IGA In Hebron Robbed Tonight
The Hebron IGA was robbed tonight and so was a patron who was leaving the store. There is a manhunt in progress as we speak! It's my understanding they closed off parts of Hebron and a Helicopter was brought in. More to come.....
Police Academy Graduation
We are told there are 18 police officers graduating from the Police Academy at Wor Wic Community College today, two of which will be working for Mike Phillips at the Fruitland Police Department. It was also noted that Barrie Tilghman is in attendance of this graduating class. Is she recruiting for SPD? Interesting, to say the least.
Congratulations to the graduating class.
Congratulations to the graduating class.
Tractor Trailer Drives Through Restaurant
This just in Folks. A Tractor Trailer just dove through and is stuck inside a Diner about 1 mile East of Cambridge. Two Police Officers are now on the scene and we're not sure if anyone was injured. Hopefully more reports and perhaps pictures come in later but my source tells me he saw the truck inside the restaurant.
Update: The truck ran through the side of Captain Don's Nautical Supply. This photo, taken with a cell phone was sent in by a loyal reader
Kwanzaa
Kwanzaa is a unique African American celebration with focus on the traditional African values of family, community responsibility, commerce, and self-improvement.
Kwanzaa is neither political nor religious and despite some misconceptions, is not a substitute for Christmas. It is simply a time of reaffirming African-American people, their ancestors and culture.
Kwanzaa, which means "first fruits of the harvest" in the African language Kiswahili, has gained tremendous acceptance.
Since its founding in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga, Kwanzaa has come to be observed by more than18 million people worldwide.
Did you know Dr. Maulana Karenga(Ronald McKinley Everett) was born on a chicken farm in Parsonsburg, Maryland, in 1941?

A Letter To The Editor
"Joe,
I am writing this blog out of utter frustration with the Delmar School District, and I am praying that you as a Delmar resident will be willing to post this blog. Let me start by saying that I come from a long line of Delmar graduates and the two times that I have either bought and or built a home I had only one requirement, and that was it had to be in Delmar School District. With this said, if the housing market was not such a disaster, I would without a doubt put my home that I have painstakingly remodeled on the market and move to another location.
I have recently had to withdraw my son from Delmar Middle-Senior High School and enroll him in another school, because my son has been labeled a “trouble maker” for refusing to let his peers let him be the target of their cruel jokes and childish gestures. For years my son sat back and let other children treat him like a doormat and would literally trample on his emotions and his self respect. I have gone on numerous field trips with him and have actually sat back and watched this happen and have many times called the children out on this. So now for the past year and a half my son decided that he is no longer going to take the garbage that is being dished out to him and is going to start standing up for himself, well this is the biggest mistake he could have ever made he now has anger management issues (per the administration) and I have been advised to seek counseling for him which I have to help him regain the self respect that he has lost over the years of being a target of bullying. I have to be fair and also state the I realize that when my son retaliates back in his own defense that yes this is keeping the “pot stirred” so to speak, and I realize that my child is not a complete angel and has done things that are inappropriate and yes I do realize that kids will be kids and boys will be boys, but what is the stopping point? Everyone has a point where you have just taken enough, which is the point that I myself have reached. My biggest frustration is that in Delmar if your child is not a gifted athlete and or a scholar student this is going to happen and do not expect to be able to turn to the administration for help in controlling their student population because they will very quickly inform you that they cannot be the social police. I have never asked for a “body guard” to walk around with my son every minute of the school day, but rather for the administration to be fair and see that typically when a student is acting out in matters like this and this behavior only happens in school that maybe there is a serious problem within the school system. For the parents that are dealing with this very same situation that have taught your kids to not initiate a fight but also on the other hand to not take daily abuse, I feel for you because the school district will use this against you and your child will be labeled “trouble” and will have very few people that will be able to turn to that will be unbiased to the situation. I feel better and for some reason just felt that this message needs to get out there so maybe other children will not be placed in the same situation as my family has.
