Burns on Ehrlich
This is not an opinion, although the headline can sound that way. I will be on Governor Ehrlich’s radio program tomorrow morning at 10 on WBAL (1090AM). You can hear it online at wbal.com.
The Joke Of The Year
A Somalian arrives in Minneapolis as a new immigrant to the United States. He stops the first person he sees walking down the street and says, "Thank you Mr. American for letting me in this country , giving me housing, food stamps, free medical care, and free education!" The passerby says, "You are mistaken, I am Mexican."
The man goes on and encounters another passerby. " Thank you for having such a beautiful country here in America !" The person says, "I not American, I Vietnamese.
"The new arrival walks further, and the next person he sees he stops, shakes his hand and says, "Thank you for the wonderful America !" That person puts up his hand and says, "I am from Middle East , I am not American!"
He finally sees a nice lady and asks, "Are you an American?" She says , "No, I am from Africa !" Puzzled, he asks her, "Where are all the Americans?" The African lady checks her watch and says. .."Probably at work!!!!!!!

Perhaps they should rename the "Sore Loser Law" to the "Wayne Gilchrest Law."
Fact: Nearly 7 in 10 Republican voters voted AGAINST Wayne Gilchrest.
Fact: Weather conditions were worse on the Western Shore where snow and ice hit early. Had weather conditions been equal on both sides of the bridge, Harris would have won by an even bigger margin.
Fact: Wayne Gilchrest is a dirty campaigner who hides behind friendly tv and print media. Gilchrest put Rob Banks up to run to try and dilute anti-Wayne votes. Gilchrest talked EJ Pipkin into running when it was clear that he would lose a head-to-head match-up with Harris. Gilchrest was repsonsible for thousands of election eve robo-calls going out to pro-life voters claiming that Harris was pro-choice. In past campaigns, Gilchrest and his chief of staff have orchestrated dirty campaigns including spreading rumors that a state senator was having an affair, a female opponent was gay, and an attorney opponent got a child rapist off. He also falsely claimed an endorsement by Ronald Reagan in the 1990 campaign. Poor Wayne--he can't take a little negative campaigning.
Fact: Wayne Gilchrest called the Chairman of the Bd. of Elections the day after his primary defeat to inquire about running as an independent. There was no groundswell of voters asking him to run.

Gilchrest Slams Rush, Rush Slams Gilchrest
Yesterday on the Rush Limbaugh Radio Show. . . 92.7FM WGMD in Rehoboth, DE., Rush said that Wayne Gilchrest blamed the conservative talk show radio host, Rush, for partially contributing to his defeat in his District.
But Rush was quick to point out that Gilchrest himself did, in fact, do his ownself in when he voted to block the troop surge and that the folks in his District didn't see it the same way as their elected Representative.

WICOMICO COUNTY & CITY OF SALISBURY COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE – (J. Lenox)
Salisbury University Spring Sports In Action This Week.
Salisbury Universities Men’s Lacrosse team is set to open its regular season against Virginia Wesleyan at 12pm at Seagull Stadium tomorrow. The Gulls are the defending undefeated D-III National Champions after reclaiming the title with a 15-9 win over SUNY Cortland at M&T Bank Stadium. Currently the Seagulls are the number one ranked team in the country in the annual preseason coaches’ poll. The Seagulls have had the tradition of up-starting the season with overpowering play and large goal differentials in the final tally which sets the tone for the whole season. Twelve returning seniors exhibit the stature of a experienced team and a program that gets athletes through all four years of eligibility.
On the women’s side, the Lady Gulls are ranked third in the country. Hood College visits Salisbury tomorrow as well in a Capital Athletic Conference game which opens both teams seasons. Both teams are the reigning C.A.C. Champions. The Lady Gulls have had impressive campaigns but have fallen just short of National Champions in the previous years. Look for an impressive win to get the ball rolling for the season!
The men’s baseball team continues their season with a double header on the 17th facing the visiting Stevens Institute at 12pm at the Salisbury Athletic Complex. Virginia Wesleyan defeated the Gulls in 5-4 in the 10th inning in Salisbury’s first game. The game was played at Wesleyan.
Please come out and support your Seagulls this weekend at the Salisbury Athletic Complex and cheer them on to another winning season and championships!!!

