ReplyDeleteI have read it on here before, better stay-a-way from Ocean City. This town is fraught with corruption, criminal activity, gangs, and high taxes/fees.

Let's face it, the town has a bad reputation, and getting worse every day.

ReplyDeleteWhy go to OC when there are much nicer ocean towns nearby -- Bethany, Fenwick, Rehoboth, Lewes?
ReplyDeleteCvs and wawa continually allow non patrons on the premises and next to never call OCPD to have people dispersed - there was a meeting some time ago with the local businesses and this was addressed. OCPD said that because it is private property they can’t do a thing until a problem arises (like a fight spilling out onto coastal highway) - even if they owners would get involved and have the store managers call the police (which would be a good idea as paying patrons will not go to either establishment for fear of a problem or just avoid the hassle altogether) the damage is done. It really comes down to corporate management

DeleteCvs has called the police numerous times but they can't do anything just because they park there. They have had a bunch towed but that didn't deter them. They use to stand out there and warn them that they would be towed but they would get beer bottles thrown at them or people would gang up on them and fight so for safety of employees they do not send anyone out there anymore what else can they do.

ReplyDeleteOcean City Responds After Video of Criminal Activity During Cruisin' Weekend

OCEAN CITY, Md.- Ocean City's mayor and police department are speaking out after video showed a large fight and a truck driving wildly up the Ocean City Boardwalk over the weekend.
Mayor Rick Meehan says one person was arrested and another arrest was pending on Monday morning. He called the videos unfortunate, and said the city won't tolerate criminal activity.
"If the laws are broken, we are going to press charges," he tells WBOC. "We are going to make arrests and if that deters some people from coming to Ocean City, so be it."
Lindsay Richard, a public affairs specialist with the Ocean City Police Department, says although the videotaped incidents garnered a lot of attention, criminal activity was statistically low throughout the weekend. She says the department did all they could to combat the incidents as they occurred.
"We had literally every officer working this weekend in addition to other allied agencies that came into assist us," she explains. "So the things that did occur we were able to address very quickly."
Meehan said the city had seen improvements to Cruisin OC and believed the new special events zone helped as well. But as some violence and illegal activity still occurred, Meehan says the next steps are working with business owners and Cruisin participants themselves to ensure more compliance.
"This is our community," he says. "We know we want to keep it safe and we are going to do what we can to make sure that happens."