Thanks for allowing me to vent,

More Gangs In Salisbury
"Joe,
Not sure if you are interested but I thought you might. When I am not going to school I work for a local engineering firm that is doing some contract for the
City of Salisbury. Today I was doing a site visit for a new pump station for the
sewer lines on Marvel Road when I saw the gang signs that I took pictures of and
attached to this email. The location of this "Gang Tag" is at the end of Marvel
Road is the same place where that dead woman was found a few months back. More
proof of Salisbury "non-existing" gang problem I don't know if you know anything
about MS-13 but they are an extremely ruthless street gang. When I was stationed
in Arizona in the US Army we had problems with these guys all the time. It is a
very scary thought if these guys have a influence on Salisbury Streets. If you
post anything about this please don't mention that I was working down in that
area I would not want my company to lose work for making any kind of waves. I
included a little history from Wikipedia. Keep up the good work and have a great
Christmas."
The Mara Salvatrucha gang originated in Los Angeles, set up in 1980s by
Salvadoran immigrants in the city's Pico-Union neighborhood.[4] There is some
dispute about the etymology of the name (see below: Etymology). The most common
belief is that Mara refers to the Spanish word for gang; it is suggested that
Salvatrucha refers to the Salvadoran guerrillas, the source of much of the
gang's early manpower.
Originally, the gang's main purpose was to protect Salvadoran immigrants from
other, more established gangs of Los Angeles, who were predominately comprised
of Mexicans and African-Americans.[5] For this reason, the gang initially
allowed only Salvadorans to join, but later allowed other Central Americans to
join as well.
Many Mara Salvatrucha gang members from the Los Angeles area have been deported
either because of their illegal status in the United States, or for committing
crimes as non-citizens, or both.[6] As a result of these deportations, members
of MS-13 have recruited more members in their home countries. The Los Angeles
Times contends that deportation policies have contributed to the size and
influence of the gang both in the United States and in Central America.[6]
Salvadoran authorities report that approximately 60% of prison inmates serving
prison terms for gang-related crimes there have either fled prosecution or have
been deported from the United States.[6]
Solve This Physics Problem
A Backhoe weighing 8 tons is on top of a flatbed trailer and heading east on Interstate 70 near Hays, Kansas ?
The extended shovel arm is made of hardened refined steel.
The approaching overpass is made of commercial-grade concrete, reinforced with 1 1/2 inch steel rebar spaced at 6 inch intervals in a criss-cross pattern layered at 1 foot vertical spacing.
Solve: When the shovel arm hits the overpass, how fast do you have to be going to slice the bridge in half??
(Assume no effect for headwind and no braking by the driver...)
Extra Credit: Solve for the time and distance required for the entire rig to come to a complete stop after hitting the overpass at the speed calculated above.?
Yes, you can neglect friction.

Wicomico Humane Society Yanks 1 Dead Dog & 13 Other Dogs From Owner
The Wicomico Humane Society and the Wicomico County Sheriff's Department took 13 Pit Bulls from a Terrell Strawberry Wednesday. Mr. Strawberry has quite the criminal history HERE. Just type in his name and you'll see what I'm talking about.
An anonymous caller contacted Linda and told her these animals were dying and they immediately dispatched an Animal Control Officer and Sheriff's Deputy to the location. I spoke with Linda Lugo of the Humane Society and she told me these animals were in very poor condition. Upon arrival they immediately found one Pit Bull dead. A necropsy report should be returned to the HS some time tomorrow afternoon with the cause of death. They then found 13 others in which you could see all of their ribs and hip bones. Some also had open wounds.
Out of the 13 removed, 4 of them were puppies, 1 three month old, 1 five month old and 2 six months old. Of the 13 dogs removed, most of them were females and a few of them were very aggressive.
Terrell Strawberry didn't cause any trouble when they decided to remove the animals and allegedly claimed he just couldn't feed them, yet once they arrived he pulled out a bag of dog food out of the car.
On an earlier Post the other day someone had made the claim that someone breeding terriers held them in very poor condition as well. I told Linda about this and she and I are trying to go back to the Post that was on but we want you to know the following. The Humane Society can't be everywhere. Please contact them if you see any of these kind of conditions and she assures me they will follow up on it immediately. To the person who wrote that comment, please cal Linda Lugo at 410-749-7603. If you cannot reach her, please contact me directly at 410-430-5349 and I will contact Linda on her cell phone and we'll make sure the situation is taken care of.
