'Indisposed due to illness': Ruth Bader Ginsburg absent from Supreme Court

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg missed oral arguments before the Supreme Court on Wednesday.

She is "indisposed due to illness," Chief Justice John Roberts said at the start of proceedings. She intended to participate in the consideration of the cases by reading briefs and transcripts, Roberts added.

Ginsburg, 86, is the oldest member of the court and the anchor of its liberal bloc. She has survived four bouts of cancer. If she were to die or retire, President Trump would have the opportunity to appoint a third justice to the high court, potentially cementing a 6-3 conservative majority for decades to come.

  1. I certainly don't wish the justice arm, but another conservative on the bench would certainly finish a transformation of the court.

  3. Because we all know she's already dead, the deep state just doesn't want Trump to be able to put another conservative judge on board.

  4. Of course the dumbocrats will say it's unfair for Trump to put someone on the court in the last 4 years of his term.

  11. Northwest Woodsman: Does anyone think that this ultra liberal, I’ll, aged woman can make rational decisions that effect all of us? How about the probability that her Marxist democrat liberal law clerks are really running her show. Hopefully, President Trump will have the opportunity to appoint a reasonable conservative who believes in the constitution in the near future.

  12. The dems will keep her on life support until Trump wins, or loses, the next election. Guaranteed. They will not let Trump replace her. The deep state will cease to exist without the lock on the SCOTUS.
