I happened to be in courtroom 2 at the District Court of Maryland on Baptist St. in Salisbury this afternoon. I witnessed the Honorable Judge Bruce Wade preside over a protective order hearing for the wife of the Wicomico County Sheriff's Deputy who now stands accused of the sexual abuse of his step-daughter.
The wife was seeking the extension of the temporary protective order currently in place to protect the step-daughter. As I listened to her testify I felt terrible for her. I thought how this Christmas is going to be next to impossible both emotionally and financially, as she testified through tears about her salary and the need for financial assistance from her husband, who is currently out on bond.
She has the new mini van. the family house, three kids, and a salary of $1000.00 per month. Talk about hard times. One thing that confuses me though. The protective order currently only offers relief to the step-daughter who was the victim of the abuse.
The wife asked the judge to extend the order to grant relief for the remaining 2 children due to the fact that she had been advised by her husbands father that her husband has been feeling suicidal. She indicated that she felt that he probably feels that in light of the charges against him, he has nothing to lose, but the judge wouldn't do it.
He stated that no evidence had been presented that indicated the husband was a threat to the remaining two children. pray to God that nothing happens to the two remaining children.
That's just F'd. Situations like this, it's not uncommon for the guy to lose it and off his whole family, then himself.
ReplyDeleteI know judges trying to respect parental rights, but isn't it better to err on the side of caution when kids are at stake? And how do you provide protection for one kid while you give access to two others?
Sometimes justice is blind, deaf and dumb.
A thought just occured to me-if he is suspended without pay how will he provide financial support to the family? Can he actually get unemployment?
ReplyDeleteMy heart goes out to her-Nobody can live on $1000 a month when they have bills to pay and kids to feed.Is there something the Sheriffs Dept can do for her,I wonder?I will definitely keep her and her children in my prayers, she should have been granted sole custody and supervised visitations at the very ;east to protect the innocent kids involved. Thanks for keeping us up to date!!
Given that one is innocent until proven guilty and apparently no allegations were made regarding the other children I suppose the judge is operating within the constraints of the law.
ReplyDeleteStill it is a bitter pill to swallow. If the man poses a risk to one of her children's well being then he poses a risk to the other chidlren as well as the mother IMHO.
Joe,
ReplyDeleteI had the sme judge 3 years ago. I had a restraining order against my ex- boyfriend, and it was just for me.
(for some reason my 3 month old was not included.) He tried to kill me while I was holding her, and I when it was time to renew my ex-parte, I wanted to include my daughter, and the SAME judge said there was no reason to include her because he didn't try to kill her. He ended up kidnapping her and taking her to Pa. for a month, and there were no repurcussions, because she was not included in the restraining order!!!! He should be held in Contempt....Like Nancy Grace would say...
Yeah, there have been several stories about upset spouses killing their kids and themselves. Wasn't there one just recently?
ReplyDeleteWhat I would like to know is:
ReplyDeleteWhy would such a protective order ever expire in the first place?
What are the ages of the other two children?
ReplyDeleteReports said he started molesting one of the girls when she was 6 years old. Where is the protection for the other kids? Because he hasn't molested them, yet? Why leave the door open with an invitation? Judge Wade needs to get a grip and follow his conscience while following the law. If he goes overboard, so what, that is why there are appeals courts. He wouldn't dare appeal any decision such as that.
ReplyDeleteMy apologies to his father but, if he is feeling suicidal, good at least he feels something. He serves no purpose on this earth, imo and he'll more than likely do it again. They all do.
Chip off the old block, how many of our Deputies are screwed in the head.
ReplyDeleteThey get this power trip. We have other deputies with mental issues, backgrounds of assualt and even some with DUIs in the past.
But all is good they have MIKE LEWIS.
Under him we have had more scandals already then Nelms had. We need some leadership- not an overachieveing beat cop. The sheriff is supposed to be the CEO of his organization. With Nelms we had to much CEO with Lewis we have to much cop.
How many more scandals will come out of our sheriffs dept? Lewis needs to run his department not be out on every call. And the money he is spending is overwhelming!
I was surprised that that his bond was lowered and he was let out of jail.
ReplyDeleteYeah this scum touches a little innocent girl and his bond is lowered and he is free for now, and the Salisbury cop who had sex with that girl who "claims" she was raped his bond was higher then this piece of scum who molested this girl and who knows if he didn't do this before to another child., and the salisbury cop was indited twice, and paid bond the second time too.
ReplyDeletenow you call that justice,
While I love to read your comments about things/people, I feel that you have done this family an injustice by identifying her as the deputy's stepchild. How does that comment protect her? You might as well have put her name in print. I feel that at the least you owe an apology to this mother and child.
ReplyDeleteAnother Anti Albero Blogger trying to cover up as someone else.
ReplyDeleteUP YOURS! No Names were given out and shame on you. I've given this far more coverage than the Daily Times.
Actually, when the Daily Times reported the incident they reported it as two 10 year old girls, one a step child.
ReplyDeleteI'm told there were actually three children, not two.
ReplyDeletethis post was about a protective order for a woman not the running of the wicomico county sheriff's dept. when cops are being cops there are bound to be scandals. bad guys dont like getting caught. perhaps it is the first time our deputies are being allowed to be the cops they were hired to be. not everyone likes riding around serving papers and just being visible it takes good police work to prevent crimes. as far as the money being spent its about time we are up to date this isnt mayberry anymore.
ReplyDeleteFunny thing is the scandals involve innocent people and families not criminals. It seems like everyone over there is sticking their thingy where it doesnt belong.
