Portland police deploy tear gas, declare riot after protester catches fire

Dramatic new video from Portland shows a protester catching on fire on Saturday night.

Shattered glass is heard out of frame before the camera pans to a man whose lower legs have ignited — and who frantically runs away from another small fire in the street near a police line in the city, according to the video uploaded by Twitter user Tayler Hansen.

As the man runs in panic and in flames, police can be heard declaring the protest a riot; they begin deploying tear gas.

Fellow protesters work to extinguish the burning man. Police in riot gear also rush toward the suffering man, but their offer of assistance was rebuffed.

  1. I’m fairly sure if you’re igniting Molotov cocktails full of Napalm you’re no longer protesting but rioting and are a terrorist

  2. Darwinism at work. What's the first thing you learned as a child if, God forbid, you caught on fire...stop, drop, and roll. I have zero sympathy for these people.

  3. Let them burn. Stand back and watch them burn like you did the city for 4 months.

  4. Roll all you want and flaming feet with an accelerant soaked into your shoes, socks and pants, that fire isn't going out. The oxygen source (air) needs to be removed from the equation.

    1. That is lesson #2. The idiots around him should have knocked his ass over, and smothered the flames...I still have zero sympathy for them. They reap what they sow.

  5. Michael Jackson could have used Feet On Fire as a cool video theme.

  8. Joe, I am waiting to see how see how WBOC Channel 16 reacts to a recent complaint filed against them and the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office for a Maryland Ethics violation! Wicomico County K-9 Deputy J.C. Richardson who owns the company Delmarva K-9 is in direct violation of the County Department he is working for! Him and his company are using County images to include the "Wicomico County Sheriff's Office" in his TV commercial for personal gain! I did not know the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office owns a substation at 4534 Timmons Road, Pittsville, Maryland 21850!! I have spoken with several different State and County entities about this complaint and it is a legal complaint that will be dealt with shortly. CEO J.C. Richardson has some explaining to do and reimbursements to pay back to Wicomico County for his theft of County Property!!

  9. A fine example Deputy J.C. Richardson is! This POS is just a County employee who collects a check for not doing squat! Always home on the clock conducting his personal business on the County Taxpayer's dime. What a joke he is in the law enforcement community! Ofcourse Worthless Wicomico County Sheriff Gloryhound is always gone out of state to make a dollar on the county taxpayer's backs who cares less about what his Deputies do or the crimes they commit!!! Lawlessness at the Sheriff's Office including his crooked administration!

  10. Gosh, there's rioting going on in Portland now? I was told they were just peaceful candlelight protest vigils.

Someone must have gotten some candle wax on their pants and boots.

    Oh, my!