Baseball Will Survive!
What common similarities do these aspects of Major League Baseball share?
George Brett and pine tar; pitchers and "doctoring" the ball; Sammy Sosa and others corking their bats; The Black Sox Scandal; The Congressional Hearings on Steroids.
All are part of the lore and progressive history of pushing the threshold of what players are willing to do to gain an advantage. Though the Brett incident did not fundamentally alter the outcome of the game it still shows how an incident in 1983 still lives on today in readily known baseball history. Mythbusters debunked the corked bat theory and many pitchers have come up with variety of ways to get the ball to oh so duck unexpectedly at the plate. Still tampering with the equipment seemed liked the only way to gain some advantage over another player. Both methods still have had their respective moments in baseball history and numerous incidents will be remembered in history and lore. Where do steroids and the Congressional Hearings fit in?
These hearings are unprecedented in sports and the NFL/Roger Goodell looks like they will be following the same path as Bud Selig. Obviously steroid and performance enhancers have been hidden throughout the years, for how long only history and when the truth comes out will tell, and it is shocking us. These are the players many of us grew up idolizing. It is crushing to see my boyhood heroes become profaners of the game and what we naively believed in when we were young. We never thought or it possibly could happen that these players would in fact try to cheat egregiously. Yet we have accept it for what it is and have to continue on in some manner.
This brings me to my first point, the game survives and the fans are still there. Bonds, McGuire, Clemens, The 2002 All Star Game debacle, Lights Out and Candlestick, the Death of Roberto Clemente, and any other tragedy or knock against the game the fans still unite and come back. Fans believe in baseball and the rites it possesses. Think back to all the times we had going to games, trading cards, playing in whomever’s back yard(s) we could thinking we were our favorite players, and the times with our dads/families. They were good and still will be good because the ideal of baseball and the ability for baseball and other major league sports builds community. It brings us together to cheer on our team and players in a exercise in life and death. We were in the edges of our seats waiting to see if we would strike out the last batter with a man on third or if our slugger would belt one over the fence to win the game. Win or loose, we loved every second of the drama.
These proceedings, caused by the actions of players, detract from this community and yet it will survive, though without it’s irreparable black eye which has been caused. For every player who detracts from the game there is one who adds to the game. These are the players who play for the sake of the game like kids who are living out their dreams. There are those who have immortalized the game, the purity of it, which solidifies an example to follow and reminds us that the game can and has been good; Cal Ripken Jr., Nolan Ryan, Ken Griffey Jr., Joltin’ Joe, Lou Gehrig, Roberto Clemente, Jim Abbot, and Dave Draveky to name a few. These are who we believe in! These athletes allow us to have hope, excitement, and dreams which builds up this certain aspect of community which allows kids and us older kids to still have that enjoyment which we hope we never loose.
Politically speaking many may feel different about these proceedings. Rather you agree or not with the proceedings no one can deny that this constitution of our American Life is important to preserve. Integrity is the key word here. There is always going to be some type of scandal going on in sports but it is going to be hard times if such actions go unaddressed. What example are we trying to put forth? How are we going to respond? This is a deep loaded question which will take time to answer.
I believe this is a dark time for baseball and professional sports. Unequivocally I believe we will get through it though it will hurt knowing that the game, some of the players, and their subsequent records will be tarnished and diminished. Baseball survived the Black Sox scandal and I believe that incident was the worst incident in baseball till now. Baseball will get through due to the belief that people still believe in baseball. These individuals will want to protect and sanctify the game so it can be preserved for every generation. The fans are the bedrock for the game. As long as we, as fans, remember that and believe in the community of baseball these hearings/allegations and subsequent findings will be history that we ought not repeat.

Daily Times True to Form Again
Wanting to sow additional seeds of discord among First District Republicans, the Daily Times stretched the truth a bit today. While I can certainly understand the disappointment and even transient bitterness of Rep. Wayne Gilchrest's staff and supporters, the Daily Times published an article where readers are left to believe that Maryland Sen. Andy Harris failed to acknowledge Gilchrest's service in Congress, to his country, and to the people of Maryland's First District.
There's just one problem for reporter Joe Gidjunis and his employers at the Daily Times, it's simply not true. WBOC ran video of Andy Harris thanking Gilchrest for his service. While the video is no longer available on WBOC's web site, someone did post it on YouTube. You can view it here (if your browser does not properly play the embedded player, click HERE):
What's the point of the article? While I'm sure that the editors of the Daily Times will protest, the inference is that they want to continue poking sticks at Gilchrest's supporters in the hope that they will vote for Frank Kratovil in the fall.

