Hartley Hall Horror Update Pt. 2

Last evening, editor Joe Albero received word from Jim Mathias about the situation at Hartley Hall reported on Monday morning here on Salisbury News.

His message goes as follows:
Good evening.
As a result of your post, Monday May 15, 2017, and my concern for the public's safety, I contacted the Acting Secretary of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. This acton caused the Office of Health Care Quality to survey Hartley Hall on site today, May 16, 2017. As a result, the Office of Health Care Quality is conducting an investigation as empowered by their federal authority. The final report will likely be issued in approximately two weeks, and will be a public document. I will keep you advised.
We will keep you all abreast of additional actions and information as they come available.

  2. Well, to me that sounds like news worth telling, but I won't hold my breath until I see the report, and if they actually put action behind it...

  3. Glad to see something is being done with this situation. It's about time. There needs to be action taken against Hartley Hall for not doing their due diligence insuring patients and staff safety. It's a dereliction of Crowley's duty to all concerned. He should be fired (once again) and a new administrator who knows what they're doing needs to take over.

  4. Noticed the media in Salisbury aka WMDT, WBOC, Daily Times, doesn't seem to think this situation isn't dire enough to report. Makes you wonder what else they're not reporting that we need to know about doesn't it?

  5. Does the nursing programs at SU and WorWic have students working in places like Hartley for training? Why aren't they demanding an inquest be done in this situation because it would put their students in danger as well as everyone else working there?

  9. State arrived yesterday, They left late in the evening. I overheard on staff say " the state won't leave until they see Hartley has a staff member at his door. Even housekeeping and dietary can sit with him," . I walked down that hallway, curious like I am, And nobody was around, several little old ladies in the room beside him. I looked at one of those ladies laying there helpless. My heart sank. They are only going to tell you what you want to hear. But seeing for myself, there's not much in change.

  10. Has the man who committed the crime been removed from the property?

    1. They can't remove him without him being reassigned to another nursing home or his family withdraws him.

  11. They 've had men in there for a long,
    long time now.

  12. They've had men as residents there as far back as the sixties. Yes. It was founded by a women's organization but has always welcomed men as residents. People are clearly misinterpreting what they read on the website. Even the photos on the top of the home page include men.

  13. All the nursing homes in the area need to be investigated. Manokin Manor staff abuse patients. One night when they thought no one was around, a relative heard screaming down the hall and saw two nurse aides throwing ice water in the face of a patient with no legs in a wheel chair by the nurse station. It was reported but nothing was done.

  14. Glad to see Mathias has done one thing right. Lets not forget what his overall voting record is in the Maryland Legislature. He's still a tried and true Democrat.

  15. Mr Matthias, would you please stop by Berlin Nursing and Rehab too? Please ask the patients in rehab how long it's been since their sheets were changed. While you are there, look at the menus! Nothing healthy or appropriate was served there during the 2 weeks that a family member of mine was there. It was so bad that we had food delivered so she could eat.

  16. EVERY nursing home has abused patients. I have worked in them in years past and have seen it first hand, even here on the shore. I would be called racist if I mentioned the worst offenders. And I have even witnessed family members abusing their 'loved ones'. Usually in the form of financial matters. Getting power of attorney over their mother for example and selling everything she had and keeping the monies.

There are indeed horror stories behind the facade.

  17. 8:04 if the family did not sell everything she owned, the nursing home would have it instead of them. Seen it happen.

  18. everyone please look into the background of the medical director at hartley hall...(BARAL) .he has sexually abused as well and it is public record in the maryland board of medicine. how horrible does one facility have to be......

    1. They are all horrible. I've worked in a few. I wouldn't let them take care of my cat, and certainly not my family.

  19. 11:14 - Dr.Baral was acquitted of these charges. They were bogus and were found to be bogus. Why bring him into this? He's a very honorable man and a great doctor!!!!!

  20. What's really sick is how some people toot the horn and congratulate a 'career elected official' (AKA tax leech) for making some phone calls for a matter that could have and should have been handled by the facility's Administrator. Is this the type of work we pay that clown for? And all he can do is cite federal authority in his message.. Gee... does anyone actually think that States actually legally exist anymore much less have any sovereignty? This whole situation just serves to show what sheep people generally are. Thank you oh great leader Mathias, use 'federal authority' and save us from the fat pervert that we are helpless to deal with ourselves ..By the way.. your recent mailing was hilarious- but the sheeple will like it. Where did all the good men go?

  21. Mr. Mathias, can someone somewhere please help staff. We are so short staffed especially since they've taken nurse's off the floor and have them sit one on one for this patient. The few nurses we have, are becoming burned out from being drafted to work extra hours and with a greater patient load. Sometimes, especially at night there's only one LPN for the entire building! But theyleave the names on the sschedule to fake the state if state wanted to review. Also, they are changing the dates of when we signed the in device to the 17th of May. It's so much illegal stuff going on since our Chief Nursing Officer has been out. Just please investigate. I don't want to look for a new job. Just want to work in a safe place and not taken advantage of. Did I mention the nurse'sthey hhave supervising this man, makes double time! 50-60 dollars an hour while other patients are in need of care. Thank you.

    1. First of all when the state comes they dont look at the schedule they look at the assignment sheets. So how are they faking them out??? Second of all the ratio is based on the nures and aides in the building not just the nurse pt ratio. And maybe you dont know just how much stuff has been covered up sinve the new DON has been there. You dont know the half of it. NOT to mention nurses getting paid 31.00 an hour and dont answer call bells. Please!!!!

    2. The DON changes jobs every 2 years. Check the track record

    3. I'm just wondering is it legal to back date documents? Guess I'll have to contact the state to get an answer to that question.

    1. She's had a long track record with men at work. Same deal happened with an inmate when she worked at ECI🤔. Able-bodied nurse who is capable of transferring patients bs a nursing home patient who was deemed unable to care for himself. Her story was a cover-up for being caught.

  23. WOW- What a track record!!! Look her up on MD Judiciary. Unbelievable that she was ever a nursing director.

  24. All of it was covered up by the warden and an MSP officer that she has a child by

  25. Her father that poses as a pastor got stripped of his pastoral rights when he continued to commit adultery. They all play victims. Mental evaluations should be done by all parties
