Yesterday, we ran a post about a blatant lie told by Salisbury Mayor Barrie Parsons Tilghman. Today, the Daily Times has again made itself complicit in the shenanigans of the Tilghman administration by attempting to cover up the same lie.
On page B1 of the Daily Times we find the following correction:
As previously noted D'Alessandro was adamant that she quoted Tilghman correctly. D'Alessandro also made the same representation to Salisbury Councilwoman Terry Cohen (adding that City Administrator John Pick had also made similar statements). Why then would the Daily Times want to lead readers to believe:
As this year's heated budget debate continues, and the fiscal health of Salisbury circles the drain, we can wait with great anticipation to see what additional lengths the local Gannett arm will go to in order to protect the Queen of Barrieland.

On page B1 of the Daily Times we find the following correction:
Salisbury Mayor Barrie Parsons Tilghman supported a 10 percent water increase last year. A story in Monday's Daily Times incorrectly stated her position. We now find the Daily Times deliberately complicit in Tilghman's lie. I spoke with reporter Laura D'Alessandro before writing yesterday's post. On at least three separate occasions during our conversation I asked if she quoted Tilghman correctly. To refresh everyone's memory, Tilghman is quoted:
Tilghman said she did not recommend a water and sewer rate increase last year because citizens were already experiencing a double-digit tax hike -- 12 percent. After being pressed on the issue, by myself and others, the management of the Daily Times admitted that Tilghman's statement was false. The stance of their management now appears to be that D'Alessandro misquoted Tilghman. Unfortunately, scrutiny does not bear this out.
- Tilghman did not call for a rate hike last year (on Monday)?
- when caught, try to cover-up the Mayor's false statement by laying blame on D'Alessandro (Tuesday)?
As this year's heated budget debate continues, and the fiscal health of Salisbury circles the drain, we can wait with great anticipation to see what additional lengths the local Gannett arm will go to in order to protect the Queen of Barrieland.

It's HAMMER TIME. Keep on hammering away at them GA. Good job. Good questions. Greg Bassett wonders why he and his rag are referred to as THE TILGHMAN TIMES.
ReplyDeleteAnd obviously John Pick is more than willing to perpetuate Barrie's lies as well. The Big Three must go, Tilghman, Pick and Wilbur. Comegys MUST NOT BE ELECTED MAYOR!!
ReplyDeleteAlthough the Daily Times is known to screw up quotes, I believe the reporter -- easily -- on this one.
ReplyDeleteThe Daily Times failure to fully correct this story speaks volumes. That paper has compromised every shred of credibility it ever had.
Get ready to see a full page ad in the Slime soon, putting the publishers' and editors' mothers up for sale.
Even cold sober, she's unable to distinquish between fact and fiction (or perhaps it's hallucination). What a disgrace.
ReplyDeleteHeads up, all you Dirty Dozen folks, email that dude at the Times, Greg Bassett, and tell him what you think:

G. A. What else can we expect from the likes of Disgrace's editorial and administrative staff. All they know how to do is kiss a** with the Queen bee of this town. Alas though. Her day is coming and when she has to atone for her miscreant behavior and all the many lies thrown at the citizens of Barrieland. I also don't understand why Gannet continues to allow this excuse for a media outlet to continue uncontrolled and unabated?!
ReplyDeleteA. Goetz
Pick better obey his master, he's got Lore' ready to climb over him, why else would the city need both?

John Pick is a pussy that kisses the mares ass just to keep his job. If I get elected mayor I am going to kick his ass to the curb the first day I am sworn in. You can bet Lore won't be far behind. Any and all of Barries minions will follow suit.
Wasn't that tax hike 14%? With a proposed W/S 10% hike that got shot down? Thanx to Ms. C & Ms. C.
ReplyDeleteThis is why the mayor KEEPS those FLOATING accounts, to cover her ass, neverminding the impropriety.
Well there it is everyone. Lets all vote for ANON 1013. It must be a write in candidate because no name is attached.
ReplyDeleteA vote for Anon 1013 is the same as a vote for None of the Above.