Two Wrong's Don't Make A Right
To All Wayne Gilchrest Voters:
Please tell me where Wayne Gilchrest acknowledged Andy Harris' record and service to the United States, the state of Maryland, the United States Senate, his service in the Navy, his record as a physician and in his victory to win the Republican Congressional Candidate for the United States Congress?
A select few want to rag on Andy's Campaign Manager where the Press left out his portion where he did in fact recognize Wayne's service in Congress and his service to his Country.
I am awaiting a link to WBOC's video of Andy's speech Tuesday night where Andy, (the Candidate) expressed his gratitude towards Wayne Gilchrest in the Armed Forces AND in Congress. I was there. I listened to Andy VERY respectfully acknowledging Wayne Gilchrest, yet some want to attack the Harris Campaign and they're wrong in doing so.
I will prove this with a link later this afternoon. I was there, 99.5% of you were not. I'll add, the video speaks for itself. I say this with all due respect. Wayne needs to man up and concede to Andy Harris and or the Republican Party. That's MY opinion, period.
The link is in the Post above by GA Harrison. GO HERE to view as well.

Another Letter To The Publisher
"After reading this blog for the past few days, I couldn’t help but make a commentary on certain things. I’ve never written this blog before, but hopefully Joe will post this or something. I am absolutely appalled at some of the statements made about Andy Harris. While I do not debate their right to say so, I do wonder about the education behind some of these comments.
First of all, the comment which seems to be the strongest is that the Eastern Shore has lost all representation and that Harris will absolutely not represent the Shore when elected Congressman. I find this statement to be COMPLETELY unfair, as well as absurd. Each Congressman is elected to represent his DISTRICT. It would be a very poor policy indeed if one were to only represent part of the district. It would be a sure recipe for a loss in the next election. If Harris only represents those on the Western Shore, then he will certainly lose election in two years.
Also, it seems unfair to level criticism at a man who has a proven track record of constituent service. I have friends in his Senate district, and they appreciate him very much. Harris has yet to cast a single vote in US Congress, yet people already say he won’t represent the District. Give him a chance to prove himself, I have no doubts he will be a strong advocate for the Shore. If you do not believe me, look at those who have endorsed him. Local officials, such as Mike Lewis, Lowell Stoltzfus and Rich Colburn have supported his campaign. These esteemed gentlemen were raised on the Shore, and they know that Andy will be very good for the Shore. Furthermore, throughout the primary campaign, Harris spent more time down here than any other candidate. I believe EJ Pipkin came down here twice. Once to announce, and once the weekend before the election, if WBOC is to be believed. Others did spend some time down here, but I know for a fact that Harris was down here frequently.
The other criticism that has been tossed around is that Harris did not win a single county on the Eastern Shore. However, one has to remember again that it is a DISTRICT. One has to win a majority of voters across the region. If the other candidates had done better on the Shore, they may not have had to worry about Harris’ lead elsewhere. However, Harris was able to stay very close to the other candidate on the Shore, showing that his support his widespread throughout the District. If he had only garnered a slim amount, then that statement would be more relevant, but to lose Wicomico by only 60 some votes is an amazing feat.
Ladies and Gentleman, it seems remarkably unfair and somewhat arrogant to say that Andy Harris will not represent the Shore in Congress. He has a strong record of constituent services, and will be a fair advocate for all members and areas of the District. Why? Because it is his job!!!"
Sincerely,
Adam

