Carozza, Mathias, Otto report to Ocean City

Ocean City and Worcester County’s legislative representatives updated local business leaders on the events of the past session of the Maryland General Assembly during last week’s Economic Development Committee meeting.

Sen. Jim Mathias (D-38), Del. Mary Beth Carozza (R-38C) and Del. Charles Otto (R-38A) all sang praises of the last legislative session’s successes and how they help maintain a strong tourism economy for Worcester.

“We have $12 million tourism budget overall,” Mathias said. “I remember when Fish [Roland Powell] was mayor, and he imagined a comprehensive resort with a convention center. First, we thought we just needed mother nature to shine sun on you, but to be global, we needed to expand.”

Mathias and Carozza both pointed to the third planned expansion of the performing arts center, with $500,000 in funding, as an example of the state’s commitment to Ocean City.

  1. And you need to keep expanding, until the ten mile sandbar sinks.

  2. It can't sink because the earth is flat.

  4. If you mean the Phillips Buffet, let's just say it costs $38/person. To that, you add 9% adult beverage tax and 7% food tax. Finally, 15-20% tip.

  5. Don't forget to stop by the Caroline St. comfort station, Jim and Mary Beth. With a $12 million tourist budget, you have a mayor who refuses to stop the continuous harassment of women and children by the "homeless" who have taken over city property. The police are forbidden to roust them. We can't have buskers, we can't smoke on the boards or sleep on the beach, police are not allowed on the boards after 10 pm so as not to disturb the thugs, but the city has given these bums some very valuable city property from which they are free to (again) harass women and children.

  6. What's with the town of OC giving $200k of tax payers money to AGH? Shouldn't AGH be able to make it on their own without bailout money? Tax dollars should be used like this

  7. 640pm, ran into that problem ALSO yesterday (Sat) on the walk down to the car show. The homeless man asked me in mid stream if I had a buck. Told him I was "busy" and to move out of the bathroom.

City Hall needs to address this - instead of trying to figure out how to spend spend spend.
