Salisbury Maryland Mayoral Candidate Denied Access To Amphitheater Because It's A Political Event

"Called city hall today about having the rally and they said I will probably get denied the amphitheater because my event is political. Weren't there LGBT parades, pro-abortion rallies in the park? Isn't a political rally a first amendment right of free speech? Supposedly, Jake is one of the decision makers. I asked them for a law or statute that says I can't do a political event and the woman rushed me off the phone; she said she had to find out."

Let's keep in mind that it was the City Taxpayers who paid for that amphitheater. Jake should WELCOME any person who chooses to challenge him. IF he is so liked, what's he got to worry about? IF they rig the election, (cough, cough) what's he got to worry about?

Having a challenger brings forth new ideas, something Jake and staff desperately need anyway, just like Ireton did in the past. You know, you can swim in the river within 10 years, how's that working for you folks!

Of course you'll never read about the above denial in any of the other news outlets. That's what makes SBYNews so important to this community. I guess they're not lying if they simply don't cover stories where the LIBERALS are cheating the system.

  2. Going door to door has a big effect also.Get your ideas out there. We need maturity and governance in City Hall.

  3. Then let's have a protest in front of the gov building ?

  4. 7:52, Going door to door is a load of crap. Salisbury, (Maryland) hasn't purged their voter registrations in over 25 years. Do you have ANY idea just how many of those people have either died or moved? The registration list is a load of crap and there are very few people who are registered to even vote in Salisbury. With an 80% rental population, a LIBERAL media and the possibility of the election being rigged, the odds of getting through to the proper voters is slim to none. Holding an event like this one is one of the only ways to get truly interested people to hear your platform/ideas.

  5. Hold the rally anyway, what are they gonna do arrest a citizen who has as much right there as the next guy?

That is why it takes a smart person to see and why I call all of you here in SBY stupid becasue you don't get it, you can't see it... WTF are you talking about? Oh Yeah, learn to spell also, people may take you more seriously!!

  8. First of all this is not really a story unless you really are denied the use of the amphitheater. So far it’s just one persons opinion and she said she would find out for you. Anxiously awaiting to hear the final decision instead of speculation.

  9. I vote for 8:22. HOLD THE RALLY ANYWAY. It seems conservatives are becoming the radicals and that's ok. Hold the rally anyway.

  10. Protest with signs outside the gov building.

  12. So essentially we have no decision on the matter yet? You're all getting your panties twisted up on some speculation lol

  13. Then Jake best not do the State of the City speech there. JS.

  14. If the decision has not been made yet, call city hall in protest. Light up their switchboard.

    OK Jake.

He applied a while ago for the venue and no one else is asking for that date. Why no answer from City Hall? What are they waiting for? If the venue was open when he applied, and it was, it should have been approved immediately. He paid the fee and completed the app. Whats the hold up?

It is property of the citizens, we paid for it and there is NO verbiage on the application that you can not hold a political rally there.

Tick Tock - What are you waiting for? Going to approve it last minute so he can not get the rally put together in sufficient time? Is that the strategy? Or add on more "restrictions" that others would not have to meet and make it too cumbersome to hold?

Can block an intersection and hold a rainbow painting party for a minority few - which is viewed as a political issue but can't approve a rally on taxpayer land?

    Typical Smallsbury.

  16. Amen on the voter registration fiasco in Wicomico/Salisbury. We moved away 3 years ago. I got a jury summons for Wicomico. I called the jury office and they were as kind as efficient as always and removed me from any future lists. They suggested that I call the election office as well. Guess what? You have to appear in person the lady there told me. That's not going to happen. I was lucky to get out of there alive as it was haha. And we wonder why elections nationwide can't be trusted.

  17. Unless there is a law they can't stop you from having a rally, we the tax payers did pay for the Amphitheater even though we did not get to vote on it or the site. Also in front of the Government Building is an alternative, make sure there are lots of announcements of the rally, and make sure the news media do cover it. I would make sure there is a debate on TV maybe even a debate 1 & 2 make Jake squirm show the people what you would be doing so they can compare his selfie meetings with no agenda and no clarity. You will have no problem at all getting elected the more the people see and hear you. Jake never was a candidate he ran unopposed is the only way he got the election. And he has been a complete disaster, and so out of touch a five year old could beat him. Have the facts and the answers it will be that easy. The peoples best wishes are with you, we need a real mayor not a child.

  19. Well, I called and they do not have an answer for me. They said next Tuesday. The event meeting was 2 days ago. So, why don't they have an answer??? If they deny me, I told them I want Jake to call and give me the bad news. Don't make your picket signs just yet. Yet....