Let Me Try This Again
99.5% of the Incumbents WIN their races. In the case of Wayne Gilchrest, the Voters spoke out.
The Daily Times and several Blogs are pounding their chest claiming Andy Harris lost the Eastern Shore. OMG, get a grip, you Idiots! Andy Harris, a completely unknown to the Eastern Shore, lost by 64 vote, perhaps less. I heard the other day it was down to 24 votes.
Nevertheless, the ODDS were 95.5% to .05% Andy Harris would lose! This Post is NOT about pounding MY chest in victory. This Post is about REALITY Ladies & Gentlemen. I have been ripped a new one up and down by GA Harrison for going on the attack against Wayne Gilchrest and while I respect GA's position, let's all be adults here and face reality.
Wayne Gilchrest was not re-elected. Each Congressman represents around 450,000 Citizens. This creates a 1st Districts that is NOT just the Eastern Shore. One day it may be but right now it's a very small portion of that District.
The 1st District is also a majority strong hold towards Democrats, yet they vote, (many of them) for a Republican. I'm not going to get into politics here as to why people do what they do. All I'm saying, (which everyone else is afraid to do) is that Wayne Gilchrest has disrespected the REPUBLICAN PARTY by not conceding to Andy Harris.
Wayne claims Chris Meekins disrespected Wayne and that's just not true. Andy Harris said in an interview this morning that the Press left out the last part of his victory statement. He went on to say, "The Press reports what the Press wants to report."
As I do NOT represent the Harris Campaign and I have the freedom of my own opinion and speech, Gilchrest needs to cut the bullshit and face reality, people wanted a change. "People don't like how Congress is working," said Andy Harris and he's right.
I respect the fact that so many like and or love Wayne Gilchrest. I happen to think he's got a Wife that is just out of this world. However, Voters made a choice, the District is what it is and the end result is the end result.
If YOU want a Democratic Congress, vote for a Democrat and watch the end results screw you over so bad you'll never see straight for many years ahead. If you want to gain back the Majority in Congress, please don't blow smoke up MY a$$ and try and tell me Andy Harris will not deliver. Andy Harris will in fact deliver and the majority of the people in the 1st District firmly believe that.
To base your vote on hatred towards me or because Wayne is hurting is irresponsible and wrong. That's MY opinion and quite frankly, (for the second time) Andy Harris beat out an incumbent because he's as REAL as it gets.
Some people want to tell me, don't piss off the Wayne voters. You know what, the Wayne voters are already pissed off and I can't say as I could blame any one of them. If MY Candidate was beat, come on, I'd be pissed off too. However, this happens in EVERY race and we need to stand behind our Party, a great man and take back Congress.
Wayne, I know you follow this Blog. Step up and do the right thing for your Party. You've enjoyed 18 years in Congress and truly, I thank you personally. My God Wayne, don't go out like a Bill Duvall! Remember where you came from and those people who got you there.
The race is over for the Republicans in the 1st District. Stand behind Andy Harris and quit playing the crybaby card based on something a Campaign Manager allegedly said. Speak to Chris one on one and or to Andy and get it from the Horses Mouth. ASK to see Chris Meekin's Speech, Wayne. It's time to move forward as Republican's and I would hope others will agree?
Extended Voting Hours
While most of you were on the Eastern Shore taking it easy last Tuesday night, many people coming from Annapolis sat in traffic for 4 hours because a tractor trailer wrecked on the Severn River Bridge. This completely closed the Bridge down and a Judge decided to extend the voting hours by 1 1/2 hours.
Although many seemed to be outraged that their was an extension, I personally thought it was fantastic. In the end, (I thought this was so cool) 9,441 Voters voted AFTER 8:00 PM and to me, that's what makes America great! A Judge with great wisdom opened the polls for an extended period and I can personally tell you that I stood out in that cold outdoors watching people pull in, one after the other, sometimes 2, 3 & 4 cars at a time to get in after hours voting.
They would walk up to us outside and say, "Are we too late?" Andy Harris got the news they were extending the hours and he immediately said, "Let's get out there and get some more votes." Hence the photos above. When I started making calls while heading to this location, friends were telling me, that's why this guy Harris is going to win.
Well it certainly paid off and while some polls had no one come in after hours, almost 10,000 people got their chance to do what America was based on, they got to vote after all.
If You Want Something Done Right, Do It Yourself!
While the Taxpayers of Salisbury & Wicomico County continue to wait for what is right and necessary, finally, someone took it upon themselves to create a fundraiser to get the ball rolling for young people locally.
For far too long young people have watched businesses that cater to their wants and needs close their doors in Salisbury & Wicomico County, while Salisbury University plays the biggest roll in boosting the local economy.
If I was one of these Student, I'd be outraged! The reinvestment back into the largest chunk of the economy is vital, yet the City of Salisbury does absolutely nothing to keep things balanced.
A Skate Park has been discussed for years and is probably one of the least expensive investments the City/County could buy into, seriously! ALL they had to do was put it together and for years they could come back saying, we listened and we delivered. Instead, citizens have to do it themselves and quite frankly I'm personally extremely disappointed in Rick Pollitt and Barrie Tilghman on this issue.
I personally think they're throwing it in the faces of SU Students, bitching about their behavior and passing laws that quickly throw these Students in Jail should they become too loud. GIVE THESE STUDENTS SOMETHING TO DO!
I have always spoken highly towards Rick Pollitt. I have called his Office weekly with ideas "I" felt could help their cause and 90% of what I've offered seemed to be very well received and quite frankly, some of them have become law.
The bottom line here is, the City/County need to take partnership with this Group and make this a success. They need to pony up some land and make it work. Perhaps add a Driving Range to the Skate Park as well. Maybe some batting cages and BAM, you've got yourself one heck of a place that could recoup your investment!
Congratulations to this group for putting this together. Do let me know if the Mayor's Office and Rick Pollitt's Office contact you and partner up with you. The Students deserve better.

