County Wants To Allow Restaurants With Outdoor Dining To Begin Service

SNOW HILL – The Worcester County Commissioners voted unanimously Thursday to send a letter to the governor seeking permission to allow outdoor dining throughout the county.

The commissioners will immediately work with the Worcester County Health Department on creating social distance protocols and sanitary measures to ensure the greatest level of safety. These measures will be included in the letter sent to the governor’s office.

The commissioners held an emergency meeting today via Zoom to discuss a number of relevant matters after Gov. Larry Hogan moved the state into the first phase of his reopening plan. The commissioners first voted unanimously to allow, as Ocean City did one hour before, lodging rentals throughout the county to resume.

Whether the commissioners even need to seek the governor’s permission to allow outdoor dining is unclear at this time, but the commissioners were united in the desire to send a letter to the governor first before allowing outdoor dining at establishments set up for it throughout the county.

  1. Watch the cases in Worcester County soar in the coming weeks! Condos didn't do deep cleans and I'm sure hotels didn't either!

    1. No one has been in any rentals in two months! Why would they need to be 'deep cleaned' and 'sanitized' if no one has been in them for over 8 weeks! Please explain why they would need a deep clean. Waiting to hear your logical explanation for it!!

  3. I personally don’t have a dog in this hunt but when the boardwalk was opened up and there was that long line of people for French fries and numerous amounts of people not social distancing on the boardwalk.....it is going to make the powers that be wonder how outdoor dining will be able to enforce social distancing unless the restaurant has a HUGE parking lot and takes reservations. Not just having people pop in and try to figure out where to put them.
There is no doubt people will show up but who will be able to control the crowds if you don’t have reservations?

    1. You should see it today!! Mother's Day was nothing compared to today. I really hope our hospital numbers don't go up and up and they turn around and shut us down again. I can see that happening in the future. I think we need to start opening, but people are going crazy!!!

  4. How about letting adults decide for themselves whether they want to open their business or if they choose to dine out? This is all insane. Open everything back up and if you’re afraid wear a mask or stay home.

  7. Why is it that no one has a problem going to the grocery store, but some have a problem with people walking outside on the boardwalk or wanting to enjoy a meal at a restaurant(inside or out)?

  9. 309...as long as u and the other adults out there are not sick....have at it. But until u know otherwise, enough with ur way or the highway. You are 1 of at least 310 million, nothing more...nothing less. By the way, I bet u would be really pissed if someone infected you. This isn't the flu and after 120 days we still have zero clue about this invisible threat. A threat modern day has never come up against.

    1. 4:28 It is similar to the annual flu that kills thousands each year. Actually the country is right on track with the yearly death count. Nobody can prove shutting the country down helped at all in saving lives. But it sure can be proven how shutting the country down caused thousands and thousands, maybe millions to lose their jobs, homes, vehicles, businesses, insurance, etc, etc, ruining the best economy ever. I'm sixty five and I'll take my chances on being free and making my own decisions.

    2. The country now is on the historical death count but I would bet on the unknown. If this is nothing WHY a 3 TRILLION dollars bailout (passed by Congress and signed by our Prez) that didn't help with all the problems, gave big business millions, probably another 3 TRILLION plan soon and in a couple months trying to open will be a thing of the past. And a HUGE bill we all will pay.

It's not about today anymore....it is about tomorrow...but keep bitchin about our rights...when we all STILL ALIVE will pay.

      Bigger Picture indeed.

  10. Really people ? Your worried about eating out. I know it's your freedom to do so and not be denied. I have found though working at home and not driving or paying for dry cleaning and having to schlep my ass to work in a starched shirt and tie our whole concept of work and the " Work Place " is really out dated. Restaurants that have kept their kitchens open for pick up and delivery are finding they are over invested in table real estate. If you have a good product a lot of money is wasted on staff ambiance and the " Dining Experience " which does not amount to much around here. I am more worried about skilled tradesman out of work than bar maids burger and taco servers. Those are college kid jobs and they have all gone home. It's not enough to be a Conservative these days in notions and beliefs alone you have to made something of yourself. Hangers on are no better than welfare recipients with inflated opinions and nostalgic notions and no idea what the present modern economy is and what is to come.

    2. 4:41 Every job is essential in a thriving economy. People earn money then spend that money. Very simple economics, not to mention the needed taxes being collected for our infrastructure and government to operate.

  12. People--if you are one of the 'concerned' that things are opening back up, use your personal liberties and freedoms guaranteed to you by the UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION to stay the heck home!!! And allow those who chose to move forth as guaranteed by that same constitution to do so without your constant grief about it. JUST STAY HOME. If I chose to go out i will take any risk that involves. You just do you and stop worrying bout everyone else.

  13. 4:28. Look at the death numbers. They are basically the same as last years numbers. You are being conned. Old people in nursing homes are a concern but everyone else has a 99% chance of not dying. Pull your self together and stop listening to main stream media and start asking yourself questions. Why isn’t everyone at Walmart and grocery stores dying? Why aren’t the homeless dying? Why are the hospitals empty?

  14. 99% of the people died were in nursing homes so if the governors were so concerned for their welfare why didn’t they have mandatory temperature testing at the entrances?

  15. 428pm...your right its not the flu....not even close to the flu. But because youve been brainwashed with fear you cant think logically and youd rather spread your fear. You dont care about anyone but yourself.

  16. Outdoor dining is not included in this step and local areas cannot decide this on their own. They can make rules stricter but not looser. It’s not that hard to read and understand the order. No malls, hair but no other services, 50% capacity in shops and carry out or delivery ONLY for restaurants.

Because they are braindead fools who have sunk so low in life that they allow themselves to be brainwashed. For almost 2 months we crowded in the stores that were open most not even wearing masks until it became mandatory. There were zero breakouts attributed to the stores. Many understand but we are surrounded by too many who are products of the dumbed down US public "education" system and they don't have the ability to think much less think things through.

  20. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Politicians on both sides of the aisle are only concerned about the election and their own agendas and ZERO about the American public. Pretty pathetic that neither can swallow their pride for the what's in the best interest for this country.

  21. The biggest threat we have in this country today is our own government and the the NWO crowd like Bill Gates. This is not about your safety or a virus. WAKE UP people. When they arrest people for going to church or not wearing a mask but you can go to a crowded Walmart or Home Depot. You must realize there is more going on than meets the eye. This is a government power grab and a small taste of Socialism. And the media has put fear in everyone minds for the past 3 months 24/7. If it wasn't for the media blowing this up. It would have been like any other year with the flu. No stay at home or quarantines and the economy would still be booming.
