Divided OC Council Approves Budget With Modest Tax Hike; Council Members Exchange Jabs Before Vote

OCEAN CITY — Resort officials this week approved the fiscal year 2020 budget on first reading, but not before a somewhat heated and philosophical debate about the property tax rate, which, depending on sematics, will go up for some this year.

At the conclusion of a marathon budget wrap-up session last month, the Mayor and Council had a decision to make on the tax rate for fiscal year 2020. For years, it has been the council’s policy to set the property tax rate at the constant yield, or a rate which generates the same amount of municipal funding needed to maintain the same level of services and programs as the prior year.

When the fiscal year 2020 budget was first presented back on April 2, the property tax rate was set at the constant yield rate of .4585, which is actually lower than the fiscal year 2019 constant yield rate of .4656 because property assessments were flat or even declines slightly in some cases during the latest assessment cycle.

  6. 6:07 PM maybe you should have listened to me when I told you, they do this by design... Meaning, it doesn't matter if the council outright knows what they are doing or not, but all of this is by design to keep you all salves, in the form of taxes... Notice how nothing ever goes down, and how it always goes up, and how the govt keeps taking services your taxes are supposed to provide and makes you pay more for them and if you don't pay more they stop doing it... Like SBY, taxes pay for snow removal, now some how after some years, it is you remove it or get fined and the city still raises taxes even though they don't remove snow anymore... You have to be Vigilant and stay on top of this crap, it will never stop and your fight will never end unfortunately... The point is, understand this concept and start fight back and standing up, this is the on;y way to stop it or at best slow it down... There is goign to be a time, no one will afford anything becasue of taxes... This is the end goal again... The banks need your assets, physical assets to have value, the money and 1's and 0's don't mean shit to them, since they can print all they want... Stuff does not cost anymore today to produce than it did in the 1800's if anything it gets cheaper, but the govt doesn't want you fools to know that so you will gladly keep being good little slaves and when you step out of line, they bring in the its all for the kids talk to hit your heart strings all the while they don't do a god damn thing for the kids... but you keep on paying higher and higher taxes don't you...

I knew this was coming anyway... Soon as Berlin refused to not raises taxes and went to 30% land tax increase along with sewer and water rate increases, I KNEW OC WAS NEXT and then SBY soon after... MARK MY WORDS... Lets also keep in mind, the Berlin residence were against this tax hike and the council and mayor doesn't give a shit... They went ahead and bought a property they didn't need to, so they claim so they can dictate which comp[any can go on that land, and they still want to spend 100k plus to knock down buildings that harm no one currently, but takes money from the city or town, yet the residence said no, and what do you know, they are goign ahead with it anyway... SO there is a short fall in their funds, they still spend it to knock down buildings goign deepening the hole after every single resident said no... NOW becasue of it, they want to tax you 30% more on top of sewer and water hikes.... DO you think these people give a god damn about you or anyone when they do this to you???? Your taxes will be more than you can afford eventually... why do you clowns want to wait until it is that bad to give a shit????
