I've lived in Salisbury about 12 years. We once had trash pickup twice a week.
Most anything reasonable could put out for collection.
A few years later, rates climbed; it was changed to weekly (hardly enough for
many families). Collectible items were restricted and special fees were charged.
Now, not only is the service more costly, at times our trash cans are left in
the street.
This is a hardship for some elderly residents, an annoyance for others and even
a traffic hazard, since at times parking spaces are full of trash cans so that
when a resident returns, he or she must park elsewhere or stop in the street to
return the can to the curb.
I recall an ordinance requiring residents to put their cans back away from the
walk before early the morning after pickup. Apparently, we must do this -- but
the city can leave them anywhere.
I have spoken to the city about this. Once they did respond for awhile, but
once again they are leaving them in the street.
Last week another truck came through after the trash collection.
I politely asked if the driver was going to leave the cans in the street, to
which he replied that they would put them back after they were done.
We pay for services -- not attitude. Many cities have a tight budget -- we all
do -- but in Salisbury, residents seem to have no say in quality or cost of
services.
Unless, of course, you have an inside track to City Hall, in which case you can
get curves on a straight road (see Isabella Street).

Eric, that would be called a FOB!
Eric,
ReplyDeleteSick your mom on them! Miss "Irma-lou" can get anyone to do just about anything!!!! She'll somehow make you thank her for fussing at you!!! :)
Seriously though, Salisbury has such a sad and lazy attitude that it's just OK to be pathetic at your job and steal from the taxpayer....anyone remember Robinhood? Can we get one of those for justice in this city?

Done worry I am very confident in the current administration, they will in fact "get back to you on that"
ReplyDeletetwo words for ya assisted living
ReplyDeleteThey also start collecting as early as 6:30am and the noise of the trucks picking up and dropping the cans disturbs the whole neighborhood. Isn't there an ordinance against this kind of noise? The Mayors office was contacted yet they still start collecting at 6:30.

ReplyDeleteYou are very correct about the ordinance and it does exist.
Check the following link - Joe will get a kick out of this. What you are after is near the bottom.