Linda wanted to let everyone know how much she appreciated the backup and support given by the Sheriff's Department. She closed our conversation with, "Joe, we have 13 dogs right now who are warm, safe and dry."
Now you can see just how fast the HS can go from no animals to a house full in no time. They fed these animals and believe it or not the dogs didn't even know what was being placed in front of them at the time. It took them a while before they even started eating.
I can't go into any more details for obvious reasons but we'll keep you posted on the progress of these animals.
Another story you won't see anywhere else today.

Who is your REAL best friend?
A Great Letter By A U.S. Ford Dealer
Editor:
As I watch the coverage of the fate of the U.S. auto industry, one alarming and frustrating fact hits me right between the eyes. The fate of our nation's economic survival is in the hands of some congressmen who are completely out of touch and act without knowledge of an industry that affects almost every person in our nation. The same lack of knowledge is shared with many journalists whom are irresponsible when influencing the opinion of millions of viewers.
Sen. Richard Shelby of Alabama has doomed the industry, calling it a dinosaur. No Mr. Shelby, you are the dinosaur, with ideas stuck in the '70s, '80s and '90s. You and the uninformed journalist and senators that hold onto myths that are not relevant in today's world.
When you say that the Big Three build vehicles nobody wants to buy, you must have overlooked that GM outsold Toyota by about 1.2 million vehicles in the U.S. and Ford outsold Honda by 850,000 and Nissan by 1.2 million in the U.S. GM was the world's No. 1 automaker beating Toyota by 3,000 units.
When you claim inferior quality comes from the Big Three, did you realize that Chevy makes the Malibu and Ford makes the Fusion that were both rated over the Camry and Accord by J.D. Power independent survey on initial quality? Did you bother to read the Consumer Report that rated Ford on par with good Japanese automakers.
Did you realize Big Three's gas guzzlers include the 33 mpg Malibu that beats the Accord. And for '09 Ford introduces the Hybrid Fusion whose 39 mpg is the best midsize, beating the Camry Hybrid. Ford's Focus beats the Corolla and Chevy's Cobalt beats the Civic.
When you ask how many times are we going to bail them out you must be referring to 1980. The only Big Three bailout was Chrysler, who paid back $1 billion, plus interest. GM and Ford have never received government aid.
When you criticize the Big Three for building so many pickups, surely you've noticed the attempts Toyota and Nissan have made spending billions to try to get a piece of that pie. Perhaps it bothers you that for 31 straight years Ford's F-Series has been the best selling vehicle. Ford and GM have dominated this market and when you see the new '09 F-150 you'll agree this won't change soon.
Did you realize that both GM and Ford offer more hybrid models than Nissan or Honda. Between 2005 and 2007, Ford alone has invested more than $22 billion in research and development of technologies such as Eco Boost, flex fuel, clean diesel, hybrids, plug in hybrids and hydrogen cars.
It's 2008 and the quality of the vehicles coming out of Detroit are once again the best in the world.
Perhaps Sen. Shelby isn't really that blind. Maybe he realizes the quality shift to American. Maybe it's the fact that his state of Alabama has given so much to land factories from Honda, Hyundai and Mercedes Benz that he is more concerned about their continued growth than he is about the people of our country. Sen. Shelby's disdain for "government subsidies" is very hypocritical. In the early '90s he was the driving force behind a $253 million incentive package to Mercedes. Plus, Alabama agreed to purchase 2,500 vehicles from Mercedes. While the bridge loan the Big Three is requesting will be paid back, Alabama 's $180,000-plus per job was pure incentive. Sen. Shelby, not only are you out of touch, you are a self-serving hypocrite, who is prepared to ruin our nation because of lack of knowledge and lack of due diligence in making your opinions and decisions.
After 9/11, the Detroit Three and Harley Davidson gave $40 million-plus emergency vehicles to the recovery efforts. What was given to the 9/11 relief effort by the Asian and European Auto Manufactures? $0 Nada. Zip!
We live in a world of free trade, world economy and we have not been able to produce products as cost efficiently. While the governments of other auto producing nations subsidize their automakers, our government may be ready to force its demise. While our automakers have paid union wages, benefits and legacy debt, our Asian competitors employ cheap labor. We are at an extreme disadvantage in production cost. Although many UAW concessions begin in 2010, many lawmakers think it's not enough.