Bill Duvall Hates Me So Bad Now, He Wants All Republicans To Vote For A Democrat
The Anti Albero Bloggers are out in full swing desperately begging all Republican Voters to please vote for Kratovil in the General Election, including Bill Duvall.
Does this seriously remind you of Elementary School games, or what? Let's bully Joe Albero and make everyone hate him. Wa, Wa, Wa! I go to Bill's Site for the entertainment and that's exactly what I got. So thanks for making my point about you even more sincere Billy. You've lost it Old Man. Not just your mind but everyone's respect, especially Republican's. Andy Harris is truly a great man. I can set up a one on one meeting Mr. Duvall, if you'd like? I personally believe you'd walk away convinced this is a great man. However, you're not man enough to face reality and too bitter against me to even give it a shot.
The offer is there, should you chose to take it?
Today Truly Is A Special Day!
Ladies & Gentlemen, today marks a very special day for Salisbury News. You see, "GRANDDAD" has joined the writing staff, (so to speak) and to me, that's very special.
Granddad has a way of getting right to the heart of an issue and does so in a way we can all relate with. I truly look forward to seeing his wisdom pop on here as often as humanly possible, (LOL).
So welcome aboard Granddad and thanks for playing a part of a better future for Wicomico County. The Daily Times should start sweating bullets soon!

Politicians and Lies
About a week ago, a friend of mine who live on Morris Leonard Rd. in Parsonsburg told me that he had talked to our Councilman Joe Holloway about three weeks before and asked him for help in reducing the speed limit from 50 miles per hour on that road due to the fact that he has small children who play in the area.. He stated that his kids play in the yard and when cars go by at 50 it makes him nervous. He stated that he had never heard anything back from Holloway. I told him that he should call Rick Pollitt and talk to him about it. Joe Holloway has told me in the recent past that since we have a County Executive, the council members are not permitted to talk to the department heads.
I am familiar with the road in question since I live around the corner from him. Morris Leonard road is very narrow road in the area of my friend house which is about 150 yards from the stop sign at Parsonsburg Rd. There is a sharp curve in the road about 150 yards from my friends house in the other direction. There have been many vehicles in the past that have run off the road at that curve because they were going too fast.
I told my friend that I would make contact with Rick Pollitt to see what we could do. I called Rick's office about two weeks ago and he was out of town. His secretary directed me to Mr. Sharma, head of County Roads. After about a week and two phone calls to Mr. Sharma and direct conversation with Rick Pollitt, I was able to talk to Mr. Sharma. I advised Mr. Sharma of our concerns and of the conversation my friend had with Joe Holloway. Mr. Sharma assured me that he never had any conversation with Joe Holloway about that stretch of road. Mr. Sharma stated that he was sure that, since Joe Holloway is a busy person, he must have forgotten about it. Mr. Sharma stated that he has had complaints over the past four years about the speed limit on that road but didn't see any reason to change it. My position was that if there are six houses on that stretch of road and there are children in the area on such a narrow road, what harm could there be in lowering the speed limit in an attempt to help assure the safety of the children? Mr. Sharma stated that he would personally ride out there and re-assess the situation to see if he could lower the speed limit.
Yesterday Mr. Sharma called me and advised me that upon his review of the area he decided that a reduction of 10 miles per hour was appropriate. I thanked him for all his help and called my friend to tell him of the news. My friend was happy, stating that he was greatful for any reduction of speed he could get to help assure the safety of the kids in the area. End of story....right? Wrong.
Today my friend called me and told me that he came out of his house after lunch time today and Joe Holloway was parked in his driveway. He approached Joe who stated "I've been working on this for a while and I got the speed limit lowered by 10 MPH.....Is that good enough?" My friend was in disbelief. Since he works for Wicomico County he didn't want to make any waves with a Councilman who had just taken credit for doing something he hadn't done. He thanked Joe and then called me when their conversation was over to tell me what had just happened.
Joe......this is the fact. We, as a community, got together and made the necessary phone calls to address a need we had. One of us asked you for your help but it didn't happen. No offense. We know your busy - and I'm being serious - you can't handle every issue in your district. BUT...don't lie about it. Don't act like you did something when you didn't. Don't try to take credit for something you had nothing to do with. Many people are concerned about recent things you've done while acting in your official capacity. Don't make matters worse by lying like some big city politician.
I'd like to personally and publicly thank Rick Pollitt and Mr. Sharma for thier help in solving a traffic problem that concerned some of the citizens here in Parsonsburg. 10 miles per hour may not seem like much but it could mean the difference between stopping before or after a child is hit..