  23. Joe, I was just on PAC-14's web page and saw the Wicomico County Council Budget Work Session for Thursday, May 23, 2019 and it can be found on the link below.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDSSMKJzHgA

At about 35:40 John Cannon is saying that he sits on a lot of City Boards and that the County should kick in and help pay for Jake Day's National Folk Festival. What the HELL is he talking about. Because Salisbury is the largest municipality in Wicomico County he said the taxpayers should fund the Folk Festival. Then at 36:35 Josh Hastings said he was going to bring that up and that it was embarrassing that the County doesn't help fund the Folk Festival. Then later on, of all people, Marc Kilmer said he would agree to pay the Folk Festival $10,000 if they cut $15,000 from the Elections Board. WTH?? Our so-called Conservative councilman wants to cut a county core function and waste $10,000 on a Ghetto Fest. Good darn thing he is leaving. This is crazy that our council members want to give anything to the City for the Foke Festival. It's not a county event. How much does the City of Salisbury kick in for the Wine Festival, the Good Beer Festival, the girls Softball tournament, the County Fair? How much does Salisbury kick in for the County?? NONE!! Joe this is a comment worthy of a post. Click on the video and watch it yourself.

  24. You should attend every council meeting from now until the election. Sure you can watch them online but what fun is that

  25. Please pursue this. Make them show you in policy procedure or bylaws that it can not be used for political or partisan reasons...Green fest was just there and totally partisan hippie event . If they do show it too you make it non partisan simply by making it a get out the vote event add a table for voter registration and invite Jake! Play this game with them and get your name out there with your views.

  26. If you want to be a politician, you have to get used to politics and political power, even at the local level. No use crying about it.

    1. So going to a news outlet is considered “ crying about it “? I’m pretty sure that is party of politics. What would your solution to the crooked government ways be?

  27. Didn’t we close a city street for Julia glanz’s wedding? So er can accommodate a private citizen’s event but cannot accommodate a political event!?!

    2. So talking to a news outlet about an unethical corrupt local government is being the “victim “? So I guess everyone and everything in a paper or news story are victims, and if they are ,for the sake of argument, how is a victim help his cause!

I do not see where anyone called him a victim. I see typical Salisbury political dirty laundry being publically aired. As it should be.

  30. I admire and outsider coming in but does he realize that this in not a conventional municipality with normal and legal transparency, balanced budgets and public disclosure ? It's age old local cronyism and assumed entitlement that does not fly in real incorporated and responsible communities in the modern world. I wish him luck.

  32. Be glad that these are the rules. If they weren't in place, incumbents would have campaign stickers on all city vehicles, signs on every city property and campaign speeches in the park, the zoo and everywhere the city maintains.
Do your campaigning in a neutral spot. This will be one of your first challenges.

  33. I agree with 2:09
There has been nothing modern conventional or responsible with local governing or politics here EVER. The old guard died off and it was picked up by another whole generation of opportunists that yet again made off and left the people holding the bag in a crumbling once respectable community with bullshit development and real estate whores. Now look at the place. It's as charming and civilized as Glen Burnie LOL.
Yeah I said IT ! When are the rest of you going to wake up and stand up too or are you so stupid you like it this way ?

  35. This is the same old game the Left is playing to control the voices and minds of the people. The city park is a public place and people get permits to have all sorts of events there. If Salisbury does not have a law on record as to why this guy should be denied a permit then their attorney better have a good excuse to offer.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Bring on another candidate and let’s find us a new mayor who will make the changes in critical commands and set this city back on the right path.

  37. look back since it was opened. What events has been held there so far? Who as spoken? any body in politics? elected in any office? This will give you your answer. a Precedent has already been set. If they do not let Wayne speak there then they must stop any other person in politics from speaking there. Whats the point of spending the money for it, if it can't be used?

  38. I don't know if you people realize it or not, the Bennett High School and all Wicomico County Schools are owned by Wicomico County and the sole authority over those properties are the Wicomico County Executive and the Wicomico County Council.

On Saturday night when Jake Day ordered the Salisbury Police and the Salisbury Fire Department to escort the Bennett baseball team to the high school, Jake Day was completely out of line. The Salisbury Police Department has no authority or jurisdiction on county school property unless they are requested by the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office. The Salisbury Fire Department has no authority or jurisdiction on county school property unless they are dispatched by Wicomico Central for an emergency. Jake Day has no kids on that baseball team. Jake Day is not a parent or an employee of the school system. Jake Day has no business being on school property after ours, therefore, Jake Day is trespassing and should be investigated and arrested for trespassing. Therefore the police officers and firemen that were on Wicomico County school property that night should be investigated for trespassing as well. Jake Day and each of those police officers and fireman should be issued No Trespassing notices and barred from school property in the future.

They are not above the law!
