No Sound Zone For Rt. 13 In Salisbury

One has to wonder, what will happen when and if you have a concert at the new amphitheater and there's a fire, or a need for an ambulance and they get stuck at the light? Then there's the typical daily traffic with loud eastern shore trucks and of course the hip hop, BOOM, BOOM speakers. Yeah, this was a great spot to host concerts. Too funny!

  1. literally the worst intersection in my daily commute. I pass it 4 times a day!
    Why there??

  2. It even worse for the people who live in the Presidents Neighborhood Assoc were directly across from it just the other side of Route 13. Would have been better in some rural area, more places for parking and throngs of people. But if they don't fall into the river with no fence they can be hit crossing the road, no planning that just the bright orange bicycles. Couldn't have been a worse sight even if a 5 yr old planned it, oh that's right Fake Jake mentality. The city is really going to regret this for 3 days and the next 3 yrs to go.

  3. What if some nut in vehicle stops and fires an AR15 into the crowd and is miles away before the police respond.

  4. What about the guests that are staying at that hotel? They're going to be in for a real treat!

  5. Hip hop "boom boom" speakers. I saw some guy try to shout down a car full of young folks at Rehobeth over their boom boom. He even ran ip on the driver side shouting angrily. My thoughts; if we have to hear the loud roar of harleys than you can put up with some boom boom. 2, the aggressive way he ran up on the driver would have been a justifiable self defense claim had a shoooting occured.

  6. so here you are, listing to some bluegrass band or some wispy folk singer and THUMP-thump a THUMP comes some idiot blasting his obnoxious rap music from his car. Guaranteed to happen.

  7. Paver theater. What a joke. No stage access, road, train noise.

  8. Why is the fencing protecting the parking area and not the waterway?

  9. Been to several festivals there with bands with no problems hearing or parking.

They can rent a hotel room right there! Sorry for the people that will rent a hotel room not knowing there is some weird concert going to keep them up late at night.

  12. Lots of "what ifs" from you negative nellies. Anybody can say those doom and gloom "what if" about anything. Gotta give credit where credit is due. IMO there are more anybodies commenting on Salisbury News then there are persons with positive attitudes. Sad how hate speech has taken over our lives and respect is a thing of the past..

And we could have a massacre here just like what happened in Vegas if someone opens up with an assault rifle from that hotel.

  23. But, but, but the mare had to have an amphitheater. All the cool kid towns have one.

Call it the in-town skate park. Without restroom facilities, that tree will get over watered. With restroom facilities, other problems will appear. Just something else for the city to poorly maintain.

    1. Right. Everything thing they build is underbuilt and inefficient. A waste of money. Plenty of places around here near water where a ampitheatre could been built. I can even think of a event that its suitable for except a press conference

  28. Two minutes walk from there was headquarters live. It was a music venue designed to hold a couple hundred people. They had acts perform within 2 weeks of going to #1 on the pop charts. They closed because there was so little interest they couldn't make any money. The Salisbury taxpayer ended up footing the bill on that bad bet and now our stupid mayor has forced you to double down on a proven failure.

  29. What should have been and done and I've been saying this for years. bulldoze the civic center and turn it into a multitiered parking garage. Then build a new venue on the old mall lot. One that will could sell alcohol

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm sorry. I'm missing the point of the 'article'. What are you trying to convey. That it's a bad idea to have an amphitheater? That it's in the wrong place? That the traffic light should be changed?
    All of the above? SMH

  35. People who complain without offering a solution are WHINERS! Where would all of you Genius' have placed something like this?

JOE - If you were Mayor where would you have done this and why?

    ReplyDelete
  36. salisbury can't even hold a tiny little festival down there without the problems of gang activity, kids causing all kinds of problems. so this is just another place for them to go hang out and make trouble. good luck with this! I'll read on Joe's blog about all the fights, drug dealing, od's etc! cause salisbury pizza delivery will never admit to the crimes! at least the hospital is close by! lol!

    ReplyDelete
  37. "They closed because there was so little interest they couldn't make any money. "

Thats exactly the problem. Jake wants us to be the fun, hip city- but we simply do not have the demographics to pull it off. Nobody actually lives in Salisbury- they rent- and of those renters, how many are low income folks unlikely to go to a folk festival and how many other of those renters are students who will be gone for the summer and, in September, will be busy doing school things. Go to SU on a weekend- it is a ghost town- ALL the kids leave for either home or Ocean City. They are NOT going to hang around for Woody Guthrie type folk hippies.

The orange bikes- I have yet so see anyone OTHER than SU students riding those around, and those kids sure as hell arent taking care of them- they carelessly toss them around like tissue paper.

