San Francisco ends mug shots release in bid to stem racial bias

San Francisco police will stop releasing the mug shots of people who have been arrested unless they pose a threat to the public, as part of an effort to stop perpetuating racial stereotypes, the city's police chief announced Wednesday.

Bill Scott, chief of San Francisco police, said the policy - which goes into effect immediately - means the department will no longer release booking photos of suspects to the media or allow officers to post them online.

Booking photos are taken when someone is arrested.

They are often made public whether or not the person is prosecuted for the alleged crime, which undermines the presumption of innocence and helps perpetuate stereotypes.

  1. Racial Stereotypes?

The fact is that most of the crime is committed by blacks!

    1. No dummy. Look up the FBI stats. The majority of all violent crimes are committed by whites. The majority of black men incarcerated are for nonviolent drug offenses. It’s you white men that are raping women, little kids and farm animals.

  3. Northwest Woodsman: A blatant attempt to hide what most of us know and assume already. Negros are responsible for an inordinate amount of crime compared to their numbers in our society. Undisputed fact so what is behind banning release of mug shots? Oh and by the way, why does it seem like most of e chiefs of police in our cities are negro? Protestors are attacking police departments where the chief is, himself a negro? How does that make any sense?

  4. It would save them money if they just posted all white defendants. Personnel could have a well deserved break too.

  10. Northwest Woodsman: Sorry 10:28 but negros make up but 13% of our population, however, they commit about 85% of all crimes and most are of a violent nature. The only (pardon the term) white collar crime is that is committed is generally by negro politicians. If you were to look at the Annual FBI Uniform Crime Report, it is startling, the number of violent crimes committed by such a small part of the population. Also, read “The Color of Crime”, (it’s online) and your narrative will be blown to pieces. I have randomly asked police officers in many jurisdictions who is responsible for most crime and invariably, they all state that in their towns or cities, about 85% is committed by negros. Imagine, if you will, what would happen if they were magically relocated to their ancestorial homelands. Our police, courts and basically the whole justice system would for the most part, be unnecessary. One can only hope.