Some point the blame to corporate management. I would like to speak of Ford Motor Co. The company has streamlined by reducing our workforce by 51,000 since 2005, closing 17 plants and cutting expenses. Product and future product is excellent and the company is focused on one Ford. This is a company poised for success. Ford product quality and corporate management have improved light years since the nightmare of Jacques Nasser. Thank you Alan Mulally and the best auto company management team in the business.
The financial collapse caused by the secondary mortgage fiasco and the greed of Wall Street has led to a $700 billion bailout of the industry that created the problem. AIG spent nearly $1 million on three company excursions to lavish resorts and hunting destinations. Paulson is saying no to $250 billion foreclosure relief and the whole thing is a mess. So when the Big Three ask for 4 percent of that of the $700 billion, $25 billion to save the country's largest industry, there is obviously oppositions. But does it make sense to reward the culprits of the problem with $700 billion unconditionally, and ignore the victims?
As a Ford dealer, I feel our portion of the $25 billion will never be touched and is not necessary. Ford currently has $29 billion of liquidity. However, the effect of a bankruptcy by GM will hurt the suppliers we all do business with. A Chapter 11 bankruptcy by any manufacture would cost retirees their health care and retirements. Chances are GM would recover from Chapter 11 with a better business plan with much less expense. So who foots the bill if GM or all three go Chapter 11? All that extra health care, unemployment, loss of tax base and some forgiven debt goes back to the taxpayer, us. With no chance of repayment, this would be much worse than a loan with the intent of repayment.
So while it is debatable whether a loan or Chapter 11 is better for the Big Three, a $25 billion loan is definitely better for the taxpayers and the economy of our country.
So I'll end where I began on the quality of the products of Detroit . Before you, Mr. or Ms. Journalist continue to misinform the American public and turn them against one of the great industries that helped build this nation, I must ask you one question. Before you, Mr. or Madam Congressman vote to end health care and retirement benefits for 1 million retirees, eliminate 2.5 million of our nation's jobs, lose the technology that will lead us in the future and create an economic disaster including hundreds of billions of tax dollars lost, I ask this question not in the rhetorical sense. I ask it in the sincere, literal way.
Can you tell me, have you driven a Ford lately?

Through A Rapist's Eyes
A group of rapists and date rapists in prison were interviewed on what they look for in a potential victim and here are some interesting facts:
1) The first thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle. They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun, braid or other hairstyle that can easily be grabbed . They are also likely to go after a woman with long hair . Women with short hair are not common targets.
2) The second thing men look for is clothing. They will look for women who's clothing is easy to remove20quickly. Many of them carry scissors around specifically to cut clothing.
3) They also look for women on their cell phone, searching through their purse, or doing other activities while walking because they are off-guard and can be easily overpowered.
4) Men are most likely to attack & rape in the early morning, between 5:00 a..m. and 8:30 a.m.
5) The number one place women are abducted from/attacked is grocery store parking lots.. The number two : office parking lots/garages. Number three : public restrooms.
6) The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a woman and quickly move her to another location where they don't have to worry about getting caught.
7) Only 2% said they carried weapons because rape carries a 3-5 year sentence but rape with a weapon is 15-20 years.
8) If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged because it only takes a minute or two for them to realize that going after you isn't worth it because it will be time-consuming.
9) These men said they would not pick on women who have umbrellas, or other similar objects that can be used from a distance, in their hands. Keys are NOT a deterrent because you have to get really close to the attacker to use them as a weapon. So, the idea is to convince these guys you're not worth it.
10) Several defense mechanisms he taught us are : If someone is following behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in an elevator or stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like what time is it?, or make general small talk : 'I can't believe it is so cold out here,' 'We're in for a bad winter.' Now you've seen their face and could identify them in a line-up; you lose appeal as a target.
11) If someone is coming toward you, hold out your hands in front of you and yell STOP! or STAY BACK! Most of the rapists this man talked to said they'd leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would not be afraid to fight back. Again, they are looking for an EASY target.
12) If you carry pepper spray (this instructor was a huge advocate of it and carries it with him wherever he goes), yell I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY and holding it out will be a deterrent.
