Speaker Mike Busch undergoes liver transplant

Michael E. Busch, the longest serving speaker of the House of Delegates in Maryland history, underwent a liver transplant Thursday to resolve ongoing health problems he has attributed to skin cancer medication.

In a brief interview with The Capital on Wednesday, the Annapolis Democrat said his health had taken a turn for the worse in recent weeks.

Busch's physicians at the University of Maryland Medical Center diagnosed him with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, a form of liver disease, and determined in May that it was progressing.

  1. Time for Mr. Busch to call it a day and enjoy the rest of his life. Now its time someone else steps up to the plate!!

  2. Another "career" politician.
The position was NEVER intended to be a lifelong pursuit, but the money is too good.
    How good is it?
As your life ebbs and your body falls apart, you STILL want to "serve".
    Keep cheering.

  4. Bet Mr. Busch isn't having this done under Obamacare, Medicare or Medicaid. He's too old for this type of surgery and should've had an end-of-life discussion with his physician before doing this massively expensive surgery. They don't do this past a certain age on government subsidized healthcare now because you're of no use to Big Brother.

  5. I have no sympathy for him. He is one of the perpetrators of the biggest scams on the good people of Maryland.

  6. Cummings, Federal Legislator, now Busch, State Legislator. Is this their punishment for screwing over MD tax payers?

No, but he used this opportunity to pimp for Obama because of how he said he was fortunate to have good insurance.

Everyone can have good insurance. Just find a job that has good benefits.

  8. He is a dick and the reason this State is in the bad shape that it is in, but I don't wish no ill will on anyone.

But like they say, what goes around comes around.

  9. I did notice that he was losing a lot of weight during the general assembly.

I don't have a job with benefits but I had great insurance before obamacare. I was able to keep mine because it became obamacare compliant but that also increased the premiums from less then 200/month to over 600/month. I am healthy have no health problems at all and only used the insurance like once a year.

  11. I too do not wish ill on this person. But, it is a shame that this is what it takes to drain Maryland's swamp and get rid of these liberals who are so unwilling to achieve anything for the common good.

If he has a liver transplant his days are numbered just like Gregg Allman who died last week.
