Fatal Crash on Jersey Road

There was a fatal crash on Jersey Road in Wicomico County. Details to follow.

A 32 year old Delmar man was driving down Jersey Road taking some friends home when he failed to negotiate a curve and lost control of his Ford F-150 Pickup. The driver died immediately and the three passengers were able to climb out of the truck.

Wayne Barall was one of the first to arrive on the scene and checked for a pulse and the driver had no pulse. Sadly, this was a young man and a Father of two or three children. He was also a life long close friend of Wayne's as they went to School together in Delmar. This man worked for the Town of Delmar.

We're sorry for your loss and it should be known, the driver was wearing his seat belt and was actually driving a friend home who had a few drinks. "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished."

"Just thought I would forward to you my absolute frustration with this f'in rag. OK, today is Father's Day and it is 12:19 pm and no Sunday paper! I called earlier and they said they would get it right out to me. Well I think I'd be better waiting for the second coming because it still ain't here. On top of that, my paper is never here in the morning by the time I leave for work which is always around 6:30 am. Long story short, I emailed them and canceled by subscription today.

On a hysterical note, to do all this required me to set up an account to access my account. Once that was done you could not navigate because the majority of the tabs were not functioning. I finally stumbled across their customer service number on this manage account page and it sent me to 931-552-1808 - The Leaf Chronicle. The poor lady on the other line had no idea what I was talking about but at least she answered the phone. Other calls to extension 221 - circulation manager - were rerouted right back to the main menu.

Armed Forces Night Capped Off With a 5-1 Win!

The Birds gave the Veterans and fans something to cheer about with a big win over the BlueClaws last night. Wally Crancer got things going with a solo shot in the 4th, his 2nd in the series, to tie it up. Kieron Pope drove in the game winning run with a 2 RBI double in the same inning. The Birds are now 38 and 30, but will not be able to catch up to the Lake County Captains who are 41-28 and will take the 2nd half crown. The Birds are looking to secure 2nd place with a win as if the Captains win the 2nd half again, the teams with the next best record goes to the playoffs.

Cathcart vs Shields

Shanie Shields, a sitting council member feels otherwise. It is Shanie's opinion the city has enough police officers and will not support the hiring of additional officers. Her reasoning is due to the large number of Wicomico County Sheriff Deputies patrolling and assisting in city limits. Deputies in the city

Which is it, we have enough police due to the large presence of WCSO deputies or the WCSO owes the city 6 officers? You can't have their assistance plus 6 officers, it just doesn't work that way, Lynn.

Missing Person

The above photo is one Jeff Gunderson who has been reported missing to the State Police.

He left his truck at home. He also didn't take his cell phone, cigarettes or his medications and inhalers with him.

Jeff has not been seen since Friday, June 6, 08.

My heart is breaking as I see this city failing and falling apart. It truly is becoming so much like Camden, N.J.. My wife wants to move and so do I. Last year a man was beat on the head with a baseball bat, robbed and his car stolen on our quiet street. We called 911 for the police and ambulance. The ambulance shown up in approx. 10 minutes and the police shown up 20 minutes after the call. WOW and the fu##*&^ ASSHOLES on city council say crime is managable. Our neighborhood is/was truly a retreat. Our neighbors have stepped up their alertness but we do need more police patrols. I see a cop maybee once every two months. I absolutly HATE Barrie, TheFat Fu##-Gary and the dimwit Shannie. How do these people get in office? Stick your heads up your a$$ and let the city go to hell. I know the answer can't be solved by "government" alone, but dammit get somebody in there who will be a realist and motivater. Signed - Heartbroken"

ADVISE TEENS TO STAY FROM OC

Not only are the travelers getting screwed by the oil companies for traveling to-and-from Ocean City, but also,of particular interest, is the staggering number of DUI arrest in OC as opposed to the other local localities.

For a six day period from June 2 - June 8 -(6 days)- there were 24 DUI charged in Ocean City alone. In comparison, State Police Barrack - (Wicomico Co.), reported 8, State Police Barrack - (Worcester Co.), reported 6.

So my advise to people who are considering traveling to an OC tavern is . . . better stay at home.

I know Salisbury has a limit as to how many pets can be in your possession.

