Is There Any Good Reason To Work Hard For The Salisbury Fire Department?
The Mayor, Chief See & Deputy Chief (Chiefy Wanna Be) Gordy are up to their old tricks once again. Two promotions became available in the Salisbury Fire Department.
There were actually 4 Lieutenants that sat through the process and were leap frogged, but only two were actually eligible.
The two that were were actually eligible with more than 10 years service in the Salisbury Fire Department, (far more years than the two actually promoted) were Lorenzo Cropper and Larry Dodd.
The other two have been Lieutenants for 2 years and 3 years respectively. David Insley and Greg Hoppes.
The 4 lieutenants didn't even get the courtesy of a final interview after taking the Written Test and the Oral Review Boards. These promotions were definitely the good ole boy system.
The education criteria for Lieutenant states that you have to have 60 college credits or an associates degree. If you check the job description for Lieutenant you will see where it clearly states you must have an Associates Degree.
They allegedly made Darrin Scott sign an agreement that he will take English and some other classes. He bought 60 equivalent credits from somewhere because of the fire classes he has taken. That isn't enough to satisfy a colleges requirements for a degree.
He has never sat foot in a college or taken an actual college class. Some colleges may and I say MAY allow you to use some of those credits, not all of them. This was just a way to say that you had the "60 credits." They are in no way applied to a degree.
Might I add, if you're black, (like Lt. Lorenzo Cropper) you can forget a promotion from these boys! I watched their Power Point Presentation for these promotions and they said, (and I laughed) they were getting away from the Good Ol' Boy System. I personally think once the information gets out there on just how qualified and deserving these promotions were for Larry Dodd and Lorenzo Cropper people will become outraged at the end result! What say you now Shanie Shields? If I were in their shoes, with all the controversy going on relocating Station 16 to the West side of Town, I would have hired Lorenzo Cropper BEFORE anyone else to promote and encourage the black community to join the Volunteers on that side of Town! Instead, the black folks should read through the crap they're being dealt and refuse to participate working/volunteering for these honkies! LOL
Let's even see if Shanie plays the Race Card FOR THE RIGHT REASONS FOR ONCE on this situation?
I appreciate the info, but your story is written in a way that makes it somewhat hard to follow.
ReplyDeleteThe gist I get is that there were 4 applicants who were ALL "leapfrogged", or passed over for less qualified applicants.
Of the 4 applicants, 2 were eligible (Cropper & Dodd), and 2 (Insley and Hoppes) were part of the selection, but were not actually eligible.
Then you start writing about someone, previously not introduced, named Darrin Scott, and indicate he did not have have the educational requirements to considered for selection, and... what?
Your story is full of info, but a confusing goulash of facts.
Who was actually selected in the end for the two open promotions?
Was Darrin Scott one of these?
Why were Insley and Hoppes ineligible? Is it a specific requirement to have more than 10 years of service to even be considered?
Just an FYI Joe. The majority of classes we take through MFRI ( Maryland Fire Rescue Institute) are ACE accredited. I personally in the last year have taken classes that accumulate 15 semester hours and don't really fee like adding up all of my hours, I just used this last year as an example. So for someone like Darrin to get an agreement to go take Gen. Eds. is not uncommon. With all of the certifications he's picked up through the years, just getting his Gen. Eds. out of the way does qualify for an Associates degree. Now if he takes it further and works on few more credits he can receive a B.S. in fire science.
ReplyDeleteAs to the qualified persons "leap frogged" for the positions. It's a damn shame. I don't have a point to argue on that one. Even it I could find one I wouldn't argue, because no matter how you look at it, it's a sh*tty situation.
Just one request, get a new picture of See and Gordy, the one on your newest post on this issue is ready for retirement.
You're so one sided it's pathetic....you want it both ways. You condemn Shanie when she pulls it out but here you are displaying it.
ReplyDeletejoe that picture you put up is completely off line and poor choice of judgement on your part. I was at that fire and it was one of the hottest days of the year no one was just standing around doing nothing everyone was working there ass off at that fire and the picture you have up is during overhual. I also believe you used that picture to make the FD look good a few months ago now you are using it to bash us.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeleteHow in the hell do you get the idea I'm trying to use a photograph as stated to make the Salisbury Fire Department look bad?
Look, you Idiot, does the Post say anything about Fire Fighters sitting around? Nope, you're just one of those pansies who like to start trouble all the time within the Fire Department.
Some of the young men in the Fire Department act like little girls and talk shit just like you are here, creating a Soap Opera environment in the hopes of saying to another pansy, yeah, I really told that Albero off on his Blog.
Nope, you're a pansy posting under anonymous purposely changing the subject because you have nothing more to say. Get a life little boy.
first off i m not a person that starts anything in the fire house and i will say i misread the title of your article but i do feel like you have gone after the departments lately for no reasons
ReplyDeleteLet me explain this one last time for you, respectfully. Are you just a complete Idiot, or do you GET the idea that no matter how much time you put in there, under this administration and leadership, YOU'RE GOING NOWHERE?
ReplyDeleteWTF does it take for some of you Idiots to get it? There are two extremely qualified and dedicated Officers in the Department that DESERVE to be promoted. Then, there's a BLACK Officer that can help lead the way over at the new Station 16 where they need BLACK Fire Fighters and Volunteers and like retards, See & Gordy passed up a perfect opportunity.
I have said it about Chief Webster and I'll now say it about See & Gordy. Their LEADERSHIP SUCKS IMO and they should be replaced immediately.
Now if YOU can't get a clue as to what I'm trying to reference here with you, then I can't help you any longer. I, let me repeat, "I" think they made a huge mistake. It's MY Blog, it's MY opinion and as I welcome your opinion, be sure to know I will defend my position even when it comes to your trying to state I was attacking you with a photo. Try to also remember that's what you said, a photo, NOT a Title!
You call us idiot's, but our loyalty isn't to the administration. It's to our brother's and sister's, the citizen's we serve serve and their lives and property we're sworn to protect. If you had it your way and we all through our hands up and said "until the administration changes we're not responding" we would lose all respect from the people we serve. We take the good with the bad. Eat shit and keep on smiling. So no matter how much you try to shit on this department we will never back you in a battle against the administration.
ReplyDeletesalisbury fire is right....we go everyday and do what we do for our brothers and sisters. most probably dont agree with the admin. but thats not gonna keep the volunteers and career members from doing what we signed up to do. We signed up because we love the job not the money not how far it will take us in life because we love the job.

ReplyDeleteWhy do they specifically need 'black' firefighters? Don't they merely need qualified people to apply or volunteer, regardless of whether they are white, black or sky blue pink?
Actually not a bad article here. I have no complaints, good one Joe!
