McDonald's Stock Hits High on Plan to Replace Cashiers With Kiosks

McDonald's Corp. stock price hit an all-time high as Wall Street reportedly cheered the replacement of cashiers with kiosks.

Cowen says McDonald's will upgrade 2,500 restaurants to its "Experience of the Future" technology by year-end, which includes digital ordering kiosks, CNBC reported.

The firm also raised its rating on McDonald's to outperform from market perform and price target for the shares to $180 from $142.

McDonald's shares rallied 26 percent this year through Monday compared to the S&P 500's 10 percent return. Near midday McDonald’s shares were at $154 after earlier hitting $ 155.28.

Andrew Charles from Cowen cited plans for the restaurant chain to roll out mobile ordering across 14,000 U.S. locations by the end of 2017, CNBC explained.

  1. No thank you, I have no desire to use a kiosk that has been touched by every nose picking,,, butt scratching flu and cold carrying person in town.

    The whole concept is disgusting.

  6. I live 7 months per year in Vero Beach, Florida and our local McDonalds has kiosks. Believe me, it's a hell of a lot easier than dealing with stupid clerks who can barely speak English and can't get the order right and can't count change. You punch in your order, swipe your credit card and the order is delivered to your table...correctly!

I would be happy to never see a human taking orders at Mickey D's again.

  8. I witness all the time people in the public men's restrooms in OC who go from drenching their hands with piss to leaving the restroom with unwashed hands. At least kiosks have a chance of being used by people who wash their hands.

Actually, voice input is an option with kiosks and they are more efficient. I struggle at least weekly with McDonald cashiers at the payment window when I use Apple Pay. Management obviously doesn't teach them how to use it. I think I would find myself not repeating as much with a kiosk instead of a stupid kid.

  9. The wave of the future will be proximity based ordering from your own phone via an app or bluetooth. When you pull into parking lot you get connected and order indicating drive thru, dine in or togo. As for dirty touch screen: order then go wash your hands before eating because you already touched the door handle and several other "dirty" items.

  16. Wawa had these kiosks way before there was talk of $15/hr. This has more to do with speed, accuracy and convenience than $15/hr. Minimum wage isn't even @ $10/hr yet. You sound like a bunch of parrots left in a room with Fox news playing 24/7.
