GOP Senators to Trump: Reject ‘Blank Check’ Bailouts to State Governments

Several Republican senators wrote to President Donald Trump on Thursday, urging him to reject a “blank check” bailout to indebted states that would not help states’ response to the coronavirus outbreak.

Sens. Rick Scott (R-FL), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Ron Johnson (R-WI), Mike Lee (R-UT), and Mike Enzi (R-WY) urged Trump to reject any bailouts for state and local governments in a future bailout bill.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said on Thursday that a future spending package would need $1 trillion to bail out state and local governments.

  3. I agree Trump should reject / block / veto any BILL that would bailout the States with irresponsible Democrat socialist as leaders. No other State tax payer should be responsible for another States irresponsible debt. If Pelosi and the Democrats want this then they should donate their millions to bail them out and don't expect me to pay more taxes for hypocrites that can't add 1+1 = 2 or 2 - 4 = -2

  4. So, we're just gonna ignore all the states that voted for Trump that take in more federal dollars than they pay in federal taxes? Because if states got a net zero from the fed gov't ($ paid in = $ paid out) your precious red states would be the ones in trouble and NY and CA would be just fine.

  5. A good chunk of it would go to state underfunded retirement plans only to have that money raided later and placed into the general fund for 'pet peve' projects!!

  6. Get ready for limited policing, fire protection, trash removal, delayed building and zoning permits, health inspections, road and highway maintenance, etc. etc.
