A Viewer Writes: INDEPENDENCE CARDS ( I rather think they are DEPENDENCE CARDS)

Good morning Joe.

My wife came home last night and was livid. She was in a store near our home that sells beer and wine. She was in there to get a bottle of wine to take home. There was a lady in front of her buying beer....with her "Independence Card". Now you need to know
that my wife has been a registered Democrat all her voting life. But she is not a liberal moonbat. She pays attention to local and national news and votes her conscience. She said "Are people supposed to be buying beer with this card?" No they are not.

Your liberally levied tax dollars at work.

  1. Beer is NOT one of the things that can be purchased with the card.
What else was the person buying?
If the vendor was accepting the payment by card, that's a problem.

  2. The only thing this makes one independent from is WORK.

  3. Please post the business's name on here...Ray...

  4. No worse than BJ Seafood. Buying bushel of crabs, shrimp ETC.
I am not sure if BJ's would be in business if it wasn't for the
    Independence Card.

  5. That person must have "tca" bc you can not by beer with Foodstamps. However, maybe this person works and at the end of the day, it's not your wife's business!

  7. Step up, what was the business name?

  8. I hope you reported or are going to report the store for accepting the card for an alcohol purchase.

  9. Why was she "livid"? Typical democrat living under a rock refusing to believe the truth until it's in front of their face. Yes welfare fraud is epidemic. Just like illegal alien crime is epidemic. Now instead of telling the well informed what they are already aware of how about reporting this fraud to the proper authorities? And BTW many times they are being charged inflated prices on alcohol and other items they aren't supposed to be buying. They also know what stores will allow them to use the card for alcohol.

  10. Actually, it is worse than buying crabs and shellfish. Beer isn't considered a source of nutrition. The outrage with the seafood purchases is a whole different matter.

  11. Everyone should really research what welfare $ and medical assistance $ are being spent on in today's "we cannot hurt anyone's feelings environment." Also medical assistance $ are buying much more than medical services through the state systems. The real problem is things are out of control, and it is hurting the people who really do need assistance. (Sip coffee) "but, that is none of my business."

  12. Your wife was mistaken, it is not possible to purchase beer on those cards.

  13. The cashier can key the price as "grocery/food" and accept the EBT card as payment.

  14. Several years ago there was a big public kerfuffle about people buying lottery tickets with their cards. Turned out it was perfectly legal and nothing could be done about it.

  16. Well first of all, the store employees probably don't pay any attention to what kind of card they are using because if the customer puts it in the card scanner they may not get a good look at it. Also, I'm sure the stores don't train the check-out people very well to know what is and isn't allowed on these cards. Maybe they should have 1 dedicated check out line for Independence cards and that 1 person could concentrate more on what is purchased.

Because of the price of seafood it is a luxury. They need to stop these seafood places from being allowed to purchase seafood with an EBT card and then paying cash to have them steamed.

    1. Do you have any idea how many people are on EBT in Salisbury? If you are not you are in the minority. Local seafood places would go out of business and Watermen would soon follow. So Everytime you hear a liberal crying about how Capitalism doesn't work, inform them that America has not been practicing Capitalism for over 100 years.

  19. Independence Cards are not Food Stamps - the name change indicates the recipient can be independent in purchases as to not be restricted to only food. Your wife needs to understand these things so she can make better informed decisions & reevaluate her party choice.

  20. Keep voting them in...it will never change.
As for me, I think maybe she is one of those moonbats, unless she said or did anything about it.

  21. Please, expose the store.....oh, she's liberal.

  22. Let me explain:

The Dependence Card can have 2 separate accounts on it. One account is FOOD STAMP (SNAP). SNAP can only be used to purchase qualifying items (food) tax free. The second account is WELFARE. The welfare account is CASH and can be used to buy anything at all, including visiting an ATM and withdrawing CASH.

    1. SNAP
    2. Welfare

    got it?

The government decided a long time ago that it was more profitable for the banks if they stopped printing WELFARE checks. Now they just load the debit card each month remotely. The government also decided to no longer print Food Stamps. They simply load that gift onto he cards remotely as well.

  23. I saw this all the time when I worked for consumer products company - 30 years. Most of these knuckleheads are foreigners, who will do anything to make a buck off of taxpayer's dime. Reported to MD Comptroller numerous times - "not a priority". Waste of time, they don't give a damn.

  24. When I was a cashier at a certain local food store, that later went out of business, we were instructed to override the beer and wine purchase with a food code so they could get what they want on the SNAP card.
When it was time for them to get tobacco products, the manager took care that for them.
SNAP, is a big money maker for local stores.

  26. 11:33am, It is your business if you pay taxes. We have every right to know what these people are buying with those cards.

    ReplyDelete
  27. @10:29am, Even if that person works, that card is NOT to be used to buy alcohol. So it is her business and our business also. Those of us who pay taxes. Got it? Don't forget it.

  28. On the seafood side of it....ever notice how it works?... They buy the crabs, the store steams them for free....easy peasy...didn't sell or buy cooked food...

  29. Why don't you people stop being jealous of poorer people than you who you think are getting over and mind your own business? I am sick of seeing the fake outrage.
