Willards fireworks are set for tonight also at the Elementary School. I think this is a first for Willards, I can sit on my porch and enjoy without the hub bub of traffic.
After the disaster that Ocean City was last night, I can assure you I will NEVER watch fireworks there again. I can understand that rain may change things a little (would have been nice to have been warned of their Plan B). They did everything an hour early. We showed up expecting to see the Navy band play, but instead, they were packing up. A half hour later the fireworks began. After an unimpressive display that lasted probably (and I'm completely guessing here) a half hour at the most, we almost got caught in the rain getting to our car. We parked bay side fairly close to the inlet and were stuck 100 meters from our parking space for literally an hour. The flooding from the rain came within an inch of our car doors while we waited in completely stopped traffic. It took us 2 hours to get home to Salisbury.
The thing is, I totally understand rain can throw a big wrench into things, but I couldn't help wondering--what does Ocean City do in an emergency evacuation? I certainly hope that their plans are MUCH better than their holiday traffic plans.
So anyway, what should have been a pleasant evening engaged in patriotic festivities turned out to be a soggy, infuriating disaster.
I still wonder why people go to OC every year to watch fireworks and get stuck in 2 hour traffic. You can see better fireworks at shorebirds stadium saturday nights and not have to worry about traffic jams. All locals should stay out of OC on 4th of July!
i would like to thank the Shorebirds and Mr. Hamilton over at Clearchannel for bringing the fireworks back to Salisbury. it was a wet night, but very enjoyable, i loved the music and the softball game and some of the interactive things. overall a great time!
Green Hill club had the best fireworks ever!!!
