OCPD Mounted Patrol Horse Retires

The Ocean City Police Department is announcing that long time veteran Mounted Patrol
Horse “Buddy” is being retired after 16 years of dedicated service to the Town of Ocean City.

Throughout “Buddy’s” career, he has been a faithful and loyal partner to several OCPD
mounted patrol officers. He has been involved in hundreds of arrests as well as crowd
control situations, searches for lost children, public events, demonstrations and
parades.

Because of his demeanor and dependability, “Buddy” was regularly used as the primary
“new mounted officer” training horse. His vast experience made him a regular choice
for high profile events such as President William Jefferson Clinton’s 2nd inauguration parade that took place in January 1997, in Washington, DC.

Upon his retirement, Chief Bernadette DiPino has promoted “Buddy” to the rank of
Sergeant. “Buddy” is approximately 26 years old and has enjoyed a distinguished
career with the OCPD. To ensure “Buddy’s” safe and tranquil transition to retirement,
an OCPD officer and his family have agreed to stable “Buddy” at their farm for his
remaining days. “Buddy” will continue to be cared for by his police family, enjoying lush
green pastures in a safe and peaceful setting.
