A Viewer Writes: Gander Mountain Is A Scam

Just went to Gander Mountain. They're advertising "Up To 30% Off The Whole Store" in preparation for closing after their bankruptcy.
I saw signs on displays for 10, 15 and 20%, but didn't find anything marked down by 30%.

And if anyone's interested in firearms or ammunition, forget getting any part of that "storewide" discount, 'cause there isn't any.

  1. Another one of those phony 'liquidation' sales.

I've seen stores set up and run for a short time, then they do the 'Going out of Business' thing for the next 6-8 months, which was their plan all along.

    Let the buyer beware.

  3. maybe they meant 30% of stock is marked down 10% ?

  4. Liquidation is being handled by an outside company, they tend to mark the prices up then advertise "Huge" discounts, they get a cut of what is sold so it is in their best interest to sell it for as high of a price as possible and make you feel like you got one over on Gander.

It is a shame that campers world is closing this store, they are keeping some open and changing them over.

All this BS talk about how well Salisbury is doing from the elites, this closure just is one more nail in the coffin, if the economy was doing so well in the area campers world would have converted this store.

  6. Gander has always been a scam locally. Corey is an idiot. No clue how to manage or lead.

  7. Big sale they have lowered prices on firearms to MSRP

  8. All the 30% things are odds n ends. Anything anyone could really want isnt a deal. They tried to fit to much into a store instead of catering to the local market. No one is paying 400$ for an inshore rod when there isnt that good of inshore fishing here, one example of many.

  9. What happens to the firearm warranties sold by gander?

    1. The warranty is normally thru the manufacturer. If it's a gander warranty you will lose it if bankruptcy goes thru.

  10. Maybe you people shouldn't be so damn stupid!!! Exactly what 9:52 said, they mark items up and say they are on sale, so in essence you pay the same price as if it wasn't on sale or even at best you get a 5 or 10 percent discount... Circuit City did this with their sales, and i'm sure they did the same when closing down stores too... Once again, dirt has more brains than most of you people here ids SBY... and you just keep on proving that...

You just have to use your brain and pay attention but that is to much to ask, but I bet if it was on Facebook or you saw it on the news, you would know it to the core and with your eyes closed...

  11. You will never find firearms discounted. So why are you stupid enough to believe they would be. With that mentality I would not want you to be in possession of a firearm.

  12. Most likely to become a campers world RV outlet. Industry is booming, thousands of campsites around here, and the local dealer is almost out of business.

  13. Actually, there was a sign that said that firearms and ammunition would not be discounted at this particular store, and that other locations might.

The signs are clearly displayed at the registers "ALL SALES FINAL" The only warranties are manufacturer's warranties.

  19. I shopped Gander Mountain before they were bankrupt. The prices on the things that I bought and shopped for before the bankruptcy, are not marked up any higher before discounting after the bankruptcy. The liquidation is legit, and the discounts are honest. Nobody's making anyone shop there. It's your choice. But you better shop soon. The shelves are clearing out fast!

  20. Saw a guy shoplifting 22's and told the clerk, he said he didn't care, he was losing his job, so why bother the guy.

  21. Why in the hell would they discount guns I mean come on

  22. Why do you think they are going Broke?
K-mart and sears are next, and maybe macy's.. Check their prices. Outrageous. guess they are preparing for that closing sale by having all these high prices now.

  23. To clarify. An investor bought Gander's name and locations but chose not to buy the inventory.

The inventory is being sold by a liquidation specialist company for whatever they can get; they bought the inventory and will make money on the difference between what they paid for it and what it sells for. Process will happen quickly.

The guy who bought the Gander name, etc. has a chain of stores catering to campers and RV users. Many Gander locations will re-open as a mix of the two concepts.

Don't know what will happen to Salisbury Gander store after the liquidation.
