The 2008 Cypress Festival has been running smooth, good crowds, friendly atmosphere with everyone having fun. Today at Noon I was fortunate to be able to watch the Flag Ceremony featuring lots of our youth. Cub Scout Pack 143 led the way along with several Boy Scouts and the Pocomoke High School ROTC contingent.
It's always nice to hear the stories about our American Flag, the reasons for each star & stripe then the wars which have been fought to preserve our freedoms. We salute those who fight for our right to free speech and being able to "Agree to Disagree" is one of the things that makes America great. Heck I even had a nice chat with Russ Blake after he sold me a very refreshing glass of Lemonade from the Rotary Club booth.
Tonight is the 'Grand Finale' of the Festival to which will be open until 11:00 PM. We are waiting on the winners of the Duck Derby so stay tuned if you have tickets.
6:00-9:00pm Bingo in the Pavilion
Stephanie (Wymzie) & I hosted Bingo Thursday night and it was a lot of fun. The Bingo parlor is in the old fireplace shelter and the buy in is $1 per card with a 50% - 50% payout. The pots we paid were $3 to a whopping $12 & just about everybody won because the crowds are not so big its overwhelming.
7:00pm Divided Highway Band on stage
A local band playing contemporary & Southern Rock, Motown and Soul
There are a lot of vendors selling everything from jewelry to airbrush & henna tattoos
8:00pm Raffle drawing @ hospitality table
10:00pm Fireworks Display by Fireworks Productions, Inc.
11:00pm Festival Closes
C'mon down to the River tonight and join us in Pocomoke for food, music, family fun and the grand finale Fireworks Show.
how the hell did they make those wooden laminate beams holding the roof of the pavilion up, unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteThe band sounded good doing cover tunes the crowd enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteFirework show was great from what I could see staning in a long-line to buy funnel cakes before the festival ended.
Kudos to Roy, George, Mike & all the people who worked behind the scenes.
I was there, but the Fireworks started at 9:30pm prompt and not 10pm.
ReplyDeleteWe had a great time at the "street fair" in Berlin yesterday. What a neat event and great place.
ReplyDeleteI noticed those laminated beams as well and was really impressed with the curves in them and how them maintain their strength.
ReplyDeleteI started going to the Cypress Festival when I was a kid and now I am taking my kids. Kudo's to Pocomoke City's Chamber of Commerce.
