Andy Harris Conceds To Frank Kratovil

Senator Andy Harris has conceded to Congressman Elect Frank Kratovil in Maryland's 1st District Race.

While this was a tough campaign for both parties, final votes were within 1% of one and other and could call for an automatic recount.

I want to personally congratulate Frank Kratovil and his entire Staff for a well run campaign. It may not have been pretty but he got the job done and that's all that counts.

Everyone is at the Court House in Downtown Salisbury as we speak with quite a few of his supporters throughout his Campaign. I will follow up shortly with the formal outcome of this gathering and Andy's intentions in the future.

  1. Congrats on a good campaign. Now, let's focus on something Dems and Repubs can agree on: NO GARY COMEGYS AS MAYOR! He intends to announce tomorrow, I believe. I think I just threw up in my mouth.

Eye by eye, tooth by tooth. Harris was dirty to begin with. That is how he defeated Gilchrest. He is the only reason why Distric 1 went the other way.

  3. "It may not have been pretty"? Coming from you? Forgive me if I laugh uncontrollably.

  5. This, from the "Red Maryland" blog, is worth reading:

Let me start by confessing that I did not support Harris in the primary. He was strident, arrogant, and a one trick pony running only on the pro-life issue. At one of the debates, he assured all that would listen that the 1st would vote for a conservative Republican every time. He and his staff lied and bullied their way through the primary. Did anyone really check the records of the other two? Come on. Pipkin a tax hiker? Gilchrest against the troops?

Harris was willing to say and do anything to have himself crowned king

But sadly the lemmings (Republican Primary Voters) believed the insanity and followed Harris, with the assistance of Bob Ehrlich and some State Senators, right over the cliff.

Look at the results. John McCain hardly campaigned in Maryland. The state was in the Obama column months ago. And yet, John McCain won the 1st District. The people in the 1st are swing voters and they judge the man, not the party, when making their decision. Those that say it was Bush, the economy, the Democratic machine, or any other excuse are simply hiding their heads in the sand. A Republican could have won, but Andy Harris could not.

Let the revisionists try to spin the story. The naked truth is that Andy Harris was an awful candidate that stood no chance of representing the district as a whole. His tactics were nothing short of schoolyard bullying and the people rejected him.

But in all honesty, we Republicans got what we deserved. If we had the guts to reject Harris from the beginning as someone two divisive for the district, maybe Obama would have one less vote to get his liberal policies passed. And that one vote makes the whole country suffer.

As for Meekins, we all know what will happen. He will end up at some organization – probably Club for Growth since they did all the Harris dirty work – and in a few years some fool Republican will hire him again. The kid has to eat so I wish him luck.

As for Harris, anyone that is fool enough to think that he should try again in two years needs to be shut down. Lets learn from the mistakes and correct them. Start now to get a candidate that has appeal across the whole district. And let’s wise up to the fact that a purity test in a primary does not equal a victory for any of our issues.

Obama already had that liberal vote -- Wayne Gilchrest. All that's changed is the 1st district liberal now has a 'D' after his name.
