PROJECTED GASOLINE CONSUMPTION FOR WICOMICO

Wicomico County is soliciting bids for 190,000 of 87 Octane gasoline and 190,000 gallons of diesel fuel for FY 2008-2009.

Now that is an astronomical amount of fuel being consumed by our County government. Not to mention, an astronomical amount of money being spent from the taxpayers coffers.

One would think that a central terminal would be in order in increase efficiency and streamline process.

  1. I believe one of the Central Tank Depots is located on the Lewis Property at Forest Grove Road.

  2. what does this compare to other counties? What is the breakdown for this usage? what was the usage over the last 10 years? is there more information than this one page Requst for Bid?

There isnt enough information on this one pager for me to know whether this is astronomical or not. Perhaps there are vehicles or generators that require this. If so, what is the replacement cost for vehicles that seem to be high-usage? Has there been a cost/benifit analysis on replacing vehicles and generators, vs the cost of fuel?

  4. The county already has a central fueling location on Owens Branch Rd. The Sheriff's cars get their fuel there as well as other county vehicles.

  5. I think that the amount of 87 octane is reasonable if you consider it does fuel sheriffs office patrol vehicles. One one shift you have 7 or 8 guys on the road patrolling for an 8 - 10 hour period. Someone should check the usage that MSP uses in a year to see if it is a reasonable number or not.

  6. during the long summer hours that both ferries run, that is 13 and half hours a day.each ferry is using about 200 gallons a week.during the rest of the year each ferry burns about 115 gallons a week.would a bridge be better???
