Question of the Day, Mon 7/21 -Did you know?

Today's comes from Melissa Malone:

Did you know that you can do an energy load profile on your entire home? It will tell you what changes you can make to save money and energy. I did it. I replaced all the light bulbs with fluorescent (even outside), set the A/C to 78 degrees and left the thermostat alone. WOW!!! What a big savings!!

To get your own energy profile, visit www.energyguide.com, type in your zip code then click on Analyze your home. Then, in the next window, click on In-Depth Analysis and start your way to saving energy and money on your very next electric bill.

  1. thats fine and dandy saving money on your electric bill. but when the power company raises your rates becauce they are loosing money, all the savings just went out the window along with the pricey light bulbs. just like gas...demand is high...prices go up, the demand is low....prices go up !!!!

  2. You wouldn't believe the amount of money you would save if you put everything on power strips. I have many kitchen appliances that used to stay plugged in all the time, now they are on a power strip and I just flip the switch when I want to use them. Just because an appliance or lamp is not turned on does not mean it is not consuming electricity. It is referred to as phantom loads. Either unplug things or put them on power strips and watch your meter readings be lower than last years.

If I set my thermo to 78, honestly, I would never sleep, just drown in a pool of sweat
