Anthem will not be shown before Chiefs-Redskins game, per report

Fans tuning in to Monday Night Football this week won't be seeing the pregame national anthem, according to a report out Sunday.

The national anthem will not be aired on television before Monday night's Game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Redskins, per a report out Sunday from The Sporting News.

TSN reports ESPN has chosen not to air the anthem during their Monday Night Football broadcast, quoting spokesman Mac Nwulu as saying, "ESPN MNF will not carry the anthem live."

The national anthem typically is aired only before certain games as well as the Super Bowl, but broadcasters showed the anthem last week due to the amount of protests and unity displays in response to criticism of NFL players by President Donald Trump. Broadcasters are moving away from showing the anthem this week, as in addition to ESPN not airing the anthem during Monday Night Football, FOX did not air the anthem before their Sunday regional games but did show it before the Dolphins-Saints game in London.

The Chiefs and Redskins kick off at 8:30 p.m. ET Monday night on ESPN.

  6. Soros and the One Worlders trying to get Americans to lose their patriotism. No more national anthem being showed soon they will stop even singing the National Anthem at sporting events. Just like they took the Pledge of Allegiance out of schools.

  7. EVERYONE on that money train is doing EVERYTHING they can to make it look like these jocks are all heroes and patriots.
    Not showing them kneeling?
We will be told through other venues and they will look like they are trying to manipulate perception.
Plus, these spoiled jocks just can't shut their oppressed mouths up (it may be the silver spoon getting in the way, or maybe it's ghetto-normal to run their mouth no matter what).

  8. Cowards. They think this fixes it?

  9. The networks are responsible for all this, If people took their NFL boycott and applied it to the Networks you would see change in a lot of area's.

  11. I say too little too late! NO NFL coming on this TV this season.

  12. I think you guys that posted before me are missing the point of not showing it. It minimizes the effect and should reduce the practice. Like throwing a tantrum and nobody cares.

  13. Hey ESPN, we will find out who kneels during the anthem. Play your games, but you will go down with the NFL. Or is it you taking the NFL down with you? Either way you both suck liberal backsides!!

  14. If the Anthem plays to no viewers, who cares if they take a knee.

  15. Wrong thing to do.
Fix the problem by making these players stand and respect the flag.

  16. All of the commenters here just showed the feigned outrage. Anthem was never shown on TV before regular season games until the protests started. Have an issue with the protest, fine. But don’t be disingenuous.

  17. its the point. The NFL needs to tell players to stop the crap not hide the national anthem to allow the players to still be part of the solution. The NFL just does not get it and should be punished accordingly.

  18. No televised anthem? One more reason not to watch.

  21. So now the players just offend the live fans...the season ticket owners, and not the TV fans? At least their antics will be seen by far fewer people. Of course their antics are ALREADY being seen by far fewer fans, as we have quit viewing the games in protest of their antics. Like the Daily Times, I don't miss the NFL and their games. I can find much better things to do than watch pampered NFL players protest on my game viewing time. Too little, too late NFL. Think cutting off the anthem from the TV audience will appease us? Think again! NFL stands for NATIONAL football league. The anthem is part of the game (but the players "protests" are not). The fans are not as stupid as you treat us.... at least some of us aren't.
