On Sunday the Parsonsburg Fire Department rode through all the neighborhoods with lights and sirens going and handing out Candy Canes, towing along Santa in a lawn chair.
Each year my kids look forward to seeing the Firetruck come down our Rd. so they can run out and get a candy cane. We were not aware that they would be doing it again lastnight but were thrilled to hear them coming down our Rd. What a great thing to do for the community....Thanks so much Parsonsburg VFD!!!
It is nice they do that but lets look at the unsafe pratices: Santa NOT SEAT BELTED sitting on top of the engine. 2 firemen standing up NOT SEAT BELTED. When will these firemen learn they are not above the law? What if they got in a wreck? That would be an insurance nightmare.
We went by the Pittsveill Fire department yesterdan and they had Santa and Mrs. Claus out in front waving not sure if they did rounds on the fire truck as they do every year. Its great that these fire companies do this the kids love it.
anon 11:12 These are the same people that would go into your house to pull you out if it was on fire. That too is unsafe but you wouldn't have a problem with that. Its the holiday season try to be nice at least if its only for a few weeks Merry Christmas
We happened to be coming home last night using Old OC rd so that we could slow down a bit and let the kids enjoy everyone's Christmas lights. we happened to have the FD turn onto Old OC rd in front of us and proceed slowly. we had no Idea what was going on. but I noticed that someone was riding on top of the Fire Truck. When they stopped to give a candy cane to a kid on the side of the road, we realized what was up. They pulled over on the left side of the road at one point to see a kid and we immediately passed, puled into the convenience store there in parsonsburg and waited for Santa to come by. he and his "Helpers" stopped and gave each of our kids a Cane too. yet another instance of selfless giving of time to make the season bright!!! I love it.
I believe Pittsville decided to have Santa and the Mrs. at the fire house with pictures this year in order to allow the kids to come and hang out with them. It is also safer and less costly with fuel and wear and tear.
I used to live in Parsonsburg, and the yearly Santa visit was always one of the highlights of my kids' Christmas season. Thanks to the PFD for continuing this tradition!
My son also enjoys seeing Santa on the firetruck every year come through our neighborhood in Parsonsburg. Last night, we heard the sirens and prepared to run outside. When we went outside, we saw the truck turn down one of the roads in our neighborhood. My son and I waited outside for it to come around our street (along with numerous other children in their yards), but the firetruck left the neighborhood without going through the entire way! My son cried and was devastated as we heard the firetruck ride off (and the other children were also sadly disappointed). While this is an event we enjoy every year, we were sad that we were unable to enjoy it this year. I'm just not sure why the firetruck did not drive through the entire neighborhood (only two streets) before leaving.
Each year my children also look forward to the Parsonsburg Fire Dept to come around with Santa and hand out candy canes. Last night both of my small children ran out to the road as the fire truck was approaching and the fire truck just went by and did not stop. My kids were devastated. I understand if they ran out of candy canes, but that wasn't the point. They could have at least stopped. What a disappointment!
I have lived in Salisbury most of my life, now in Parsonsburg for the last nine years - the Parsonsburg Fire Dept is the BEST !!!! They really care about all of us - Thank you for giving up your time off to make the young and old smile every year!!

ReplyDeleteJust like this Blog, you can't please everyone, yet you can't say we don't try. The same goes with the Candy Canes and the Fire Department.
The idea is that they made an extra effort to GIVE BACK to their community and then a critic like you comes along and complains.
They did nothing disrespectful and you should be greatful for their service and gifts, period. Just my opinion.
