DeleteNot to be taken out of context but growing up around here and actually enjoying ocean city summers back in the 70's thus type of pack chaos seeking mentality would have never flushed
ReplyDeleteI took out of town guests to OC yesterday for a meal and stroll on the boardwalk. Our meal at the Shark in West OC was phenomenal! The boardwalk was embarrassing. Not the usual mix of families young and old....rather a clear presence of people there for mayhem. The police presence was high and the officers courteous, however, we didn't linger long before starting our 90 minute drive home. Attention OC: clean up this mess of thugs and disrupters. I can guarantee you that people like my friends and I, who would have gladly stayed longer and eaten a nice dinner and done more shopping stopped in Berlin instead. You are hurting your local businesses, your economy, and your reputation.

Seriously, what would you want the city to do? Give me even one suggestion.
"Usual mix"? Where have you been for the last 15 years? The Boardwalk is thug alley in the summer and has been for quite some time.

I don't know how many times I've commented on the problems with and in Ocean City MD. You want solutions. All you have to do is look to Ocean City NJ. I'd spend my vacation dollars there long before I'd spend them in OC MD.

BUT - Only with a group of three or four families and ALL their kids, renting a house for about $4000+ a week; and preparing yourself to tell the kids there's no boardwalk or rides.
To me, or my kids (or wife!), not much of a vacation. We'll take Ocean City.

ReplyDeleteMy kids always pick Hatteras Island (OBX) over OC. They choose the beautiful uncrowded beaches over a dirty Boardwalk. Just stayed a few weeks ago Oceanfront in Rodanthe, ocean right off our deck, practically to ourselves. Not even close to $4000 dollars.
The recent post about heading up to jersey beaches during summer, you've got a point, they definitely wouldn't put up with any of this kind of nonsense. Have a strong feeling it would take care of itself

ReplyDeleteI love Rodanthe! Stayed there several times. The further South you go on the island the better it gets. Taking the free ferry over to Ocracoke is amazing too.
Too many assumptions. Sure, a carload of hoodies at 5AM cruising the roads is suspicious but that does not mean that they are simply trying to "be cool". I ride the bus early morning and I see (but hear) some of these people. I strike up a conversation and subsequently realize that some of of them are actually OC employees.

No thugs in the beach towns down here in Northern Florida. O.C. created this mess by over commercializing the board walk. We left eastern shore because the thug culture is taking over and the PC governmebt refuses to call a spade a spade.

DeleteIt is college week at the beach. That's why they have extra cops to help patrol. Maybe you should check the Ocean Ocean city schedule of events before you visit. Ocean city is a very family friendly place. I take my family to the board walk all the time!

People changing in the street.. public drunkenness, pants down as to see their underwear .. we were diagusted after about 45 min and left-we used to spend all night ... but not anymore its like walking in a crime zone.,,
Remember when the big issue was a male running up to the boards from the beach without a shirt, to grab a snack or pit stop. The police would be all over it. Now trash run loose everywhere. I say trash because if you are in public using the f work as stated above, you are trash.

As opposed to your high level of intelligence? I just love people like you that are so quick of shout out insults and such to others and try everything you can to try and belittle people all the while offering nothing of substance or even a coherent thought, much less one of your own.