13) If someone grabs you, you can't beat them with strength but you can by outsmarting them. If you are grabbed around the waist from behind, pinch the attacker either under the Arm (between the elbow and armpit) OR in the upper inner thigh VERY VERY HARD. One woman in a class this guy taught told him she used the underarm pinch on a guy who was trying to date rape her and was so upset she broke through the skin and tore out muscle strands - the guy needed stitches. Try pinching yourself in those places as hard as you can stand it - it hurts.
14) After the initial hit, always GO for the GROIN. I know from a particularly unfortunate experience that if you slap a guy's parts it is extremely painful. You might think that you'll anger the guy and make him want to hurt you more, but the thing these rapists told our instructor is that they want a woman who will not cause a lot of trouble. Start causing trouble and he's out of there..
15) When the guy puts his hands up to you, grab his first two fingers and bend them back as far as possible with as much pressure pushing down on them as possible. The instructor did it to me without using much pressure, and I ended up on my knees and both knuckles cracked audibly.
16) Of course the things we always hear still apply. Always be aware of your surroundings, take someone with you if you can and if you see any odd behavior, don't dismiss it, go with your instincts!!! You may feel a little silly at the time, but you'd feel much worse if the guy really was trouble.
1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do : The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do!
2. Learned this from a tourist guide in New Orleans : If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you....chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you, and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!
3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won't see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives.
4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc, and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc.) DON'T DO THIS! The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR, LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.
a. If someone is in the car with a gun to your head DO NOT DRIVE OFF, repeat : DO NOT DRIVE OFF! Instead gun the engine and speed into anything, wrecking the car. Your Air Bag will save you. If the person is in the back seat they will get the worst of it. As soon as the car crashes bail out and run. It is better than having them find your body in a remote location.
5 A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot or parking garage :
A.)Be aware : look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor, and in the back seat.
B.) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.
C.) Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out.
IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)
6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot. This is especially true at NIGHT!)
7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times. And even then, it most likely WILL NOTbe a vital organ. RUN, preferably in a zigzag pattern!
8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic : STOP! It may get you raped or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well-educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked 'for help' into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.
9. Another Safety Point : Someone just told me that her friend heard a crying baby on her porch the night before last, and she called the police because it was late and she thought it was weird. The police told her 'Whatever you do, DO NOT open the door.'
The lady then said that it sounded like the baby had crawled near a window, and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run over. The policeman said, 'We already have a unit on the way, whatever you do, DO NOT open the door.' He told her that they think a serial killer has a baby's cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby. He said they have not verified it, but have had several calls by women saying that they hear baby's cries outside their doors when they're home alone at night.
Please pass this on and DO NOT open the door for a crying baby --- This should be taken seriously because the Crying Baby theory was mentioned on America's Most Wanted this past Saturday when they profiled the serial killer in Louisiana I'd like you to forward this to all the women you know. It may save a life. A candle is not dimmed by lighting another candle.. I was going to send this to the ladies only, but guys, if you love your mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, etc., you may want to pass it onto them, as well.

Puppy Size
Danielle keeps repeating it over and over again. We've been back to this animal shelter at least five times. It has been weeks now since we started all of this," the mother told the volunteer. "What is it she keeps asking for?" the volunteer asked. "Puppy size!" replied the mother. "Well, we have plenty of puppies, if that's what she's looking for." "I know...we have seen most of them," the mom said in frustration...
Just then Danielle came walking into the office. "Well, did you find one?" asked her mom. "No, not this time," Danielle said with sadness in her voice. "Can we come back on the weekend?" The two women looked at each other, shook their heads and laughed. "You never know when we will get more dogs. Unfortunately, there's always a supply," the volunteer said. Danielle took her mother by the hand and headed to the door. "Don't worry, I'll find one this weekend," she said.
Over the next few days both mom and dad had long conversations with her. They both felt she was being too particular. "It's this weekend or we're not looking any more," Dad finally said in frustration. "We don't want to hear anything more about puppy size either," Mom added.
Sure enough, they were the first ones in the shelter on Saturday morning. By now Danielle knew her way around, so she ran right for the section that housed the smaller dogs. Tired of the routine, mom sat in the small waiting room at the end of the first row of cages. There was an observation window so you could see the animals during times when visitors weren't permitted. Danielle walked slowly from cage to cage, kneeling periodically to take a closer look. One by one the dogs were
brought out and she held each one. One by one she said, "Sorry, you're not the one."
