Man charged with series of assaults on Northern Virginia trails

A man has been arrested and accused of being the bicyclist who has assaulted people on various trails around Northern Virginia last month.

David Marlowe, 55, of Arlington, is facing numerous charges, including assault and battery, indecent exposure and felony possession with the intent to distribute marijuana. He was arrested at home on Sunday and is being held without bond at the Arlington County Detention Facility.

The Arlington County police have said the incidents happened between Aug. 11 and Aug. 29 on trails that are popular with cyclists and pedestrians, including Four Mile Run, the W&OD Trail and the Custis Trail.

In one incident on Four Mile Run, Marlowe is accused of approaching several people and yelling to stay on the right side of the yellow line. When the male victim yelled back, the cyclist approached and circled the victims on his bicycle before pulling down his shorts and exposing his rear end.

In another incident, a walker was hit with a bike; in another, a jogger was struck in the back of the neck.

The marijuana charges come as a result of a search at Marlowe’s home, the police said.

  1. Boy is lucky he didn’t run up on the right person (s). It’s a shame that they found him. David boy should be stretched out in the trail trying to craw home. The thing with this type person is they know who to safely pick on for themselves.

  5. Northwest Woodsman: Imagine your world free of the threat of negro violence constantly having to be considered when they are around. That was the eastern shore prior to 1965. When I graduated from high school in 1960, even California was 90% Caucasian. Now, it is like being in a third world country. It reminds me of a Larson cartoon depicting two wolves driving on a freeway with all the surrounding cars being driven by sheep! The quote was “Things have changed since we have been away”. Totally appropriate and true.i feel the same when I have been in LA in recent years and why I now avoid going there.

    1. That place you remember so fondly is gone. Never to return. Move forward, O Northwest Woodsman, leave that place behind, move forward, walk towards the light. You will be welcomed there by all of your white ancestors, but heads up, there will be black people there too.

    2. Yeah blacks will be there. But as usual they won't bring anything good with them. They never have.

  6. Northwest Woodsman: If I am fortunate enough to reach that place, don’t I get some say about who I associate with? I’d definitely prefer my German, Danish, English, Dutch, and Irish forebears. My vision of hell would be me being assigned to heavens version of Las Angeles!
