A Viewer Writes: City Job

This exact job was advertised in January this year, and now again in July. Makes you wonder what is going on in city government.

  1. It's the pay, maybe. The average pay for an accountant (not bookkeeper) is $75,000 plus benefits.

  2. They post the city and county jobs because it is required , the jobs have already been taken because of friends and family will get special treatment .
The university is famous for this crap also.

  3. Is there a revolving door on staff? Was someone hired in January and then leave?

  4. Is this just another "obligatory" posting where they already know who's buddy is getting the job?

  5. Advertising jobs that employers already know who they want is misleading and gives people false hope. They should stop doing that and stop wasting people's time.

  6. 9:39...of course it is. I worked in corporate America for 42 years and this is the modus operandi. There is an asset referred to as corporate knowledge so at certain levels it pays to promote from within without the learning curve. It is cheaper to back fill with outside junior candidates.

  7. 9:57 AM I totally agree.

  8. When did "FULLTIME" drop to 35 hours a week? 40 "was" the norm??

    Wow!

  9. 10:27 AM Government jobs have always been 35 hours a week

  10. 10:34 AM Interesting comment. And why is that. It's not like it is cheaper to live here. Its not like food costs less. Ignorant greedy employer mentality maybe?

    1. Exactly the only item I save on living here vs across the bridge is insurance. My homeowners and auto policy's are half what they were in the Baltimore suburbs. Thankfully I work for an employer who pays the same here as they do in Baltimore.

  11. Please follow up on this to tell us who (i.e which one of Jake's drinking buddies) gets the job!!!

  12. 11:48 AM Please don't apply for the job. The rate is 26.37 based on 35 hrs a week. Ability to do math is of importance in the accounting field.

  13. Last I checked, my government pays me for 40 hours a week - don't know about "other" governments.

Also $48K broken down without TAXES:

    - $4000 a month
    - $1,846.15 every 2 weeks
    - $923.07 a week

If one takes approx. 30% in taxes OUT of $48K you get $33,600 or

    - $2800 a month
    - 1,292.30 every 2 weeks
    - $646.15 a week

No thanks - that's entry level grades for the Fed Gov't in Washington DC.

  14. 1:50 PM Did you have a point?
Maybe you should actually READ THE AD, instead of typing useless dribble.

  15. 11:21 - perhaps 35 hr/week is usual in da bury, but remember when the honorable(?) William Donald Shafer upped state employees from 37.5/week to 40/week? No increase in pay. In fact what followed was furloughs and hiring freezes.

  16. The City has a 35 hour work week for the GOB positions.

  17. 1:17 That was a ball park based on a 40 hour week(salary /2 no calculator) but in any event, I don't get off the sofa for under $150/hr.

  18. Birds tell me most of these jobs are filled or someone in mind before advertised. It's a rigged game, peeps.
