This Saturday at 2pm come on down to Cypress Park and get together with other skate rats for a couple of hours to hang out and enjoy some dogs and burgers and soda's.
Parents of skaters are providing food and drinks, skaters provide an afternoon of showing off, teaching the younger kids how to do what you do.
We are also going to take some time discuss future events, such as competitions at the facility, and we are also going to take few minutes to pick up any trash that may be laying around to be good citizens, and give back a little bit.
If you don't have a skate park card be sure you get one tomorrow so that you can participate on Saturday.
This will be a great time to get to know others who are into skating and get a chance to share what we know with one another.
Skaters of all ages are invited and so are their parents.
So I hope to see you there!
Hey, the grand opening of the Salisbury Skate Park is the following weekend........oh, that's right, we don't have one. Never mind.
ReplyDeleteYeah now the total is Wor 2 parks
ReplyDeleteWico/Salisbury 0 parks It seems two me there was some money at one time for this on donated Salisury City land and a $350,000 Wicomico County budget item. This has all just dissapeared and that's typical. Just 1000's of kids let down once again.Don't worry when some of them turn to a life of crime, starting with skateboarding in the city,we can invest tax dollars at 40k/yr to keep them in prison.Should have got Fannie Mae to help us out!The Mare probably knows some big shot in the corporate elite over there!!!!!
Actually we are still in the process of raising money and applying for state funding through Community Parks and Playgrounds to get Salisbury a Skate Park. We have recently incorporated and are getting non-profit status. Last weekend we held a benefit concert and will be holding additional fund raising events in the spring. Please visit our web site at www.salisburysk8park.com for general information and upcoming events.

hey old fishy! the count is going to go higher too! the truth is that ocean pines is putting in a concrete skatepark. OCEAN PINES! yes, the governing body got behind it and put their money where their mouths are! and in less than 1 year they will have their skatepark. it's appalling that Ocean Pines will have a skatepark before salisbury. what am i talking about, it' appalling that POCOMOKE has a skatepark before salisbury! (such as it is) and it's not much. better than nothing i suppose. so i'm glad that pocomoke is having a celebration to open the skatepark. i will not be attending. it's not worth the drive.
ReplyDeletealso, mr brock? how many more fund raisers are you all going to have before the skatepark is built? and how long is it going to take?
ps.
ReplyDeleteJoe, please monitor this story. and if anyone comes back and uses the "tax cap" as an excuse for salisbury not having a skateboard park, could you deal with them accordingly? thank you
Anon 4:48 PM I guess I know who you are? Anyway...The sad thing is the County allowed the beloved Ria Sharma to celebrate an early retirement after he sat around asking for a new street sweeper and bragging on the employees at the landfill, while the entire staff either turned a blind eye or filled 'er up! I'll bet the total was way higher than admitted to and us taxpayers will never hear or see the truth about the $$$$ I think Sharma and Townsend should be cell mates and a class should be taught in local schools about why they can't have things like skate parks because the mean men stole all the county money to pay for fuel for A- A S- Stupid- Ass- Person and then our cities beloved "mare" who was so ripped she pissed away the future of our youth with her worthless, feel good, alcohol induced, midget married butt was taken care of business at every coctail hour east, west, north and south of the Eastern Shore version of the 70's Hudson River! This county and the city of Salisbury's futures are flushed down the toilet out the sewer and in to the river!! SACK UP JOE and let's get this done before the people like our local kids are voting socialist like mom & mom (Johnny Has 2 mommies remember) and joining the mare's SS Youth Party!!!!! I'm not done just seeing if this get's past edit before I waste more time ranting about these leaders and the little blind, brainless, sheep that follow them! To be cont....?Sack up time!

ReplyDeleteWe will continue to have fund raisers but can't rely on them to get the funds to build the park unless we were to get a huge donation from someone. We basically have two options to get funds for our skate park. One is through Maryland's Program Open Space (POS)which is a matching funds program. We have to come up with 10% of the total we want and the program kicks in the rest. This is where the fund raisers help. If we can raise $10K then we can get $90K from POS if we are awarded the funds. Lots of other people apply for this funding as well and the kettle has been greatly depleted. The second option is through Community Parks and Playgrounds which is also a Md program. We have applied for this funding already and have to wait several months to see if it's approved. This is not a matching funds program. So, the more we can raise the more we can get if we have to go with POS. It's going to cost about $400K to get the kind of park we want. The one other point I want to make is that these programs are set up for precisely this purpose - parks and recreation facilities for Md communities. If we don't get this funding it's going to go for a park or playground somewhere else in the state. Hopefully we can get some funding to benefit Salisbury.

Craig nothing personal but take your calculator and divide the estimated cost of the Salisbury Park by the average net profit per fundraiser to date.Without even knowing those figures you'll be old professional fundraisers by the time you have enough money.Let me tell you what should be priority #1 get Wicomico County and the City of Salisbury to step up with a significant package consisting of the land, deeded to the skate park, and the $$ commitment in writing and signed by the powers to be.With that go to Wicomico Co./Rick & Council and request the same written signed $$ commitment. With that in hand contact me through Maury H. and I'll give you a list of people that are capable of writing the check for the balance. With all that said wake from the dream you've been having while reading this and light a fire under the ass of a few key people listed in my posts! Remember Craig alot of the people you're dealing with are professional liars and are such pitiful people that the truth is something they have not stated in so long they would choke on their tongues if they tried to be honest. It's a shame that they would not realize idle time for teens = crime in many areas of the county and knowing that sack up and prove they care about the youth of the area!
ReplyDeleteThanks Old Fisherman. Yeah, I did the calculations too but the figures I came up with put me in the grave before we can get enough money. That's why we are going after the state funding. The fund raisers are continuing so we can increase our "match" in case we get approved by POS that requires the matching funds. We actually had a line item in the county budget two years ago but it was killed. We also have a site generously given to us by the Mayor and City Council in the City Park - 9,000 sq ft. So, thanks for the advice, we will continue to lobby the locals and raise money to the best of our ability.
ReplyDeleteCraig
Craig how much POS $ was sent to the Shore from the '08 Funds? The answer should be fairly accurate so no guessing. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteJoe,
ReplyDeletePlease could you put up some sort of post regarding the new skate park in Ocean Pines that is under construction as we speak and perhaps email me for some facts pertaining to the Mare & Opie making false statements of hope to the thousands of kids that are deserving of a project like this regardless of inept government. Thanks!
