Transgender boy Mack Beggs wins Texas state girls' wrestling title

CYPRESS, Texas -- A 17-year-old transgender boy completed an undefeated season Saturday by winning a controversial Texas state girls' wrestling title in an event clouded by criticism from those who believe the testosterone he's taking as he transitions from female to male created an unfair advantage.

The family of Mack Beggs has said he would rather be wrestling boys, but state policy calls for students to wrestle against the gender listed on their birth certificates. So Beggs, a junior from Euless Trinity, beat Chelsea Sanchez 12-2 in the 110-pound weight class to improve to 56-0 and earn the championship.

Beggs fell to his knees for a moment after the win as a mixture of cheers and boos rained down on him. He then hugged his coach and left the mat.

He had a bit of fun with his fellow wrestlers at the medal ceremony when he counted down from three and all six of the top finishers posed by doing a dab on the medal stand.

  1. Testosterone levels are tested in combat sports for a good reason. It would've been suspended from competing and have had it's win forfeited.

  2. Sounds like a clear case of doping an athlete. She should be disqualified. SHE. Got that? It means NOT a guy.

  3. OK... I'm really confused.
This is a girl who believes he's a guy that take drugs to make sure he's a guy and not a girls while competing with girls.
I'm 70 years old. I'm too old for this stuff.
But if all that is true, then Lord I'm ready to go, because I've now seen it all!

  4. Something very wrong here. Until they change the rules, I would disqualify all school sports until fair and equitable rules are in place so this never happens again. Rules should be simple, God made, not man made!!!!

  5. Need to wait until transitions is complete before competing. Not a fair match. Should be disqualified.

  23. Eliminate gender in sports. All genders tryout for same team then the team is what it is!! Problem solved! (Sarcasm here!!)

  24. Unfortunately she didn't do anything against the rules that were in place. She didn't want to wrestle girls but Texas athletic officials made her bc the rules state they must wrestle the gender that is on their birth certificate. Maybe the rules need to change.

    1. Except pump her body full of testosterone. Smh and the govt supports this. Not fair to the girls or boys. Thats pure mental health issues.

    2. 600..She has super human strength compared to a girl. Approximately 20x the normal testosterone levels of a girl. 4x more then a boy. Don't do a combat sport think about others and not yourself could have advoided this. Instead two girls lost college scholarships and several got injured.

  25. This is where I'm confused... The poster at 6:00 calls her "she", the story calls him "he".
If Hillary had been elected, I think we'd have the beginnings of mandatory Transgender Sports teams in schools!