  38. Salisbury residents, whether homeowners or renters, just do not have the mentality for any art or music culture. Most listen to country music or rock, with the rap bunch annoying everyone.

They think a wooden duck is art. Just look around. Even when something new comes to town it is trashed by locals and soon departs. They just don't appreciate the finer things in life.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Salisbury remains a commercial hub anchored by a major medical center, university, and poultry business. It is not OC, St. Michaels, Easton, or Berlin. Trying to make it a center for country culture is worth a try.

    ReplyDelete
  40. 7:30 said "Trying to make it a center for country culture is worth a try."

That's fine if you want to throw your money away, but not mine or the taxpayers'.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Center for County Culture would be located somewhere in the Church Street area maybe?

  42. Where are these Festival people going to stay in Salisbury we have La Quinta on rt 13, 2 flea bag motels up rt 13 North, and a motel in Fruitland? He's expecting how many and for 3 days, not to mention already done bathrooms for these people, seating in such a small area, not to mention where are food vendors going to be. This was never thought out at all, what kind of committees and Mayors never think of details? But we have rent bicycles if you can find them because they keep disappearing and are ditched all over Salisbury.

  43. I don't get it . Does this band stand face the river or this little sandy litter box plot ? Where are all these folkies gonna view this event. Is there some kind of live drone feed with an APP to buy ? That amphitheater is no bigger than the old band stand in the park. This event is the biggest half baked nonsense. Why not just team up with the Poultry Festival ? Let them eat chicken . We have little else to offer.

There are a few more hotels. There is one by Denny's and one across the street also on Rt 50 next to the bypass. You also have the one on Naylor Mill across from Toys R Us. The problem is even with those hotels only 1 is within walking distance to the festival. Where are they going to park? Even if they shuttle them into Salisbury where is there a parking lot large enough to hold that many cars?

    ReplyDelete
  45. And that stage is facing the direction of the La Quinta Hotel. How would you like to be staying there trying to get some rest and all you hear is that loud a$$ ghetto music? That will be a lasting impression and you can forget about them coming back to da 'Bury.

  46. ANOTHER SHOOTING IN SALISBURY

It's 2:40 AM and Station 1 and Paramedic 1 is being dispatched for a shooting at 218 Hall Drive. Reported that SPD is on the scene and the scene is secure

Paramedic 1 advises Responding at 2:41 AM

Truck 2 advises Responding at 2:43 AM

Central tells Paramedic A-1 to Contact the office public service please(don't know what the secret is that they can't say it over the air.)

Another shooting in Salisbury. I guess Jake Day is going to have this one classified as an "Assault" again. Can't have the Foke Festivus Peoples find out that Salisbury is the most crime-ridden small town in the Country.

Paramedic 1 advises on location at 2:47 AM.

Truck 1 advises on location 121 A has command at 2:47 AM

Took them long enough to get there and Paramedic 1 had a 2-minute jump on the Truck with the sleepy head Firemen. What's up with that?

Hall Drive Command advises to Central under Control. Central advise PRMC that we have a 6-year-old trauma Priority 1 @ 2:56 AM. Sounds like he said 6 year old? WTH is up with a 6-year-old getting shot?

Paramedic A-1 advises Transporting and upgrading staffing to 4 at 3:00 AM. Thirteen minutes on scene with a shooting is extremely way too long. If they have 4 people in that ambulance there is no reason that one person could drive and the other 3 work on the patient. They aren't doing surgery so there isn't any reason this wasn't a Load and Go scenario. That is basic trauma life support. Stay and play isn't an option when you have a shooting, especially if it is a 6-year-old. The only treatment required is a backboard, oxygen, IV, and attach to the heart monitor. Why couldn't they do that en route to the hospital and allow that patient to have at least 5 more minutes for real doctors to save the patients life?

Hall Drive Command advises Truck 1 is en route to the hospital unavailable at 3:02 AM

Paramedic A-1 advises they are arriving at PRMC at 3:05 AM. That was a 5 minute ETA to the hospital.

Truck 1 advises they are arriving at PRMC at 3:05 AM. That was a 3 minute ETA to the hospital.

Paramedic 1 gets to the hospital in 5 minutes and Truck 1 gets there in 3 minutes?? WTH is up with that?? Truck 1 is supposed to drive to the hospital without lights and siren and follow all rules of the road. Paramedic 1 is required to respond to the hospital with lights and siren because it is a priority 1 patient and it takes them 5 minutes and Truck 1 gets to the hospital in 3 minutes and they should have been driving the speed limit?? Those are the facts, ladies and gentleman. I am working at another station and wide awake and documenting this call. Something is wrong with this picture!!

This is why Salisbury needs another Fire Chief that has real EMS experience. Maybe it's time to hire outside the department again!
