A Viewer Writes: Illegal Unemployment?

I am very annoyed about a business in Salisbury. There are atleast 3 employees collecting unemployment and still working. They are not collecting an hourly wage, but are working the bar for takeout and whatever. They are collecting tips, but is screwing the govt and the people by getting hundreds in tips while collecting a crap load of unemployment. The owner literally just sent out a message 30 mins ago that said that the employees that do not plan on coming back to not file for unemployment from May 14th through August to avoid penalties. First of all they cant go back anyway and most of them want to come back. And May 14th was 8 days ago. I am pissed about this and don't know the right way to approach it.

  3. My suggestion would be don’t get upset because you’re not working the bar this weekend you’re not a bartender sweetheart. It’s not their fault we’ve opened up the dock bar you’re upset because you’re not getting the tips tell the truth and Joe make sure you post this

    What does this mean?
    What penalties?
There are no penalties - unless he got a PPP loan

  7. First of all I have no skin or dog in this. Not familiar with who is twisting your drawers. Secondly, there is no such thing as a crap load of money from unemployment. Third, I bet the worker is not making a killing drawing both wage’s and “ govment “ money (OPM).. Lastly, I guess I do have skin in this because of paying taxes to help cover the government. But, just in my humble opinion I would much rather this earner benefit from our taxes than a illegal or politician. You do know how illegals work the system. As far as politicians, you did notice the scam ran on Russia and impeachment etc. that they blew millions on of (OPM), Not to mention cash the last failed dude gave Iran along with Fancy Nancy running to and from her three tours in DC and mansion. Been doing it long enough to retire three times but like others, stay and steal. Sorry, I could continue but you get my drift. Let the small tator’s be, I hope they find a way to get a tad more.

    That's an option, anyway.

  12. there are always aholes taking advantage of every situation. let it be and find someone to work for who isn't such a scumbag. I agree no sense in being a government tattle tale. They will answer when they meet the Lord. In the meantime karma is a real bitch.

  14. I agree with some of the others-mind your own business. Obviously you are not in "survival mode" like some of us are. People are doing what they have to do to survive and people like you need to shut up and leave them alone.

  17. Its not the owners fault he needs people to help run his business . The fault lies with the lying stinking sell out fraud Nancy pelosi and the democrat house

  18. Well, if he got a PPP loan, he's supposed to be using that to pay the employees. Then, they shouldn't be on unemployment. But I'm sure those employees are enjoying that extra $600 per week that they are also getting from the government.

  19. All of a sudden trump cult members believe we should taddle on people to big government because other people are temporarily getting more money than usual (based on taxes they already pay for it)...snowflake

  21. If I am reading the post correctly, employees are working, but claiming unemployment so the employer isn’t paying them their hourly wage. Correct? Plus, in addition to unemployment they’re earning tips for working at their place of employment while fraudulently collecting unemployment as instructed by the owners of the bar?

  24. These people should be commended for working for FREE to try to help the business they worked for survive this. If the only money they are getting is from people out of the goodness of their heart then what is the problem? How much do you REALLY think they are making in carry out tips? Why would you not be more upset about the Salisbury panhandlers, who are probably also on every government program invented? I wish I worked with people as dedicated to their job as these. It is a testament to the owner/management that their employees are willing to do this. To all the businesses owned by anonymous Karens like the poster: THIS IS WHY YOU TAKE CARE OF YOUR EMPLOYEES! It will pay you back when YOUR chips are down. Anonymous commenter, get a life.

    1. "Take care of your employees" yeah take care of them by not paying them an hourly wage while working. At this point they would make more money on an hourly wage than the tips coming in. You can comment all you want, but you truly have no idea.

  26. Seriously. Mind your own business. This happens all over all the time. Not just in this situation we are in.. Keeps small business alive in many cases.
    Let it go!

  27. You can collect if your hours are reduced and you are not making what you would normally. Like everyone else has been saying “mind your own business” clearly you don’t have to work, let me guess retired teacher, government employee and have no understanding what this is doing to people and businesses. And by the way these workers are also in the frontline and they deserve our respect now go away!

  30. Send very detailed certified letters requiring signatures at delivery, to the state attorney general’s office, the governor’s office, the dept of labor licensing and regulation, and all local tv stations. Make sure you list all recipients as cc on the letters so each party knows who else is receiving copies.
This might make enough people squirm to get some action.

  31. Unemployment does have a fraud unit that handles issues like this. The employer should be concerned since his experience rating and unemployment rate will go up with more people filing, but either a seasonal business, he may already be paying the max. You can report the fraud anonymously at 1 800 492 6804 Monday- Friday 8 am to 4 pm. The people filing fraudulently may bu subject to fines, overpayment, denials of unemployment benefits and may face prosecution.

  32. The upside of it for them is they don't have to work and their collecting more than they made when they were working we will have more people on unemployment, freeloaders, disability people not really disabled, and homeless than ever in this country and the few that are working, and those that worked all their lives and living on Social Security now watch all these raking in more $ and we can thank the Democrats for all of it. But watch out folks the gravy train doesn't last forever.

  33. How do you know those employees are not reporting their tips? They can still qualify for reduced unemployment if their income is less than it was before the shutdown. Mind your own business! And, no, I don’t collect unemployment bc I am lucky to still be working.

  34. All of a sudden your concerned about fraudsters ? How about all the able bodied people around here on SSI Disability parking in handicap spots and climbing in and monster trucks and loading up lumber at Lowes etc. We all know a few and they are proud of it and working under the table waving the flag and pretending to be better than the same people on welfare they disparage.

  35. so nosy rosy how do you know what the person is getting paid? personally i lie all the time about what i make, It's nobodies business of what others make or what they are getting. Maybe they told you a load of crap to get you worked up. If i worked with you i would be feeding you so much crap and from a silver spoon, you would stay pissed off 24/7 and not know which end was up. Karen mind your own business.

  36. It is others' business if you are working and not reporting tips it to the IRS at tax time. Where do you think that unemployment money comes from? However, the big problem is with the IRS and tax code. Both need an overhaul.
