Pensacola shooter identified as Saudi national in US for aviation training

The man who opened fire at the Pensacola naval base Friday was a member of the Saudi military who was receiving aviation training, the base commander has revealed.

Authorities are investigating whether the deadly shooting, who multiple reports are identifying as Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani, is terror-related, reports said.

The unidentified gunman killed at least three people and injured eight at Naval Air Station Pensacola in a classroom at the Florida flight training base before being shot dead by sheriff’s deputies.

His weapon was a handgun, officials said.

He was a Saudi national and aviation student, the base commander, Capt. Tim Kinsella, told reporters during an afternoon press conference.

  2. I have a friend there who recently graduated from the Naval Academy. He too is in flight school there and his class was running late. When he arrived there today to that very building he pulled up and everyone was running out of the building. To think he could've been there right smack in the middle of this horrific incident. Prayers go out to those families who lost a loved one.

  4. What the hell is a Saudi doing in an air wing training program in the first place. Didn't we learn anything from 9/11? Use common sense, not politics. Dumb and it's our own fault.

  9. Training programs exist for countries we sell hardware to and have as long as we have exported military equipment.
Unfortunately we have to be in bed with the Saudis to control them.