It was the last cage on this last day in search of the perfect pup. The volunteer opened the cage door and the child carefully picked up the dog and held it closely. This time she took a little longer. "Mom, that's it! I found the right puppy! He's the one! I know it!" she screamed with joy. "It's the puppy size!"
"But it's the same size as all the other puppies you held over the last few weeks," Mom said. "No not size ---- the sighs. When I held him in my arms, he sighed," she said. "Don't you remember? When I asked you one day what love is, you told me love depends on the sighs of your heart. The more you love, the bigger the sigh!" The two women looked at each other for a moment. Mom didn't know whether to laugh or cry. As she stooped down to hug the child, she did a little of both.
"Mom, every time you hold me, I sigh. When you and Daddy come home from work and hug each other, you both sigh. I knew I would find the right puppy if it sighed when I held it in my arms," she said. Then holding the puppy up close to her face she said, "Mom, he loves me. I heard the sighs of his heart!"

Gas Prices In Ocean City
"Joe,
I took the family down to Ocean City last night to the Winterfest Of Lights. I couldn't believe the difference in gas prices in Ocean City vs the Salisbury area. The few stations that I saw on Coastal Highway were $1.46 along with the Wine Rack in West OC. And then the Shell station right down the road from the Wine Rack was $1.59. (A big difference for about a mile away). If they can do it in Ocean City, then they should be able to do it in Salisbury. So, for all of you that may get to OC, that is the place to get gas."

A Blast From The Past
Last weekend I saw something at Larry's Pistol &Pawn Shop that sparked my interest. The occasion was our 15th anniversary and I was looking for a little something extra for my wife Julie. What I came across was a 100,000-volt, pocket/purse-sized taser. The effects of the taser were supposed to be short lived, with no long -term adverse affect on your assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety....??
WAY TOO COOL!
Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home. I loaded two AAA batteries in the darn thing and pushed the button. Nothing!
I was disappointed. I learned, however, that if I pushed the button AND pressed it against a metal surface at the same time; I'd get the blue arc of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs.
AWESOME!!! Unfortunately, I have yet to explain to Julie what that burn spot is on the face of her microwave. Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it couldn't be all that bad with only two triple-A batteries, right?
There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on intently (trusting little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I really n eeded to try this thing out on a flesh & blood moving target.
I must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a second) and thought better of it. She is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going to give this thing to my wife to protect herself against a mugger, I did want some assurance that it would work as advertised. Am I wrong?
So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank top with my reading glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, directions in one hand, and taser in another.
The directions said that a one-second burst would shock and disorient your assailant; a two-second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a major loss of bodily control; a three-second burst would purportedly make your assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of water Any burst longer than three seconds would be wasting the batteries.
All the while I'm looking at this little device measuring about 5 inches long, less than 3/4 inch in circumference; pretty cute really and loaded with two itsy, bitsy triple-A batteries) thinking to myself, 'no possible way!'
What happened next is almost beyond description, but I'll do my best...? I'm sitting there alone, Gracie looking on with her head cocked to one side as to say, 'don't do it dip shhit,' reasoning that a one second burst from such a tiny little ole thing couldn't hurt all that bad. I decided to give myself a one second burst just for heck of it. I touched the prongs to my naked thigh, pushed the button, and . . . HOLY MOTHER OF GOD WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION . WHAT THE HELL!!!
I'm pretty sure Jessie Ventura ran in through the side door, picked me up in the recliner, then body slammed us both on the carpet, over an d over and over again. I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position with tears in my eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testicles nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest position, and tingling in my legs?
The cat was making meowing sounds I had never heard before, clinging to a picture frame hanging above the fireplace, obviously in an attempt to avoid getting slammed by my body flopping all over the living room.
Note: If you ever feel compelled to 'mug' yourself with a taser, one note of caution: there is no such thing as a one second burst when you zap yourself! You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from your hand by a violent thrashing about on the floor. A three second burst would be considered conservative?
*(^%#@, THAT HURT LIKE HELL!!!
