Breaking News

The Daily Times has laid off $170,000.00 worth of Employees! The struggling Gannett Publications is clearly in trouble and the timing locally couldn't be any worse.

With a new $3,000,000.00 Press and RENTING their newest location, it has been said that if it breaks, they're not fixing it any more. Others have also said, why buy the newspaper when you can access everything for free on their Website?

Perhaps things will change slightly if they actually sell their old building but quite frankly that money will run out soon as well and they'll have the exact same situation on their hands in just a matter of time.

My guess is that they'll be looking for more and more freelance people willing to work for whatever they're willing to buy? Time will tell.

GO HERE to see their stock trend and the article I wrote just days ago about their downward slump.

LONG LIVE THE BLOGS! What will Barrie do if they decide to close their door?

  2. Even the website was redesigned a week or so ago. I wonder what the price tag was on that. So now I guess Joe is gonna have to take donations for his puppy pee pads because the Daily Disappoint is going to be too small.

  3. You say "new" $3mil press - the press was not new, it was bought refurbished. Looks like they picked up someone elses lemon.

  4. If they were more than yellow journalism and a mouth piece for the city administration, maybe people would be willing to pay for the paper. As it is, just ain't no way.

Make money or kiss ass, which is it? It doesn't cost much to reformat a website, once the basics are set up it's much like a blog, just keeping the posts up to date. hmmm yeah and add honest to that list.

I agree long live the blogs!

  6. The Web site is a standard format used by newspapers across the US. The Desert Sun (Palm Springs) has used it for over a year. I am guessing it is supplied by Gannett. It is not a user-friendly site, but the funny part is that the local Daily Times is the ONLY one who uses this format who requires that you change browser settings to access parts of the site.

  7. If they begin to charge for website access, count us out.
(NY Times USED to do that, but found it NOT profitable)

  9. I guess presses are like outboard motors, if you have a good one you never get rid of it.

  11. Joe,

Please go to DELMARVANOW, and read my BLOG GONECOUNTRY, my daughter is one of the employees that was laid off.

I would love to see the paper fold. They treated her in the most common way.

By the way, are you the same Joe that I bought my rescue horse from? Shiloh is just turned 3 and is doing wonderfully, we are just beginning to work with riding her. She is already great with lunging, etc. MIke saw you in Pocomoke for the Fire House opening, you should really come see Shiloh next time you are down in this area.

  12. Yes, we are the couple who sold you the horse. I'm glad to hear you're both doing so well. I'm sorry your Daughter lost her job there. My e-mail address is at the top of the home page, if you'd like to keep in touch?

  13. I'm certainly going to miss the obituitaries. Would it be possible for local radio stations to play hymns while they announce the names of deceased, brief info and funeral arrangements. They do this in Georgia and it was so conforting to sit and listen to the announcement of departed friends in our large town.Everybody looked forward to the 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM solemn time.
