Valedictorian says school cut his commencement speech because he's gay

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. —The valedictorian for the 2019 Sheboygan Lutheran High School senior class says administrators banned him from speaking at commencement because of his sexual orientation.

Nat Werth told WISN Friday that when he turned in his commencement speech draft on May 20, administrators told him they were concerned.

"When the administration looked at my speech, I think they were looking for me to misstep, to say something so that I couldn't give my speech at graduation," Werth said. "Deep down, I knew that they didn't trust me."

The following is an excerpt from Werth's commencement address, addressing his sexuality:

  1. I hope that is true. Thank God we still have some school administrators with good sense.

Society is wrong to normalize gay sex. Wake up, Weirdos!

  4. I suspect the reaction would have been the same had he wanted to talk about how many girls he nailed too.

God did not make him the way he is. Unbelief and it's consequences can be found in Romans 2:24 through 32
24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, that their bodies might be dishonored among them.
25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen
For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function, for that which is unnatural.
27 and in the same way also the man abandoned the natural function of the women and burned in desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.
28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper,
29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips,
30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,
    31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful;
32and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.
I think this pretty much sums up what is happening in our morally depraved world today.

  7. On the books - a smart kid...straight A's....

In the real world - moron liberal loser that wants to force his lifestyle on everyone else!

If you had kept your lifestyle to yourself (and your boyfriend!) and spoke about the benefits of studying leading to a great college and a better job, you could probably have given your speech... Now you're nothing but a self-proclaimed victim.

You're lucky that they let you graduate - even if you had stayed word for word with your originally submitted draft, you would have been showing blatant disrespect for the institution that you are leaving.

Yup - they did the right thing!

  8. Why should any in attendance have to hear him spout off about his personal preferences?

In today's world those with odd dietary habits or non-heterosexual practices are keen to make sure you're fully informed about them as soon as you're introduced and they can commandeer your ear.

    Thank you, school district!

  9. Northwest Woodsman: Many great comments. I’m unable to add any further comment on this person and his agenda. The school administration was absolutely correct in their actions.

  11. Sex, or sexual orientation is not what a commencement speech is about. If that's what defines his life, then it is a sad reflection on his educational achievements. Most Valedictorians would speak of all the hard work to get to where he was standing, and speak of his hopes for the future. There would be thanks to all the mentors in his life that helped him along the way. But Noooo, he wants to talks about his sexual orientation. For all his high educational achievements, he didn't learn a thing. If all he thinks about is what kind of sex he likes, then he has a mental problem. Nobody cares what kind of sex he likes, nor do they care what kind of sex I like. Trying to make a commencement speech about it was rejected, and rightfully so. It would have reduced the ceremony to a gutter occasion.