A minute or so later (I can't be sure, as time was a relative thing at that point), I collected my wits (what little I had left), sat up and surveyed the landscape. My bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace. The recliner was upside down and about 8 feet or so from where it originally was. My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching. My face felt like it had been shot up with
Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88 lbs. I had no control over the drooling.
Apparently I shhit myself, but was too numb to know for sure and my sense of smell was gone. I saw a faint smoke cloud above my head which I believe came from my hair. I'm still looking for my nuts and I'm offering a significant reward for their safe return!!
P. S. My wife loved the gift, and now regularly threatens me with it!

"Joe,
I hope this Christmas season is finding you well and I know you have the true Spirit of the Season by your service with Salvation Army alone. You are doing such a great job with that and I just want to say thanks.
I wanted to send you a quick e-mail about my Campaign Website at http://www.boda4salisbury.com/ . I have had one up for a while, I have just redone it and made it a little cleaner. Let me know what you think and I wish you the best this Christmas.
By the way George Taylor had a great idea today - Broadcast the work sessions live.... that would be great idea. I wonder how much time would be spent arguing about going into closed session.
Thanks.

An Interesting Coment From The Bay Bridge Accident Post
"It is not for gain that the girl be held accountable for killing another. You say we have been lucky because we have not killed anyone while driving tired? Is that what I face when I drive? It is a prevledge to drive. And a preson assumes a responsibility to all when they accept this honor. I also do not feel we need to lose another life because of a careless act that kills someone.Yet a fine and a slap on the wrist is not enough deterent to end this type of crime.
The laws should fit the crime.Lets not down play what this girl has done.Perhaps she should be liable for a higher degree of the crime she committed since she was not so "lucky".Remember if she ,or anyone else thought for a moment they would be loked up for this crime You can bet your behinds they would be more attentive while driving.I do not believe we should be driving relying on "luck" to get us to our destination. The problem has been touched upon here. People are not willing to provide the attention that is needed to operate a motor vehicle. And because some lack azz has some how got them selves in to a position of inforcement,or lack there of, our laws do not cover this sever of a infraction.
Times have changed and I know that our laws must change to be of any use in protecting us all, even those of you who live your lives on "luck".You are the ones who will end up in this very situration. And I think deep down you realize this. There needs to be more of a deterent for stopping people from killing others.
If there was , people would pay more attention to what they are doing or suffer the consequences. What does it matter if she was drinking or not! If people want to put them selves in anothers shoes then why not the guy who was killed. Why coddle the killer. Is it because you have a greater chance in killing someone your self, instead of being killed? Why make a simple issue so confused with a bunch of would of ,could of ,instead take it for face value. That way a person does not have to wonder what the penalty is for killing another human life is. I think the fine for shoplifting is much higher than killing a person in a neglectful car crash. And this makes sense how ? OH ! I get it now! The world is over populated so lets not hold any one accountable for killing people. It just makes more room for us all.
Anyone who argues against this driver from being accountable for this death is just not thinking clearly.(probably been drinking)I just hope they are so nonchalant if the same happens to one of their own. I betcha they are the same people who spout off about killing anyone who kills one of their own huh? Is it self centerness that makes a person think this way?
We do need change. And I'm not talking about the tax rate here. If It is against the law for me to protect myself today then there better be stronger deterents to help those who ARE suppose to protect me.
A restitution of $ 1.00 a week for the rest of the killers life paid to those directly connected to the one killed may be a idea? At lest that way one time every week the killer will have to conciously remember what they have done. And show remorse. Not just a "you were wrong , see you next time". Perhaps they should make amends for the rest of their life? After all they took one. Give one back.
I personally have taking on a quest to have a law passed here that is enacted in most other states. It is a very up hill climb because of the stupid thinking like those who have commentted negatively about this tragity. But as my life has been ended as I knew it, I have nothing but time. And welcome any support to, at the very least, help to get our laws modernized.
I have been where the wife of the man who was killed is, AND I hope you are strong enough to allow time to heal. As I , you will never forget but know the path does continue for us.It just takes us smaller steps to continue on. There is a plan for us. It just is being hidden behind the greif we feel for our losses. Please take advantage of a local group of people who have been in the same situration. It will help. And as for those heartless people that read this this far....Be extra careful on the roads because this very occurence may be heading your way.Funny how that happens."
