
