Abused Puppies?

Hi Joe,

I am writing you to tell you about a man who is selling Jack Russell puppies in Whaleyville, MD. My mother saw an ad in the guide for JR puppies and she scheduled a time to go and look at them. When she got there she was appalled! The puppies were in a shed that was wet, cold and the doors were held shut with a rake & shovel. There wasn't any bedding, just wet pine needles. The puppies are severely ill. She bought one and immediately took it to her vet. The pup is filled with hook and round worms. The vet informed her that if she didn't bring it in that it would have died. When the puppy goes to the bathroom it is nothing but worms. She is calling the Worcester County Humane Society in the morning to see if they can investigate this man. He has multiple litters and the parent dogs appear to be ill as well. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

  1. If you believe that animals are being abused, i think that you are supposed to call the police. Obviously these animals should be removed from that place immediatly.

  4. I'm just curious as to why your mother would buy one of the puppies after seeing the "appalling" conditions they lived in and ascertaining that they are "severely ill." Cute as they may be, I would have gotten out of there quickly.

Gee, my best guess would be that it was the least she could do to save one of the puppies. Hopefully the othes will be as lucky before it's too late.

  6. Please let us know what happens. I would be willing to nurse a puppy back to health and then have it adopted. Please keep us informed on the circumstance.

  7. I don't mean to ruffle any feathers here, but WHY do people keep insisting on BUYING purebred dogs when there are so many desperate shelter dogs waiting for homes?????Is it imperative that one must have a certain kind of dog?Sure,Purebreds are nice, but why not save yourself several hundred bucks and rescue a shelter dog, thus saving its life?

  9. Now that we have everyone attention, please be careful regarding any ads in papers where the person will "meet you at a rest stop". There is a man that comes thru Salisbury and sells puppies from the Western Shore. He promises you AKC papers that you will NEVER get. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

  11. I adopted a 2 year old Purebred JRT from a resuce organization in July. The cost of that adoption would have bought us a 8 week old puppy from a breeder. Not only that, a lot of rescue and shelter animals have been abused and most people do not want to deal with the emotional problems that can come with adoption sometimes. There are purebreds and mixed breeds in shelters and rescues...you can have your pick of breeds. I think that if all people would support shelters AND rescues, that we could shut some of the puppy mills down. There is nothing wrong with wanting a purebred animal....there are many rescues in this area, not just the Humane Society.

  12. Yes indeed there are several people that do breed rescue in the Salisbury area. Almost any breed someone would want. They are lovely dogs that either the owner had to go into a nursing home or had to move to an apt and could no longer keep the dog. They prefer to send their dog to rescue to make certain the dog goes to someone that knows about the breed. Usually The breed clubs finance getting them vet checked before they go to a new home. So, if the humane society does not have what you want look into specific breed rescue.
