House Committee Approves $73 Million for Chesapeake Bay Program

WASHINGTON, DC: On June 6, the House Committee on Appropriations passed the FY19 Interior and Environment Appropriations bill. This legislation provides $73 million in funding for the Chesapeake Bay Program – the same funding level enacted in FY18. Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01), co-chair of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Caucus and member of the Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement in support of this funding:

“The Chesapeake Bay is one of our nation’s greatest natural treasures. Maryland’s First Congressional District depends on a healthy Chesapeake Bay for both commercial fishing and recreational activities. The Chesapeake Bay’s health is improving, and continued funding for this program will keep current cleanup efforts on track for the next year. I applaud my colleagues on the Appropriations Committee for joining me in continuing to support the Chesapeake Bay Program at levels above the President’s proposed budget. When the Bay is healthy and flourishing, all Marylanders reap the benefits.”
