In a time when most of us would acknowledge that there is practically nothing that everyone can agree on, there is one thing – especially here on the Eastern Shore during the summer months – which we would say contradicts that common belief.
Congestion stands as one of the greatest threats to the nation’s economic well-being and quality of life. Maryland residents are no stranger to this threat, especially when scaled down to the regional impact of this dirty word regarding the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
The structure once symbolized new opportunity and connectivity across the Bay. Now, it symbolizes more of a melting pot for commuters, truck drivers, beach-travelers, and others to sit in traffic together for hours on end.
By now you’ve most likely heard that the Maryland Transportation Authority (MdTA) and the Federal High Administration (FHWA) have narrowed down the prospective third-span choices with corridors identified for new bridge build options.

ReplyDeleteDon't worry, Hogan has proposed a new bus system to bus all the people to OC instead of building a new bridge. Just google it.
ReplyDeleteYa know, in Mass. when traffic starts to back up on their toll road they waive the toll and wave vehicles thru until the backup goes away. Ppl get to where they are going faster, traffic is eased, less road rage and accidents. Sure the state may lose a few bucks from missed tolls but everyone's day got better.
ReplyDeleteI know it's hard to imagine Md. doing something like this, for one reason it makes too much sense. Maybe they could try it and reduce miles long backups?
Or swim in the Bay and never cross the bridge to begin with.

Oh yes, a thirst that never is quenched.
The need is not for a new bay bridge, it's for another destination. The bridges we already have can consume every available parking spot in OC. Just try to go there during the Air Show. Now, OC doesn't really care if you go there as long as you send your money there. The last thing they want is competition.
ReplyDeleteI unfotunaltly have to comute ovr the bay since jobs here pay s#$$t. The 3 locations under consideration are to far north. The curent booths go from 3 lanes to 15 booths or so to 2 lanes..thats the bottle neck.
ReplyDeleterobert moses purposely built the roads (northern state and southern state parkways) leading from queens out to the long island beaches with low overhead bridges just to keep the buses from bringing riffraff from NYC out to the beaches! a man way ahead of his time!
