The Trump administration is plowing ahead with plans to promote the use of ethanol — a move likely to rally Midwest Republicans, but rile independent oil refiners and a group of bipartisan lawmakers, The Washington Post reported.
In a conference call Monday, an unnamed administration official said the Environmental Protection Agency’s directive to draft a rule allowing year-round sales of E15 — fuel that’s 5 percent ethanol by volume, is aimed “at increasing the supply of biofuels and providing consumer choice,” the Post reported.
Currently, sales of E15 are prohibited during the summer because of concerns about air pollution.
The American Petroleum Institute and others argue higher ethanol levels can cause harm to vehicle engines.

This doesn't smell right at all. Happened to visit the DC area recently and a Sheetz station had your regular 87/89/93 graded unleaded fuel. Then it had 88 ethanol 10 graded unleaded AND 94 ethanol 15 graded unleaded (for use of model year 2001 or new vehicles)
ReplyDeleteSooooooooooo many choices, sooooooooooooo much refinement, soooooooooo many different prices. Summer blend, winter blend, east coast, west coast.
Why so complicated?
Dumb move! Ethanol in motor fuel is corrosive and causes older and small engine to run lean eventually causing mechanical damage.

ReplyDeleteIf you calculate the difference in price between ethanol and non-ethanol gas you realise the government is paying you to put moonshine in your gas tank. Got to keep those corn prices high and auto mechanics busy though.
