OC Boardwalk Curfew Not A Difficult Call

It’s time to put a curfew on the Boardwalk at midnight for a four-week period from late-May through mid-June. There is no reason not to impose the change to end the nonsense that has been occurring for years in Ocean City.

The assemblage of large groups of young people from other areas has brought a familiar set of serious crime incidents. Two stabbings and multiple fights have taken place within the past week. Though it brings outrage on social media and is a public relations disaster, the fact is these incidents have been occurring for many years in Ocean City. It’s nothing new, but it doesn’t have to be accepted either.

Emergency curfews are typically enacted for three reasons – natural disasters, public health crisis or ongoing civil disturbance. The latter will surely fit the bill for Ocean City’s Boardwalk.

There will be some practical enforcement issues with a curfew, but Ocean City can use historical data and the City Watch surveillance system to track hot spot areas. Logistical issues can be ironed out over time, but Ocean City does not need to simply tolerate these incidents any longer.

  2. I agree except the ones out causing the trouble aren't going to pay attention to a curfew.

  3. I disagree. It’s better to have the rowdies concentrated in an area bristling with cameras. We don’t need them dissipated throughout the town attending parties in residential areas.

  4. Curfews have no effect what so ever. Haven’t you been looking at the news? People clearly have no interest in compliance with a curfew and will only enrage people even more.

    1. Incorrect. It is a tool for LE that can be used very successfully once court proceedings occur. The idea that a curfew will resonate with some, but not others, which is the point. Those violating it can be immediately detained with no recourse.

  6. Hypocritical, you were just sharing memes about how it is communism to tell people when to stay inside. Typical Republican

  8. This is the right decision for OC and might be good for all the cities and towns that have had the riots, looting hurts everyone and violence should not be allowed that video on this blog said it all.

  9. If OC doesn't wake up. Do you see what's up with Seattle?? It's going to happen here. Keep pussy footing around OC. You'll have a much bigger problem you won't be able to handle.

  10. Our town knows only to react rather than being proactive.

Interesting mindset since every year the EXACT same functions take place.

One could surmise given a repetitory event schedule that lessons from prior years might be utilized for the future.

    But NOT in these parts!

    Why is it sooooooooooooooooo difficult?

Curfew is the result of the absence of common sense, public safety, people who cannot control themselves in society.

Police are TRYING to do their jobs. They have many tools and curfews are just one of them. Don't like curfews? Act like you have some damn sense so it won't be NECESSARY to impose them.

    1. Need to demote Meehan. The rank you give him is offensive to those who have and still serve.

"chaz" will be gone as quickly as it appeared. Not before more violence occurs there though. They are going to eat each other. Mark my words.
