AT&T forcing American workers to train their replacements

AT&T is forcing American workers to train their replacements, be it foreigners through an outsourcing partner or cheaper domestic workers, according to Axios.

As many as 3,000 finance jobs were being outsourced to Accenture by AT&T, which also has deals with IBM and Tech Mahindra, according to the report, noting all three are among the top 10 companies to request H-1B skilled worker visas in 2019.

"We are continuously working to be more efficient in our operations," AT&T's Jim Kimberly told Axios, adding AT&T is "helping employees find other positions within the company."

  1. Another Boing 737 tragedy in the making.. foreign workers (programmers) who don’t understand the end result required... They need to understand more than basic English words (pigeon English)..

  2. This happened to me back in 2008 when my job was outsourced to India. I was forced to train them for a year and was told I had nothing to worry about because they still needed local support for repair services.

I was a help desk technician. I did fix and repair of Laptops, Desktops, and Printers as well as phone support and remote assistance for software problems. Of course they lied to me. When the training was considered finished, they laid me off. The repair services were also sent to them.

To this day I hate all corporations, and I try to only support local businesses and establishments whenever and where ever possible. I only shop at a corporate establishment only as a last resort.

I blame our government for this mess and their free trade policies. Our company was even given tax credits from our government to send hour office jobs to India and our manufacturing jobs first to Mexico, and then to China!

Have you tried application with NASA ?

You appear to have enormous skills they seek.

One of our family members applied , and after lengthy background she was hired.

They are based out of Fort Meade, and she lives here on the Shore.

      have a great New Years

  3. BFD , this has been going on for many years , with most companies . So what the big deal? Who do expect to train them? How the hell can someone train them if they don't have experience?

No but I applied with the State Of Maryland.

I'm not making as much, but I am doing similar work and will hopefully be able to finish out my remaining working years so I can at least have some kind of retirement and a small pension.

Lesson learned after wasting 25 years in a corporate job!

    Your an idiot!

    2008 started the great recession.
Many of the Office and Production jobs were eliminated.

I was told if I didn't do this, I would be out of a job sooner and was given the assurance that my job would not be eliminated because they still needed local support for the company and our other divisions in other states.

At that time it was only phone support for both software and password administration support. I had a family to support and two young children. I had a decent income for the shore. I was quietly looking for other employment. Only a fool would quit a job without something else lined up.

Good Jobs here on the shore are few and far between. My wife was also employed full time and her job was secure. I wasn't about to uproot my family and go somewhere else unless there would be a new job waiting for me. All the service Techs at IBM had their jobs eliminated and then were rehired by IBM as a contractor.

It was honestly the worst year of my life. I went to work every day not knowing if that was the day I was going to be let go. Towards the end, it was a relief to be finally be laid off.

I had many friends and associates that were like a second family to me. I saw how the corporation sucked the life out of them and some of them were dead within a year after being let go after over 30 plus years of dedicated service to a company the really didn't give a shit about their employees!

And guess who bought us out? It was Bain capital, the same company that Mitt Romney owned! They were quietly buying up and closing plants left and right. Many of them were successful companies.

So try and think first before you make a stupid comment!
I had a family to support and it wasn't the best of times to start looking for another job. Eventually I landed back on my feet through the support of family and my church family. In the end it's family and friends that count.

I wouldn't worry about what others say to you. People always have good advice, for others. They talk a good game until something actually affects them and then it's a different story.

I have lived and worked in different areas, cities, states, and it was a common practice to train others, even ones who would eventually replace me, for whatever reason.
