The 2008 Cypress Festival has been running smooth, good crowds, friendly atmosphere with everyone having fun. Today at Noon I was fortunate to be able to watch the Flag Ceremony featuring lots of our youth. Cub Scout Pack 143 led the way along with several Boy Scouts and the Pocomoke High School ROTC contingent.
It's always nice to hear the stories about our American Flag, the reasons for each star & stripe then the wars which have been fought to preserve our freedoms. We salute those who fight for our right to free speech and being able to "Agree to Disagree" is one of the things that makes America great. Heck I even had a nice chat with Russ Blake after he sold me a very refreshing glass of Lemonade from the Rotary Club booth.
Tonight is the 'Grand Finale' of the Festival to which will be open until 11:00 PM. We are waiting on the winners of the Duck Derby so stay tuned if you have tickets.
6:00-9:00pm Bingo in the Pavilion
Stephanie (Wymzie) & I hosted Bingo Thursday night and it was a lot of fun. The Bingo parlor is in the old fireplace shelter and the buy in is $1 per card with a 50% - 50% payout. The pots we paid were $3 to a whopping $12 & just about everybody won because the crowds are not so big its overwhelming.

A local band playing contemporary & Southern Rock, Motown and Soul
There are a lot of vendors selling everything from jewelry to airbrush & henna tattoos
8:00pm Raffle drawing @ hospitality table

DOWN GOES FRAZIER, DOWN GOES FRAZIER!
Smokin Joe Frazier is in Delmar, Maryland right now till 4:00 PM today! The following photos clearly show this guy is still going strong and I have to tell you first hand, he's a real gentleman! I met Joe around 11:00 AM and got to spend an hour or so with him while we had a few laughs and got to hear some stories from the past. More importantly though were the hundreds of people waiting in line to meet this icon. The stories I heard were how much money one guy lost in High School betting on the fight to the memories of what people were doing at the time when he beat Mohamed Ali, it went on and on. He smiled at everyone and looked each person in the eye and shook hands with them all.
If you have the time, go visit the new Delmar Auto Mall across from the Saturn Dealership in Delmar, Maryland on Rt. 13 North. Believe me, drop everything you're doing and get up there right now. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I'll have more on this story later.
OH, don't forget to bring a boxing glove or something for him to sign.
Salisbury City Council on Police Staffing
During the final budget deliberations there was a lot of discussion about staffing the Salisbury Police Department with additional officers. Listen as those elected to public office deliberate the funding of public safety. If this doesn't make you scratch your head and ask the HOW and WHY, these folks were ever elected/re-elected to office, you must be dead.
Shanie is now an LEO professional, listen as she tells them how they should be doing their job . Only in Barrieland is Part 1 crime down. According to Shanie the recent murders were unfortunate but it's not like the shootings were random or anything. After all, SPD is fully staffed. Is this her brain on chocolates or what? Someone call a paramedic, I think she's overdosed. Oops, Sorry Shanie, no paramedic for you, the city can't afford them either.
Gary Comegys doesn't think more officers on the street are needed. Chief Webster, have you ever answered Bubba's question, where did all that money go? If they were doing a line item budget he wouldn't have to ask. The one thing Gary didn't lie about was growth paying for growth. Every developer coming down the pike has been paid for the growth of our city.
Let us not forget Lyin Louise, the princess of concensus. Louise wouldn't cast a vote before Gary if her life depended on it. If she did, she'd screw up, just like Shanie. Low and behold, Lyin Louise took a position . It only takes seconds to form a decision, after all, shes got a date with the Geritol for lunch bunch. Listen closely Weezie, as one who knows tells you why YOU and your council majority raised taxes last year.
Realizing their resources are limited, by the mayor and her administration, Debbie and Terry did what most thinking people would do. They took the issue of public safety by the horns, Terry focusing on Fire and Debbie focusing on Police. Having gathered what little information permitted them, from the departments spending time actually speaking with these public servants (who are forbidden to talk to them), they shared their findings and both took a stand for what they know is necessary and right.
Terry Cohen, who has a mind like a steel trap reminded the council of Chief Websters plan . Terry, then took her position and stood her ground with Lyin Louise. Terry, I hope you realize, you too will be receiving a letter of reprimand.
Of course, the only solutions offered were that of Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen, their solutions fell on the deaf ears of the council majority and their pre-determined...um shall we call it concensus? It's business as usual in the land of Barrie. Debbie Campbell offered her position . Then she had the audacity to ask, what is in my opinion, the most important question of all. What do the taxpayers get ? Shame on Debbie for taking the citizenry into consideration during any deliberations, especially something as important as the annual budget.
I have the deepest gratitude for these two ladies that should have Timex stamped on their foreheads. They take a lickin' and keep on tickin'. Hold their feet to the fire, ladies. Your hard work and efforts do not go unnoticed.

Question of the Day, Sat 6/14
Kids are out of school for the summer. My kids are 7 and 9, so they aren't too smart for me--yet.
Have you ever suspected or found out that your child had changed a grade on his/her report card to avoid punishment? As a student, did you ever change your grades on your report card to avoid punishment?

Shorebirds Fun!
Cow Ripken Jr. takes out a member of the BlueClaws. The Zooperstars are named after an animal and a famous sports figure. Clammy Sosa ate a grounds crewman and then regurgitated him clothes first and then him in his underwear. Ken Giraffey Jr. was also in attendance with Donovan McCrab, Harry Canary, and others. The fans thoroughly enjoyed their antics as they traversed Perdue Stadium on and off the field. Zooperstars travel the Country providing comedic entertainment to all professional and collegiate sports as well as private parties. http://www.zooperstars.com/

Stolen Gas
Have you been a Victim of someone stealing gas from one of your vehicles?
I have been receiving calls from Citizens telling me their stories and there's been nothing mentioned about it in the Press.
One friend is on Snow Hill Road and another on Spring Ave, both fell victim of stolen gas from their vehicles. One was a full tank of gas from a van, 35 gallons!
So the question is, how many other people has this happened to and nothing has been said? I remember back in the 1970's this was a huge problem nation wide. Are we back to the days where there's a line to purchase locking gas caps?
If I were you, do it now. Get those locking gas caps and go to the Dealer and get the one made specifically for your vehicle. Fortunately most everything we have already came with a locking door and or gas cap.
We want to know. Has it happened to you, a friend, a relative?