My family likes to watch Animal Planet. We have 2 pugs, 2 boxers and an english bulldog. We also put out finch food year-round for a family of about 20 finches outside. We also have a saltwater fish tank. Thankfully, we live in the country and do not have to worry with nosey neighbors and straying animals. I feel that as long as my family and pets are well taken care of, I don't have too many pets.

My question of the day is "How many pets is too many pets?"

Forest fires near Elizabeth City, NC have consumed more than 160 kilometers and is only 40% contained.

That is why we are seeing so much smoke around here in Wicomico, Somerset, and Worcester Counties. The fires started on Monday and the smoke you see and smell in the air is from North Carolina.

Imagine if it were a nuclear attack. . . the radio active fallout would be enormous.

Elsewhere, in eastern North Carolina, areas north of a fire around the Pocosin Lakes Wildlife Refuge were under the most severe air pollution warning the state has ever issued. The warning includes the cities of Edenton and Elizabeth City.

The fire has charred more than 62 square miles and was only 40 percent contained. Fire spokesman Dean McAlister said firefighters expect it will continue to smolder until the area gets enough rain to soak the peat soil.

A wildfire in the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, which straddles Virginia and North Carolina, prompted a smoke advisory Saturday for much of the Norfolk, Va., area.

The fire, which started Monday, has burned almost 2.25 square miles and wiped out parts of a project to restore Atlantic white cedar trees.

Rev. Wright epitomizes the thoughts and actions that have prevented and continue to prevent black America from moving ahead and achieving their potential as a people. He suggests that this United States of America made up of sons and daughters of immigrants (I'm talking of the millions of 1st, 2nd, 3rd generation immigrants in this country) of every race, creed, color and religion, each and everyone of them who had nothing to do with slavery, somehow owe something to a group of people who have never been slaves?

It's amazing. It seems everyone is to blame for the shambles black society is in with its violence, drugs, high school drop out rates, misogyny, and a host of other real and virulent problems, except for the very people who engage in such behavior.

Enough. As a society, culture or people, they should look within themselves and fix their problems. When did this man become the spokesman for the black church? And of course his church is different, but that doesn't mean his message and philosophy is acceptable, or productive or non-offensive or not-racist or indicative or our greater cultural behaviors, values and norms as Americans.

And yes, the link between this man and Obama really does matter. At a very minimum, it provides insight into the political and philosophical strain that Obama adheres to.

Does Mike Lewis Owe The City of Salisbury?

Lynn Cathcart has always condemned people for criticizing but not offering any solutions. At a recent city council budget hearing Lynn took her turn at the podium criticizing everyone and anyone that does not choose to be taxed to death while living with substandard infrastructure, in America's 10th most dangerous city. Once she finished screeching like an owl, criticizing the citizenry, she could not walk away like the hipocrite she has become and not offer any solutions. In her infinite wisdom, Lynn Cathcart has single handedly solved the problem of the Salisbury Police Department being understaffed. She has decided, Mike Lewis.mp3 owes the city.

It's possible, in his spare time (yeah right) Mike will give your request some consideration. In the mean time, it wouldn't be wise to hold your breath while you wait for his response, the city can't afford to send a paramedic out to help you.

Child Attacked By Fox In Salisbury?

I'm being told there was a fox attack on Thursday afternoon at the church school camp east of Salisbury.

I'm told he was taken to PRMC and six shots were given to start the rabies treatment.

I do not have a confirmation on this and I truly have been trying to gain access to such information but no one is talking? I even have the child's name but of course I'm not going to produce that.

Can someone else out there confirm this to be true? Do NOT put up a name as I will not allow that to be posted. Thanks!

Celebrate Fathers Day with The Shorebirds

Take dad out to the ball game today with an afternoon with The Shorebirds. Game time starts at 2:05 and the buffet starts at 1:30. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Care First Shorebirds Hat. Following the game dads and their kids can play catch in the outfield thanks to Spike TV.

Also there will be a buffet ticket deal available with burgers, hot dogs, chips, popcorn, peanuts, and soda. Accompanying the ticket will be a free Shorebirds ball for each person, a picture of your family (1 per family), and of course the opportunity to play catch on the field.
