Chinese students at Miami University donate 5,000+ protective masks

Miami University students from China have donated more than 5,000 protective masks in the Oxford area to health workers, the police and some Miami employees.

Hanzhou Zhang, a senior computer science major leading the effort, said their most recent donation of about 2,000 masks was made to Miami’s Student Health Services to distribute as needed.

Zhang said he and several other Chinese students are living in Oxford in a couple of residence halls that remain open on Miami’s campus. As the pandemic spread, China reduced most flights between there and the United States, making it difficult for the students to fly home. He said parents also worried about their children potentially getting infected on the flights.

Zhang — a teaching assistant in the department of computer science and software engineering — said he has enjoyed being a student at Miami.

“Miami offers many opportunities for students to be successful,” he said, adding that he conducted research with one of his professors.

Zhang said he plans to attend the University of Southern California to pursue a master’s degree in cyber security engineering.

  8. Did you notice that Zhang is a computer science (and engineering) major, has done 'research projects' with one of his professors, and plans to continue studying cyber-security engineering at USC?

This is a Chinese national. At least one of his professors is too.

Is there any chance this is one of the many Chinese 'students' that are gathering up our technology to use against us?

  9. 832 - oh come on.

Stating the same terminology other countries would say about us is not racist!

Go out and get some fresh air - maybe head the OC boardwalk and mingle closely with others.

  10. The masks were pretested too. They were put on a very sick person who coughed in them to make sure no chunks flew out.

  11. Northwest Woodsman: More potential Chicom spy’s in the making. They are our ENEMY, so why are we so stupid as to allowing them into our country and let them work on highly technical research projects at our major educational institutions and then illegally transfer that research data to the communist Chinese military and government? Oh, maybe it is the millions of dollars the university’s receive each year from China. Oh man, how I wish we could return to the 1950s and do a reset.

  12. They are not technology spies they are cultural ones. They are probably better educated technically than their teachers here.
